in fumi lore, this is what ancient fumis looked like; before they left their home planet. essentially, this fumi looks as if they stepped out of a history textbook. to win them, tell me how what people's first impressions of them are and how to they react to it.

▸They know that people tend to be very slightly wary or scared of them, however they are unsure of why people
react to them that way. Maybe it's due to how different they look compared to their peers, or it's how their lack of
colourful flowers or delicate leaves has them stand out a lot more than they wished. The only thing they wish is that
their peers would just accept them for who they are and look past their dullness and lack of highly visible plants.
It hurts to be lonely, but there is not much that you can do...

name; sheratan ⸺ a star in the constellation of the white tiger
prompt;
白虎 / 𝙱𝚊̣𝚌𝚑 𝙷𝚘̂̉ / びゃっこ / 𝘉𝘺𝘢𝘬𝘬𝘰

xxxxxxthe white tiger of the west; baihu, byakko. representative of the autumn
season. the king of beasts, symbolic of wisdom and virtue, peace and harmony.
powerful and regal, its beauty and stature are recognized across most of the
world's distinct cultures. tigers are dangerous, fierce to their very core and yet
we can't help but admire their untamed grace.
xxxxxxsheratan made its home among a secluded shrine nestled within dense
overgrowth of camellia, crawling mitella vines, boundless knotweed, and a single
symplocos tree, small and struggling to establish itself among the strangling plantlife.
sheratan found the area directly around the shrine peaceful, but something sinister
seemed to be creeping its dark tendrils ever closer from the surrounding forest.
xxxxxxwhile it tended to the garden during the day, focusing most of its plant-
magic on the little symplocos tree but struggling to bring it back from the brink
of death, sheratan would perch on a ruined stone platform at the entrance to
the shrine, opposite of a moss-covered komainu. and every night, it could feel the
darkness drawing nearer while the poor symplocos tree withered.
xxxxxxone dark evening, sheratan was struck down by an unseen force. it came
to at the base of the symplocos sapling, where its last leaf lay on the cold ground,
curled in on itself and dead. for all of sheratan's effort, its strongest magic couldn't
save the tree from whatever mysterious sickness ailed it. the dusk air was cold and
uninviting. the surrounding forest was silent and a feeling of dread crept over it.
sheratan put two and two together just as something cold and incorporeal broke
the silence with a dark laugh.
xxxxxxstanding to face its foe, sheratan was taken aback to see not a looming,
shadowy figure or a demonic creature with a sharp smile and ogre horns, but a
single blue flame the size of its head. it stared transfixed while the bright flame
danced and flickered in the twilight disarmingly. much too disarmingly. sheratan
came back to its senses and peeled its lips back, baring its fangs at the entity.
xxxxxx"onibi" it immediately offered, perhaps shocked into revealing its identity
by the fumi's intimidating snarl. it was likely, sheratan concluded, that the spirit
intended on overtaking the shrine so that it could steal the souls of visitors coming
to pay their respects. sheratan had come to love its new home and would sacrifice
its own soul before letting that happen. the onibi, at the same time, seemed to
sense this in the fumi. as it drew nearer, the flames stretching toward sheratan,
the angry fumi did the only thing it knew, instinctually, to do. sheratan drew air
deep into its lungs, opened its maw wide, and roared...
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx⸺ the flame died. the symplocos bloomed white flowers.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺
an early study of fumis [
fumi fumi]
the following is an excerpt from an original zoology diary, dated [redacted]¹, translation² may not be fully completeentry one ⸺
i've been sitting out in the cold for the past sunrises. [translation missing]. i've observed many previously seen specimens³, although i am yet to catch a glimpse of the rumored creature. i have found evidence, such as regrowth in the nature surrounding the area. unexplained plant life, and enriched soil levels. there has been [translation missing]. i will keep updating further with any findings.
entry two ⸺
alas, a sighting! i was terrified as i locked eyes with the creature. it fled promptly, but i was able to [translation missing] before it made its escape. see included⁴ illustrations. the creature's eyes were a crimson in the sclera area, and a milky white where the pupil and iris would be located. [translation missing]. i took note of it's main features, as quick as i could, before it faded from my mind. i took note of a curled tail, a curled mane, and distinctive stripes. while it was dark at the time of the sighting, i could see in the shadows that there were a variety of colours decorating the coat. the creature appeared to be the size of a domesticated canine. could this species be domesticated as well, in the future?
entry three ⸺
i sighted the creature once again, this time during sunlight hours. [text obscured]. i noticed this time that the creature had a plant⁵ of some kind growing on the surface of it's body, namely the leg⁶ region. i couldn't tell if it was stuck to the fur at first, but upon closer inspection - as close as i could get without being spotted - it did indeed appear to protrude from the skin under the fur. it looked very similar to earth's moss.

