Route One of the Hawthorn Hooves Stable Event
Just as the trees seem like they can get no thicker and the woods themselves seem to be as black as night around you, when the hours have passed and things look dim, the group comes across a clearing. Inside, watching the group of rescuers emerge from the woods, are several horses.

The search and rescue group is absolutely thrilled, but then the questions arise - what happens to them now?

This is a Route One horse! Remember you must first enter in the Route One prompt before you enter for any horses listed as route one. You may only win two horses per route, excluding the horses listed as "Special," of which you may only win one total.

A blizzard is coming. Did this horse know of the danger and choose to run anyway, or were they swept away in the crowd?

Show Name: For The Glory and Fame
Barn Name: Gloire
Gender: Mare
Age: 15yrs
Height: 17.1hh
Halter: Eye color
Discipline: Dressage
Competition: Glorie could barely keep her balance as horses rammed into her sides, all of them struggling to escape the fallen trailers. She ran blindly, the crowd guiding her to where ever they were running to. When she opened her eyes they were running down a path. Gloire swore she saw a mare take a tumble down a hill in the distance. Even if she wanted to stop and help, she couldn't. The poor mare was stuck in the middle of the crowd, unable to choose where she wanted to go. Gloire sighed and just ran, no way she was getting out of this.

Barn Name: Snowbank
Gender: Mare
Age: 11 years old
Height: 16.3hh
Halter: surprise me!
Discipline: Eventing
Competition:
As the trailer doors flew open, a freezing gust rushed into the giant metal box, ruffling the manes and tails of the horses inside into an unkempt mess. The others must not have noticed this chilly snap as they all fled the trailer at lightning speed. Snowbank remained in the trailer, sending the impending danger of what felt like a stark change in weather in the air. She could feel the oncoming snowstorm in her bones.

From the safety of the sheltered trailer, the mare made frantic attempts to call the rest of the herd back to her. They were all far too panicked to hear Snowbank’s pleas, and they raced off into the woods, out of her line of sight. Snowbank was worried, but she knew she had to go after them and lead them back to safety. She hesitantly lowered herself out of the trailer, and took a large breath to fill her with courage. She reared up, then took off running down the path the rest of the herd took, hoping to find them all before it was too late.

Show Name: Lotta Bad Attitude
Barn Name: Merlot
Gender: mare
Age: 8
Height: 15h
Halter: navy with gold hardware
Discipline: barrels
Competition:
When those trailers crashed it was utter chaos. Debris and rubber scattered everywhere! With a jumbled mind from the wreck merlot staggered to her hooves. Gasping for air since it had been knocked from her. She shook her neck and body, scattering the scraps of leaves and twig stuck within her mane.

She gave a quick glance around to assess the situation. Thankfully one group of horses had already left into the woods unharmed it seemed. Another big crash rang across the sky. Must have been one of the other trailers. Taking off she went to where the sound came from to see if anyone had made it.

Just as she was about to round the corner of a trailer. A wave of hooves and heartbeats flooded her. Shoulders and swinging necks completely stopping her in her tracks. Completely knocking the wind out from her chest. It must have been the horses from the other trailer she thought.

Struggling to not get trampled, she made the quick decision to go with the crowd -and not fight it. That split decision saved her life for now. Being swept away towards the forest, she struggled to keep her footing. Merlot tried shouldering her way to the outside of the stampede but it was to no avail. She was finally knocked over and fell to the forest floor. Being trampled was no fun but thankfully a stallion had noticed her lying there and helped her up.

Merlot stuck with the stallion, still going deeper into the woods. When the crowd finally slowed down she saw the clearing they had entered. An older stallion called out offering help from a dark mare to the left. She gave a nod to the stallion that helped her and moved that direction.

Gwen was never one to panic. She normally approached things with a level head, helped others when she could, but this was not something she had ever expected. She would have loved to have some more time to process, but she didn’t get the chance.
Other bodies pushed past her as soon as the cold air hit them, the aroma of panic sitting strong in the air. She tried to stop them from running, tried to keep things calm, just as she had been trained to do her entire life, but she each call, each attempt was drowned out by the noise surrounding her.

So, she steeled herself to join them. Ignoring the cold nipping at her ears, threatening the approach of the foul weather, she pushed herself forward with the back of the crowd. With every stride away from the trailer, anxiety nipped at her heart, telling her that they were heading towards the danger, but she thundered on, between the other horses at her sides, who often flashed the whites of their eyes and loosed nervous breaths.

