Both of these pets were surrendered after their original owners found themselves unable to care for their needs. After a short conversation with both of them, it was found that the Pitbull was born deaf but was young and difficult to train, and the black cat had their eyes recently removed due to complications. These poor pets just need a good home to help them live happy lives <3.

Of course being deaf wasn’t the easiest thing to life with, the constant silence grew eerie from time to time. Well, she didn’t know anything else aside from silence, so it wasn’t anything out of the usual for Prada. It isn’t exactly something she enjoyed, being deaf, she was constantly being spooked by things. And even being outdoors in the sun was harder, due to having such light eyes, she has a hard time seeing so she doesn’t usually pick up on things approaching her until it’s already caused her heart to skip a beat. Again, this wasn’t anything unusual for her, and although she wasn’t quite happy with it, she was accepting of it.
But, Prada was aware of the troubles for others that come along with her and her deafness. The dog has always been a rather cheerful dog, she always tried to see the light in things. But when it came down to her and causing trouble that she couldn’t help, she always held a constant guilt that nipped at her heels.
Prada strives to make the people and companions in her life happy. She knows how it feels to be unhappy, she suffered from severe depression at some point in her short life. Prada lives by the saying of “Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time,” so no matter how busy she may be, she’ll always put time in to ensure that her companions, and maybe even a stranger, has a genuine smile on their face before they leave her.
It was so unfortunate for her when the dog crossed the street to retrieve a ball that’d been thrown to her, and went a bit too far, that Prada has gotten hit by an incoming car. She couldn’t hear it, and by the time she’d reached the ball, all she saw was black. It was peaceful. But when she was laid down to rest, Prada didn’t want to just disappear... so she chose to stay, in a way. But after the day of her death, no matter how hard she tried, no one paid any mind to her. Not even her people... but one day, she became life-like again and that’s when she found herself in SFA only to be taken home by a sweet person named Caroline.
She’s lived with Caroline and her odd home mates for a long while now, in fact she was the one to teach her sign, and a feline named Agnes worked with her to teach her how to pronounce words and create sentences. The girl, and Aggie, had a lot of patience with her despite the trouble. It was admirable really, and it was then on when Prada was brought home that she decided to spend the rest of her days ensuring those around her are as happy as she could get them to be.

No one truly could be trusted. Especially people and their offspring. They don't care if the litter box is clean, or if theres food available. They only care about their things, and God forbid you touch something of theirs.

You have to be light and nimble on your feet to evade them because hell will befall upon you should their greedy hands wrap around you. Either trying to rub their stink all over you, swing you around, talk at you in their cursed tongue, or pull your tail.

And above all else, you never stop looking for a way to escape.

The ground is nicely cushioned, keeping me warm and snug while I lay on my side. I'd love to lay here all day and just sleep. If they'd let me.

There's unfamiliar voices in the room, but they sound distance and not legible. Perhaps my wardens had company over? I should hide ... except I can't move my limbs. I try over, and over, and over again to move them. The same thing happens with my eyes.  Everything's just an endless void. I don't ever remember falling asleep in the warm blankets! The smell in the air is like acid to my senses, burning my nose. This isn't my wardens den. A few moments go by before my leg makes a sluggish movement to brace my body in preparation to get up. Unfortunately, the humans in the room must take notice because I can feel one of them stroking my back. Rubbing their grubby scent all over me and the blanket. They coo in that whispering tone of theirs that they think helps, but its all foreign language to me.

However, my heart starts to slow down and it seems easier to remain laying down. The panic slowly ebbing away. The strokes being gentle and slow, bringing a sort of peace to the confusion.

That's when it hits me.

The pain is gone.

The hope of escaping my warden weaned with the loss of my eyes.  My motivation for living evaporated into thin air. Just like that... poof. Forever chained to depend on humans and their offspring.

My warden never came back. They left me with unfamiliar people that had a million different scents on them. As if they were some sort of shapeshifter.

They probably paid off my warden to eat me.

Their eating rituals started with the classic rubbing of their grubby stink via their hands and swinging me around like one of their mini-me toys. Then they had set me in a cage, probably to marinate with their stink, with some food and water, to fatten me up no doubt.

I waited for the end for days.

There's no light at the end of the tunnel, having been snuffed out long ago.

Doomed to stare into the eternal darkness.

It's a week before Halloween, two months into college. First time being away from the parents and having no friends. Sure, there was a few new ones from classes but the point was it's lonely. Renting a bachlor apartment. Going to parties to try to spend as little time feeling lonely in her apartment by herself as she can. But also having her independence. And Halloween is important because she needs a costume for a certain party.

Her plan is to go as a witch, original right? But her friend actually made the comment about missing a familiar. It was said in passing like a joke. Not to be taken seriously. However, that friend was on to something.

That's what brought her to the animal shelter to look at cats up for adoption. With a cat around, maybe she wouldn't be so lonely.

Meeting with each cat, she found them all to be loveable. However, one cat stood out.

The black short-hair has no eyes, and seems to not have any interest. He looks how she feels inside. And she has hope to be able to turn the tides for the little guy.

Minutes later, she leaves the shelter with the cat bundled up in her arms, petting him, and her adoption papers in hand.

"I think you need a new name to start your new life... what do you think about the name Salem?"

I hate to say it. But I didn't get eaten.

This new human was different. She cleaned the litter everyday. I never had to drink from the toilet again. Though, she still rubbed her scent all over me. It was mildly bearable.

The most important thing she did, was create a game. We did this thing where I had to scent items out. If I got it right, I got a treat. But it gives you a sense of purpose. And slowly, I could become worth something again.

I found the motivation to live without the need to escape. Human beds were way to warm and soft for that nonsense.

Prompt - gemini's motivation is defiantly mosie, she cares so much for the young cat and just wants to help him live out a healthy life. when she first came to olive branch, gemini was a scared and challenging young pup. it wasn't until she met mosie that gemini found out the true meaning of life. at mosie's arrival, gemini began trusting the shelter staff more and learned that being deaf doesn't always mean you have to be scared. as she spent more and more time with mosie, gemini also realized that some animals have it worse than her. she would rather be deaf then not be able to see. after a few months with mosie and the shelter, gemini came to be the happy go skippy pup that we all love. plus, its quite adorable to see her nudging mosie around like he is a pup of hers. he truly is her motivation, she won't eat unless he eats first and she always guards him from the other cats when they play too rough.

Prompt - while mosie adores his deaf companion, gemini, his motivation would have to be music. since he is blind, mosie addresses well to noises, such as bags crinkling and mild music. his previous owners were in a jazz band, so mosie grew up listening to it all the time. of course, not just any music will suffice this picky cat! mosie is at his most motivational peak when the shelter staff put on some lionel richie or john legend. mosie loves wandering around with gemini by his side, listening to smooth music. he understands that when the staff play a certain song, its time for food, and when another song comes on, its time to play. the music motivates him to join in on the fun with the other shelter animals and to allow himself to eat.
