Finn is special lad.. most of the time when he sees a new critter or bug, he's the first collie to tuck his tail and scamper off. Last night was a different story. I was heading out to serve our collies dinner, just as I always do, and that's when I heard it. All of our collies were barking up a storm. They sounded like those rubber chickens you see in those funny videos, the ones that scream when you squeeze 'em! It was horrifyingly hilarious... and annoying.
So I hurried on in to the kennels and whistled as loud as I could. As much as I love our collies, they can be little rascals! Lucky for me, the barking nearly ceased to exist apart from our gal Rey. She kept barking at her kennel wall, and at first I thought she had gone mad, that was until I realized that Finn's kennel was on the other side of that wall.
What had poor little Finn gotten into? When I stepped in front of his kennel, his big ol' puppy eyes stared up at me as he wiggled like a worm. All of that barking was because of sweet Finn? Oh no, nono. The barking was caused by what Finn had in his kennel. When I looked back at Finn, that's when I noticed a light chirping noise. I was baffled, could dogs really make that noise? The answer is no, they can't chirp, but do you know what can? A cicada.
Our Finn had trapped a cicada in his mouth. Believe it or not, earlier that day Finn ran like no other when a butterfly landed on him. How in tarnation was a butterfly scarier than a cicada? I guess I'll never figure that out.
What was the one thing that really, really, baffled me? Oh that's easy! When Finn swallowed it.
