Route Three of the Hawthorn Hooves Stable Event
The blizzard was on its way. As the sun was threatening to dip behind the horizon and turn the evening to night, someone shouts out, something about hearing a horse walking. The group quickly follows the sound, unsure what could be making the noise, but another member shouts about spotting a cave.

Sure enough, when the cave is inspected, several pairs of equine eyes gaze hopefully outwards, delighted to have finally been found.

This is a Route Three horse! Remember you must first enter in the Route Three prompt before you enter for any horses listed as route three. You may only win two horses per route, excluding the horses listed as "Special," of which you may only win one total.

Show Name: Carried The Gods
Barn Name: Aetos
Gender: mare
Age: 20 years
Height: 16.1 hh
Halter: Space/galaxy themed?
Discipline: lesson/pleasure horse
Competition:
Aetos was getting on in years, she knew that and most others did too. It didn't scare her as much as she thought it would, she was still as spry and energetic as most of the other younger horses at Hawthorn, but she did have a hard time cantering for decent amounts of time. She thinks that's why she was put on the list to find a new home, they wanted to give her to someone that could give her a nice life without the stress of shows or competitions. And Aetos was genuinely okay with that, she was happy to live a calmer life. Her eventing days were over.

But the run up the rocky terrain out of adrenaline and fear had left her legs shaking and she was exhausted. She ended up laying on the cold rock as she waited, hoped, for anybody to find the group she was with and bring them back somewhere safe and warm. Thank the high heavens that the rescue group eventually did, and she gladly got to her feet and walked right over to one of the helpers to get a halter and lead put on. Now the actual walk back down? That was the issue for her. The steep hill made her nervous, she was afraid her legs would give and she would get hurt. And even worse, possibly hurt the horse and rider that she was being led by.

It was slow going, with a lot of double-checking for each step to make sure the ground was solid and no stones would go rolling from underneath her hooves. Aetos was grateful for the younger stallion walking with her and letting her lean against his shoulder for support sometimes. She did end up slipping one time, whinnying in shock and fear as the ground gave underneath her. But the stallion was there to catch her, his rider desperately trying to keep all of them right side up and uninjured. Aetos was able to get her hooves back under her, and after a small rest on a flat part of the terrain, she was ready for the rest of the descent. They were able to get back to the trailers without any further incident, and gosh Aetos was glad to get the chance to get some clean water and fresh hay once she got there. It had been a stressful few days, but at least she was safe now, thanks to the rescue team. (412 words oofta)

Show Name: Polar North's Little Mockingbird
Barn Name: Branwen
Gender: mare
Age: 3 Years
Height: 15.2hh
Halter: Black with silver hardware please!
Discipline: English Pleasure
Competition:

Branwen was exhausted already, from the anxiety of the crash to the panic over the oncoming blizzard, to worrying about the other horses and... And if she didn't stop now, while she was ahead, she'd only wear herself out even more.

She had tried to find a place to lay down and take a nap, but every part of that cave was cold and uncomfortable, besides, her worries were keeping her awake, even if she did get comfortable it was unlikely she'd be able to actually rest.

Her legs were aching something terrible, having carried her so far from home, the rocky cave floor making her grip on the ground uneven wasn't helping any, either.

When the other horses were being led out one by one, she was relieved on one hand, but on the other hand the thought of having to trek back home all that way made her bones ache even more.

Couldn't someone just carry her?... No? Ugh...

As she started her walk, the ground seemingly became rougher than the path she remembered taking to get here, and the flurries of snow accumulating slowly were making everything so slippery.

Then, the unthinkable happened--

Bran slipped and fell.

She panicked at the sudden give of her legs, a frightened whinny leaving her muzzle as she realized she was going down, but luckily she wasn't hurt.

Just as the rider helping her turned to help her up, she regained her footing with a shake of her head.

She could not wait to get back home.

She'd had enough of all this outdoor horse stuff!

The walk back home was the same- Uneven terrain from chunky rocks and jagged stone making her body wobble with the uncertainty of whether or not she would fall again, her tired joints enhancing the teetering motions.

The horse in front of her seemed to be having the same issue despite pressing on, she could see her tired eyes despite the leading distance she had.

The moment Branwen's hooves hit that familiar, soft dirt path that led to the stables, she found herself all but running inside, relief washing over her as she saw the faces of her old friends.

It didn't take long for her exhaustion to catch up behind her, though, and she ended up falling asleep pretty quickly the moment she laid down, the soft hay beneath her giving support to her tired frame.

She was safe now in the warmth of the barn, snoring quietly as her old handler draped a warm blanket across her back.

And for her rescuers she would be forever grateful.

xxxxit was getting dark. in the panic following the trailer crash, the herd mentality had kicked in and astrid had followed when everyone else began running uphill. she had stuck around when they found the cave and hoped to be found soon because she could feel the blizzard on its way. now, on their way back to barn after being found, astrid's eyelids were beginning to droop from exhaustion and she just wanted to get home. she missed her cozy stall and whispering across the aisle to her friends. she missed napping with the barn cats and scolding the foals when they got too rowdy at night. the shadows and sounds that were spooking other horses didn't even phase her; her mind was elsewhere. she was not a fan of the rocky terrain, already having tripped a couple times since she wasn't really paying too much attention to where she was walking. she was so lost in thought and mentally elsewhere.

xxxxsuddenly, her hoof slipped and she lost her balance. she stumbled, scraping her leg on a boulder and bumping into a tall pine tree. apparently the pine was not very sturdy, probably due to the gravelly floor. it lurched over and went tumbling down the hill, crashing into other trees and triggering a sort of rockslide. the sudden noise sent a few horses running. others reared up when the ground underneath them became unstable. after the chaos died down and everyone was accounted for, someone came over to check on her leg. astrid was still skittish from the whole experience so she didn't let them get anywhere near her for a few moments until she calmed down.

xxxxthe rest of the trip home was quiet and uneventful other than the odd spook here or there. astrid was so glad to finally be safe, away from the dangerous rocks and imminent blizzard, that she immediately laid down in her temporary stall and fell into a deep, restful sleep. she couldn't even bring herself to get up to talk to her neighbors and friends from home; that could wait 'til morning.
