brief description: This key was discovered off the path leading up to a shrine. It was said to be discovered by the warm glow of the lantern seeming to beckon those to its location. It was hung up tied daintily to a low hanging branch of a tree via a red string, an ofuda tied to it as well as the lantern. As the key was neared the soft chiming of bells in the wind trickled into their ears despite the lack of wind that night. A sweet and very delicate smell, so faint as to be barely noticeable filled the air. Cherry blossoms. The light from the lantern flickered catching the odd little golden spheres adorning various parts of the key which its self was smooth and cool to the touch. It seemed as the blossom petals from the branches overhead fell at the precise moment of the key being touched, spiraled down, dancing gracefully around the key. A very soft, very faint melodic voice seemed to push its way into their mind as well with three small simple words, "Who are you?" At this moment the chiming of the bells grew louder before quieting again, the key carefully being carried up the hill to the shrine. Perhaps the words had been imagined. But this clearly belonged to the shrine ... right? It had to with the bright reds and golds of it, the beautiful hand-painted designs of a dragon, the night sky, and the dainty sakura. Someone had spent a lot of time on this. Perhaps it had simply been misplaced. { 260 }

key description:

The key is sleek. Visually, it is gorgeous and yet terrifying at the same time. Many have created different stories upon seeing the key. Greedy treasure hunters ran back to town, crying about a cursed key. Since then, many false rumours started.

It is the key to the gates of the underworld! Open it and you shall doom the mortal world.

It is the key that Hecate possesses. Touch it and she will show you the crossroads in your life.

It is Anubis’ key! Touch it and he will escort you to the underworld.

Many of such rumours started spiralling but were any of that true? Of course not.

Now let me tell you how the key looks and what it actually is.
Upon seeing the key, one will note the black and sky blue aura that’s practically seeping out from it. The body of the key is as black as night but you will see a large spiralling sky blue swirl in contrast to it - almost as if it’s wrapped around the key. It’s a dragon of eastern origin. The dragon gives off a powerful and regal air. Cerulean blue eyes are looking straight ahead and if you look at the key from a certain angle, it looks almost as if it’s staring into your soul. The dragon’s body is sky blue but as you turn the key, you will notice it starts turning into a darker shade of blue, until you reach the base where the dragon’s body meets a galaxy. It’s a sea of dark blue, purple and pink, like a lake of stars. The handle of the key sparkles from the tiny shimmers in the combination of colours, twinkling and dazzling. As you approach the tip of the key, you will start to notice what looks to be more dragons in the back. Their silhouettes dancing and twirling around the teeth of the key. You can’t make out any details aside from their slender bodies. There are perhaps 2 or 3 of them.

Of course, every key has a key box.
In contrast to the key, the key box is not as breath-taking. A simple black box complimented with sky blue accents as well as beautiful twinkling stars littered across the key box. More twinkling stars can be seen on the cover but less as you approach the base. Almost like sprinkling sprinkles on a cake.

The key is kept in the key box, away from human contact. Rumours say it’s in a cave that’s filled with treasures. However, only fools would take the gold and coins. The real treasure in that cave is but of course the key box, along with the key inside.

You must be wondering why.

How adorable.

You must understand, this key holds a secret. It’s not just a treasure sitting pretty in a sea of coins. It’s a beloved treasure of a Floc. This elusive Floc resides in that mountainous cave. Many have attempted to steal its gold and treasure but of course none have succeeded. The way to a floc’s heart isn’t theft you know. You can’t get it by stealing it’s key.

A soft pastel pink key seems to glow lightly, wrapped with illuminating vines and tiny, delicate leaves. At second glance, you notice in the leaves center a soft purple you didn't realize was there before. The keys features are delicate, decorated with small stars that look like they were plucked from the sky itself. When you approach it, you get a warm, welcoming feeling, as if you are safe at home and always have been. It seems like this key has a lot hidden away, and much more to share. But it's almost as if... it's excited. It can't wait to reveal itself and show you it's secrets. Are you ready?

brief description: this key has no color, and it seems almost impossible to illuminate. it is completely monochrome and its features bear the likeness of teeth, which cause discomfort when observed. why does a key need teeth? it gives off the impression of hunger, so perhaps that's the reason. holding the key too close to the ring may result in a bite, but no one knows for sure. this key was discovered in the bottom of a sinkhole, though its owner or what it was designed to unlock remains a mystery. what is known is that this key, alive or not, has a voracious appetite that never seems sated. we hope it likes skittles...

First, observe they keybox- though, it is only a ‘box’ in the loosest sense of the word! Made of gold that gleams bright as sunshine, the container is, rather, a perfectly circular locket, only a few inches wide and only two more than that long. Outside, it is delicately enameled with the image of a slim, spired white castle covered in rambling pink and blue twines of morning glories and verdant vines of ivy; built upon a small cliff overlooking a waterfall feeding a lake, whose indigo waters reflect a thin waxing crescent moon rising along with the first stars of evening.

