Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness.With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Midnight absolutely hates Valentine's Day! So much that he can often be seen scratching at the ground and pinning his ears when that time of year comes around. It goes back to when he was barely more than a colt, still in the beginning phase of his training. His original owner hired a very rude trainer, a woman who used harsh techniques and rarely - if ever - praised him for his successes. She was impossible to please and expected his obedience as her due in this life rather than a partnership that they would work on together.

That woman wore a strong, rose-scented perfume and dressed every day in either red or pink, so whenever he sees those colors in abundance or (heaven forbid!) catches a whiff of rose petals, those days come right back to the forefront of his mind and he becomes standoffish and uncooperative. Never again! He vowed himself, and that promise is alive in his heart even though he hasn't seen the old trainer in many years.

Prompt Blackwell hates Valentine's day solely because he is bitter from having never experienced the love that he had seen all around him, between humans and horses and even the cattle dogs from his old farm, it seemed everyone had someone special or someone who fancied them, except for him. Every year it comes and goes just the same, and Blackwell knows there's nothing he can do to put a stop to it, so he might as well brace himself for the influx of hearts and pink and glitter and roses. He's usually found in the furthest corners of the pastures, grazing with his head down and ears pinned back, tail swishing in the wind as he wonders why he hasn't found it yet. The very thing that swirls around him on that dreaded second week of February, the one thing that always seems to be right there in his face yet he's never had it for himself. He spends the rest of the month pondering and analyzing it from every angle, he has so many good traits, most of which are even in common with those stallions and mares he knows who have paired off for good, yet for some reason he's still by himself. He's never been able to figure it out and for that reason Valentine's day absolutely drives this stallion crazy. It also doesn't help that when he was a colt, he fell hard for a filly back at his old farm, and she seemed to fall in love with him right back, until one day another colt was introduced to the farm, he and Blackwell became quite close friends, but he found his filly spending more and more time with this new colt than with him, and his seemingly best friend took an interest in his mate as well, and before he knew it, he was left behind by them both. He vowed to keep himself from falling in love again to avoid being hurt this way once more, but at the same time he wants nothing more than to be loved, though he refuses to admit to it. Little does he know, however, that there's a mare who would turn her world upside down for a chance to talk to him if only she weren't so shy.
