Maltese Retrieving Hounds are a cross between the Pharaoh hound and the Labrador Retriever. Originally bred to hunt in packs, they are mostly used in shows and sport hunts nowadays.

First milestone and first specific gene! This one is called Vesper, and is based of the Pied Bat, a rare species of vesper bat in the family Vespertilionidae! To win this hound Give me a suggestion for a future breed specific gene! Any ideas about how it works or what locus to put it on are appreciated but not required. Ends March 20th!

Effects the S locus, sits on the T locus. Similar to a roan and appears with age; puppies are born with clear white and once grown show large spots/patches of their colour beneath it. This is a dominant trait and will show even if only one allele is present in the genotype (so combinations like tstd will still show dal spotting!)
This will only effect the S locus / the white on a dog, so if a dog is SS, it will not show!

Based on dalmatian spotting, named for the breed in its original tongue.

This gene I think would follow best within the A locus.
This gene is similar to saddle but could be considered an extended saddle working its way up over the muzzle, down the legs, carrying to the underside. I’ve based this type of gene on the maned wolf.

This gene I think would follow best within the E locus.
This gene could be another version of a mask. It could be interpreted as the eye marks or the mask covering the majority of the face and leaving the eye marks. based on the Brown-Throated Sloth.