Inside, this locket is lined with rose-pink silk- or at least, silk is the only word to do it justice, for many argue that the material is far from anything earthly. No space for a picture, but a keepsake? Perhaps. A keepsake like the key within.

What- you thought a floc’s key had to be large? Perhaps, but this one is not. The key is a tiny thing, having to fit into such a small home, and could arguably be overlooked! See- upon first glance, the key seems to be a similar hue to the rosy fabric it’s set upon, and many have thrown the locket away in disgust, thinking it empty and that they’ve been played for a fool- after all, the container is pretty, but hardly worth such a fuss! No- it takes a patient mind to find the key within. If you were to keep the locket open, for a time, you’d see a shift in hue- subtle at first, but enough to distinguish the tell tale shape of a floc’s key. Pinks give way to faint rays of lavender and lilac, then deepen to indigo, to midnight blue dappled with twinkling lights in pastel shades of all sorts. Look closer- you can make out the shapes of a skyline, a city of grand towers and spires, full of light from its people, from the stars and moon above.

It’s hard to describe the way the key feels, if you were able to pick it up and hold it. Although it certainly has full form and substance, it’s lighter than even glass- light as paper, almost, as if a single breath or gust of wind might send it flying away, never to be found again. The colours upon it shift and swirl like smoke... or perhaps, water? For its pattern does seem to shift and change following the hours of the day, blooming like drops of watercolour paint upon a prepared page. Yet the key, if you were to try to bend it, would not yield in the slightest...

Much like the spirit of the floc this key is bound to, or so the story goes. See- they may now be scattered to more mortal realms, but there are those out there who carry stories of the great mages of yore, and stories have a way of spreading. There was one, it was said, who so loved to dreamvisit distant lands and linger within them, her magic dedicated wholly to the creation of art so vivid, you’d think you could step into the frame and find yourself among the depicted scene. She was a gentle soul, an artist who never wished to do harm... and when the great war befell her homeworld, this floc was among the first to volunteer her own body to contain the corruption, so long as it would save her people.

But that is a tragic tale, one left for another day...

key description:
This key is thicker than most, clunky even, and rusted. The decay seems to almost be welcomed, natural even, as if the rust was always a part of the key, and always will be, along with the--is that...mold? Yes it's mold. Black wet mold like seaweed hangs limply across the key, in fact its hard to tell what the key might've looked like before the rust and mold...if it had a before.
About all one might be able to make out is there seems to be faint worn down engravings, maybe even some text? It's hard to say.
What isn't rust nor mold, is ancient blackness that both pulls you in and seems alive, yet also mundane and flat, you might even call it matte. You're pretty sure this key wasn't always black like this though, partly because the teeth of the key seem at least somewhat used and you swear you can see a faint sparkle of what could've been the original colouration.
Barnacles and a few dead corals cling fastidiously to the surface of the key all over, although few in number trying to get them off the key does nothing to help reduce the problem.
Getting curious, since it clearly came from underneath the ocean, you try putting it in some water to see if that changes anything and your efforts are rewarded with a sudden stream of bubbles forming around the key, ribbons of bubbles twisting around the key in slow, beautiful patterns. Not only that, but something compels you to turn the lights out, only after you've done so do you truly notice that the key is bioluminescent, faint bluish little sparkles seep through the black, appearing like an eerie night sky.
These lights slowly, slowly, pulse every so often, and never in the exact same pattern nor all at once.
At this point you feel a sudden wave of unease and fear. You shouldn't be holding this key in your possession, its not yours.
The longer you leave it submerged the worse this feeling grows, even when you leave the room, to the point you reach in and grab the key, throwing it out of the water hastily, and it clatters on the floor, still glowing, except now its glow pattern changes once again....why does it feel like the key is laughing at you in the way it twinkles...?

You'd heard of keys like this showing up sometimes, but at the same time, this one is not like what it'd been described, none of the others were quite so sinister. A shiver goes up your spine as you contemplate what that might mean, ghosts aren't real right?
"I'll put you back where I found you, okay?" you tell the key, partly to reassure yourself and partly hoping that if anything was listening that'd get them off your back.
All you did was pull up some old netting and other such trash from deep in the ocean as part of an environmental clean up service and the key had just been amongst all of it, you'd only taken it because it felt like it shouldn't be there, but it definitely didn't feel like you should keep it either, you know that now.
Hopefully whoever owns this thing will pick it up once you toss it back into the sea? Preferably without damaging your ship nor eating you, or otherwise seeking retribution for taking their belongings.
You nervously glance back at the key, still resting on the floor where you left it.
Hopefully the owner can wait until morning too, it's already well into the night and bedtime waits for noone.
It may have unsettled you before, but a man of the sea is never unsettled for long, you'd be out of work otherwise.
/Nothing will change come morning./ You tell yourself, closing the door on the key and heading upstairs to bed.
