|dear me,
my friend asked me a difficult question today. she wanted to know how I felt about lying. I just said it’s complicated. cause it is, isn’t it, me? I don’t like lying.. let me correct that, I hate lying. but still, I lie. I lied to my friends earlier. I can’t believe I did that, me. I told them that I was fine, but that was a lie. I told them that I didn’t like anyone, but I do. me, how am I supposed to lie? I always get imposter when playing with my friends.. it’s like the game wants me to learn how to lie. and.. I guess I am.. in a game today, it was hard for me to vote out anyone, because I knew who the imposter was. it was me. sometimes I want to quit the game among us.. just because I don’t want to lie anymore, even if it’s just a game. I’ve heard of friendships being ruined because of that game, me. friendships. something that’s supposed to last forever gets torn apart with a simple lie. yeah, I think I might quit among us. should we quit among us? I don’t want to lose my friends because of some game.. oh, mom’s calling. we can continue pondering lying later.. bye.

"You lie. I lie. We have all done a little lying under the table at some point in our life. Oh no, don't hit me with the whole 'you're too pure to tell a lie' either. Have you ever heard of a white lie? A harmless little lie statement you say to someone so you don't hurt their feelings? No one's ever come up to you, asked if you were alright even though you're clearer not, but you insist you're okay or something similar? Ugh don't tell me you haven't, I'll count that as one then.

Anyways, how do I feel about lies and lying? Well, it's simply a part of life, our biological and social nature. There has been no one in this whole universe that hasn't told a fable. How do I feel about myself telling lies? Well, it's simply done for my own advancement, maybe even to help someone out. I wouldn't say I lie all the time, just sprinkle one here and there to maybe spice up a statement or throw it off my scent. Is it hard to do? To me, it isn't all that difficult. it's pretty easy to throw the accuser(s) off and make a safe getaway. If I feel myself going down, I just drag another person with me since I won't be going down alone. I could help friends by lying if they get blamed for something and I need to testify on their behalf. Oh, I'm not cruel if I'm willing to risk falsifying info to save a friend! That just means I care about them too much to let them suffer the consequences.

Hmm, how do I feel about others lying to me? Well, it is tit for tat when you really think about, if I can do it why can't you? Well, you can lie to my face all you want but be warned I dig deep for information and will always find the real truth. I can see through your lies, especially if you're telling them to others but I can see right through your smoke screen."

Cortez is a very serious character who won't tell a lie unless he believes/discerns it to help a situation or person.
This can be a difficult task for him, but if he truly feels that it would better a situation he will not hesitate to conjure up a lie.

He dislikes it when anyone preforms the act of lying, but understands that it is a normal behavior in our society, and that it can't be helped, but what he dislikes most about lies are the one's meant to harm and to deceive others.

As a detective he trained himself to detect when someone is lying, through observing; body language, speech, expressions or lack of, and so on.
Is he like a kalon lie detector? No, but he is very skilled at detecting them, at least more so than others in his department.
Since childhood, lies are what drove him to become a detective, all due to his troubled past.

Cortez loves to play poker with others from his department, as he doesn't have much for friends inside and outside of work.
With his non-expressive face, his keen eye to bluffs, and being a good detective all gives him quite the advantage in the game, but he's not always so good at playing it though, and tends to leave empty handed.

If Cortez could choose a world where lying was non-existent he would, but he knows the thought to be impossible, so that's why he's here to make a difference in the world to stop and prevent crime.

And just because he dislikes lying, and prefers to only do it only when it is to be helpful, that doesn't mean he hasn't lied about other things.
Whether they to be little white lies or something he's come to regret, he's still a person, and that just means he's imperfect like you and me, and that's okay that we are.
