Username: captain dude
Name: Barnaby “Ziggy” Zenith
Pronouns: he/him
Dream Job: Barnaby’s hero is his uncle
Daika. Daika is about thirteen-and-a-half years older than him and practically walks on water to the kit. Ever since Daika met his career goal of becoming a research geneticist, he started taking his nephew Barnaby with him to the lab sometimes and showing him all the technology and explaining all the processes they use to come up with new discoveries. He doesn’t always understand everything, but he absolutely thinks the world of his uncle and wants to be talented like him someday. Nowadays, he volunteers helping Daika out by writing things down, filing papers, watering plants (and is handsomely rewarded with gelato and pastries afterwards).
While Barnaby likes science and definitely has a knack for it, he doesn’t quite think that’s his calling (though he’s too young to quite know for sure). He really loves explaining things to others and wants to be a museum docent someday. He enjoys explaining what his uncle has taught him to his friends and has a bit of a reputation as a know-it-all. He once begged Daika to give his class a tour of the lab so he could “help” his uncle explain the different mechanisms used in sequencing the Kalon genome as well as genetically modifying plants to help end hunger. (His uncle could hardly get a word in edgewise with how chatty the kit was!) Daika had set up some educational projects for them all, like seeing their own cells under a microscope and dying white flowers different colors, but it ended up being Barnaby explaining all the projects to them. His friends were amazed by getting to see their own cells under a microscope (a classic first science project but inspiring nonetheless)! It was the proudest day of his life, he claims! He has a bit of a stutter, which makes explaining things to others a little hard sometimes, but it’s his passion and he has plenty of supporters trying to help him achieve his dream.
He loves to research things on his own and often goes for impromptu field trips to the art and natural history museums. The local museums allow schoolchildren to visit for free, which allows him to pursue his passion even more. He wants to go to college someday, but doesn’t know what type of museum he wants to docent at yet, so he doesn’t know quite what he’ll major in. All he knows is that he wants to work at a museum with a wide variety of exhibits so he’s constantly learning something new and sharing it with his guests. With a little bit of luck, he will be able to show off his knowledge from all that time in the museums at the National Trivia Contest coming up!
Personality and Quirks
______________________
Barnaby has two friends at school that he really enjoys hanging out with. They call themselves the “Science Squad” and all have very unique interests. Braxton is obsessed with all things rocks and gemstones! He wants to be a geologist or a jeweller when he gets older. Peggy Lee, his best friend, loves botany, just like her mother. The two of them love to visit Daika at the lab and watch him go about his work (especially with the plants)! She hopes to breed new varieties of flowers and fruits someday as a horticulturist. Her mother lets the three visit the park for free and even gives them food for the koi fish in the ponds and the peacocks. Most of their Saturdays are spent there. They love to play games like tag and picnic in the meadows (but have to look out for the birds who might pilfer their lunch)! Every Friday after school, the three of them go museum hopping. From art to the sciences, they’re fascinated by it all! Barnaby’s father gives him money to treat them all to lunch afterwards. One of Barnaby’s favorite memories with his friends is from when Peggy’s mom took them to see an opera at the nearby amphitheater! (They have very mature tastes and tend to be quite nerdy!)
He loves strawberry milk! Whenever he goes to the gelato shop, he orders three scoops: one of Menta (Creme de la Menthe), one Puffo (Italian blue bubblegum), and one Chocolate with Pepper! How those flavors go together and how he can pack away so much is a huge mystery...
He will be turning twelve soon! He’s planning to have a jungle-themed birthday at Peggy’s garden and invited his whole class, along with his family and relatives! His cake is shaped like a pineapple and he’s asking for a set of tiger pajamas, a pet snake, and an elephant backpack. His parents are still debating whether they’ll be getting him that snake. He doesn’t know it yet but his grandpa Ernie is buying him some very old children’s books from the 1800s and Barnaby that go absolutely crazy for! He thought Barnaby would finally feel like he had his own little museum.
He’s very mature for his age in some ways and can talk your ear off about a ton of subjects, but fails to remember to zip up the bag when he’s done sometimes. He’s thoughtful and kind but very scattered. He once tried to pack cereal (with the milk already in the same bag as the cereal) for his friends, only to discover a soggy mess when he went to go serve it.
He’s very “young” in a lot of ways and tends to have interests that differ from other kits, but his family encourages him to be himself!
He loves those dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets and monsieur croquet sandwiches.
Peggy often brings him flowers from her gardens, as she loves flowers and thinks the world would be better off if everyone got flowers on a daily basis, but he often gets teased for it.
He likes to wear a rock necklace that Braxton gave him. It’s actually of high value as it’s a precious stone, but none of them know that. They just thought it looked pretty.
He is only really mischievous when playing around and is, overall, a good boy. He gets really quiet and shy if reprimanded or he thinks he’s in trouble.
Les Toreadors— Carmen- One of his favorite songs! He just thinks it’s so pretty and loves jumping through the tall wildflower fields of Peggy’s garden and chasing Braxton around to this one as it’s just such a light, bouncy song!
Puttin’ on the Ritz — Taco- So fun and funky! He loves to get dressed up and go someplace fancy (he’s a bit spoiled, but not a snob!) This song reminds him of all the fun times he’s had feeling fancy!
Wouldn’t It Be Nice— The Beach Boys- He likes this song because it reminds him of sunny days. He has a lot of crushes so the romantic aspect of this song is so pretty to him.
Kokomo— Beach Boys- He’d love to get to travel the world someday, especially to tropical places (again, he loves the idea of the jungle)! One day, he’d like to have a suitcase stamped with all the destinations he’s been. This reminds him of traveling and going on vacations.
I’m a Believer— Smash Mouth- He loves this song’s fun atmosphere and the upbeat, romantic vibes. It just screams “get up and dance” to him (though he’s a lousy dancer).