entry four ⸺
i have managed to collect some of the creature's moss from a nearby tree bark. the tree, which had been dying the previous day, is now flourishing. i believe it was the creature, with some kind of powers⁷, who brought life back into this tree. could be very useful in domestication, and crop growth during the colder seasons. the specimen has become less skittish around me and my camp, it must be getting used to me. i wonder if it would allow me to make direct contact with it?
entry five ⸺
this may end up being the final⁸ entry in this diary. i have not seen it for many sunrises. i am, however, satisfied with my findings. i cannot wait to bring them back to the others and show them everything i observed. this new species is an incredible find, i wander how many more are out there, that haven't been found yet? further studies will commence, including tests on the live moss that i have preserved. i have decided to temporarily name these creatures "fumis", after my beloved niece i left behind at home.
the diary was concluded there. dust included in the diary is believed to be the remains of the moss that the zoologist found. there were many pages of sketches and studies in an ancient language. it appears that the humans were in awe when they first came into contact with the species we know today as "fumis". this awe has been passed throughout generations, as humans today still adore the creaures.
fin.

nickname; depending on who you are,
'A' may be acceptable
gender; male───────────────────────
The reactions Aethelwulf gets are just li
ke if we were to see the dead walk again: '
awestruck, slightly confused, and a little,
or very, intimidated. There is something
about his muscular frame and storybook-
like colouration that leaves many with aw
estruck eyes, almost always accompanied
by curiosity and speechlessness. Once the
y get to know that Aethelwulf is merely m
ortal, confusion settles in and questions st
art to be asked. "Why do you look like tha
t?" "How are you real?" "Do you have super
powers?"
Aethelwulf is humble enough to chuckle in
response, carefully articulating his words
to best fit the confused Fumi. He does his
very best to explain that he isn't some ima
gined character in their head, and that he
was just born looking like the ancient ones. ───────────────────────
▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆
▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆Naturally, Aethelwulf has a soft side for sp
routs and may twist his response to make
them believe he is a legendary Fumi, sent
to make sure they're on their best behavio
ur. Mothers and fathers alike are apprecia
tive, as there is often a shift in a naughty
sprout's mood now knowing they may be v
isited in their dreams.
However, when some don't get the answers
they hoped for, there is a hesitation that q
uickly turns into intimidation. Some don't b
elieve him, and back away slowly as if Aeth
elwulf were about to cast a spell on them.
Aethelwulf has gone through this process m
any times- you could say he's experienced in
the art of not bothering. He's found that on
ce bias sets in, there is little he can do to c
onvince them otherwise. He has tried to rei
terate that he isn't at all the type to bring c
urses upon the household, or to put simply,
he will do no harm. When unsuccessful it's
easier for him to move on- he knows there
are plenty that accept him as just a gentle
giant with a fangy smile. ───────────────────────

name; Star(which nicly enough is "Old one" in Bulgarian, which i like)
prompt; Star sat in udder misery most days. He hated the surprise and confusion and even disgust he saw on fumis faces when he was noticed. No one cared about his wonderfully thick garden full of old and rare flowers, or his libray of a house. He seethed at the others. If they didnt make him feel so left out he wouldnt be so angry all the time. But he was. No one cared about who he was on the inside just what he looked like.