It was a slight relief when they stopped, but the clearing would offer little protection from the elements. But Gwen didn’t let that worry her too much, taking it upon herself to offer calmness to the horses in the clearing when they needed it most.

    username. doggface
registered name. adagio's cold as ice
    call name. boston
    gender. mare
    age. 10 yr.
    height. 16.2hh
    halter. artist's choice
    discipline. ranch versatility

prompt. the mare’s knee had been aching all morning. while it was painful enough to the point that she had started to favor the leg, she was more concerned about what this throbbing indicated.
as a yearling, she was terribly stupid. it was to be expected at that age, but her antics had left her with a hip that stung at the hint of an oncoming storm. nine years later she had learned how to interpret this soreness as warning, and after that day, she would come to be awfully grateful for this twinge of caution.

now, boston was never the type to lose her head when the situation took a turn for the worst. after her accident, she had never raced; instead, she was left with ten years’ experience of work on the ranch under her belt. she knew not to crack under pressure.
so when the wheels of the trailer began to slip on the ice, she braced for impact - and not ten seconds later, it came. no amount of preparation could keep that thought out the mare’s head; the one that pushed her to panic, to thrash, to do anything necessary to escape. it was instinct, but she’d been conditioned to overcome instinct. she’d been in precarious situations before.
despite the dangers that surely lurked within the woods that lay in front of her, boston was left with no choice but to chase after her frightened companions who ran through the trees in a panicked, adrenaline-filled dash. the most she could do was offer her ability of working alarmed cattle to the agitated herd. while she certainly couldn’t stop their frenzied gallop, she could at the very least guide the group to a location that would offer them a sliver of safety when the storm would inevitably strike.

Show Name: Polar North's Light From The Watch Tower
Barn Name: Scout
Gender: Mare
Age: 3 Years
Height: 17.2hh
Halter: Black with gold hardware, please
Discipline: English pleasure
Competition: Scout is a big horse, but to many, she is a gentle giant.

She's very empathetic, and when others feel joy, so does she-- However this has it's downside, because when the masses panic, Scout panics right along with them.

When the trailer crashed, Scout was nothing short of absolutely terrified, paralyzed in fear and trying to ration her breaths as she hyperventilated, heart racing in her chest.

Her legs knocked together and her glances were frenzied and frightened, she watched everything happen in slow motion, she was helpless, afraid and frankly, she felt useless.

There was nothing she could do, no amount of weight tossed around that trailer could help, she couldn't move anyways. She was stuck in that spot for what felt like eternity.

She recalled a class she took with her old rider, something-something survival... Wilderness survival? Lost survival? Something like that.

She remembered the instructor telling people that if they get lost and don't have a map or compass, to stay where they are and call for help periodically.

Scout could do that. She could stay here, she just had to keep calm and-- Oh no.

Oh no.

The doors to the trailer had been opened, frightened horses from the back began rushing to the front, pushing Scout's body with force.

She fell several times, each time she got back up it felt like she was shortly knocked down again-- Not wanting to get injured in the stampede, she began to follow them, trying to get out of their way before someone- and at this point it's likely to be her- got hurt.

She didn't want to leave the trailer, knowing it would be the first place the rescuers checked and it would provide shelter from the oncoming blizzard that she was feeling in her bones, but she had two choices.

Go with the crowd or get hurt, and frankly, she'd rather be lost with her friends and family than be injured and cramped up in a tiny metal room.

She knew they were all getting progressively more and more lost, she knew that none of them had any clue where they were going, she knew she would get lost too.

She could feel tensions rising in the herd now, just moments after the frenzy.

It would be a long night.

Show Name: Jubilant Spirit
Barn Name: Jill
Gender: mare
Age: 7 years
Height: 17.1 hh
Halter: snowy night
Discipline: show jumping
Competition:
Jubilant Spirit known as Jill around the barn was shifting nervously in the trailer that was taking them to a new home. She was very worried, while her old home had been falling apart, the humans and horses there had done their best to take care of each other. Jill had heard horror stories about bans where the horses were not allowed to socialize, locked up all day, and their only exercise was exacting training. She really hoped this new place was not one of those and they got there soon. She could feel the cold wind picking up in preparation for a snow storm. Suddenly her world was turned upside down, Jill and the herd were thrown about as the trailer tipped towards the left and slid a few feet coming to rest on some trees at an odd angle. The horse in the trailer began to call out in fear, shifting around, trying not to hurt each other but anxious for a human to come to make things right. Just then the back door popped open and the horse closest to it pushed it open with their nose. The herd took one look at the open door and bolted out of it, it was too much temptation after the stressful day they had been having. The herd took off into the woods running away from all the fear and confusion. It briefly crossed Jill’s mind that maybe they should not go too far with the storm coming. But then the herd caught her up in their panicked flight and all thoughts fled from her mind other than staying within the safety of the herd.

xxxxandromeda could feel the chill in her bones. a blizzard was clearly on its way. as she stood in the crashed trailer with the other horses she was travelling with, she knew they could feel it too. when they began to run off into the woods out of fear, andromeda followed at first. however, at the sight of a little grey filly slowly wandering away in the cold, she didn't hesitate to abandon the group and go after her. it was clearly not safe out, especially not for a lone filly. as her mother always told her, she lived up to her namesake. andromeda is one of the brightest stars in the pegasus constellation and the very brave daughter of cassiopeia in greek mythology. when she was little, her mother told her that her name meant to shine bright and be brave. she took those words to heart as a filly and, even today, would try her best to live up to them.

xxxxtherefore, andromeda trotted after the grey filly through the frosty vegetation. she quickly caught up, not losing sight of her, and led her back to the group of lost horses. there was no way she was letting anyone get stranded in the soon-to-be blizzard. she would rather risk her own life than let someone else freeze to death.
