- A muffled crack, water rushing beneath the surface; the noise growing until a definitive split forms, perhaps even under your feet. Though it may preface great danger in the arctic, Katsune cannot help but be addicted to the sound of water flowing below cracked ice.
The world is always shifting in a place formed by water in all its forms—growing and shrinking with the ebb and flow of the tide. Especially along the edges of the artic, in any place in which water runs visibly free beneath your feet, where comparatively thin ice sheets form the sole barrier between you and the imposing depth below. It's both empowering and terrifying, the thought that you could be there one minute and sucked under the next. Security is a fleeting feeling, going only so far as the thickness of the ice, and your own competency.
It's a reminder: to stay humble. To never over or underestimate your place in the grand scheme of things; you're important in what you do, but you aren't invincible. You aren't going to be cosmically saved from death even if you hold in your hands the cure for some horrendous disease.
And that is why the sound of ice cracking over flowing water is her favorite sound. It's a beautiful danger, and a vital lesson to be learned.
