    Owner: HowlingHooves
    Name: Meidahl
Age: some hundred years, but looks in the prime of his youth.
What does the Alphabet say?: First glances would think a curse of sorts, but in truth the individual symbols represent a boon, of sorts. Guide me from madness, from betrayal and deceit. Lend strength to my spirit when all grows dark.
Prompt: Meidahl once was a messenger of a Viking shaman, aiding the man in his duties as only a Peryton was able; flying quickly with needed herbs, delivering messages to other shaman or village elders, protecting his own Shaman when deep in the darkest of forests. But a curse struck the stag down, afflicted him with a blight upon his senses. His shaman saved him, working day and night for nearly a fortnight before the stag returned to his senses. To stave of further curses, the shaman requisitioned the shackle to be made, carving the tunes into the metal himself with hushed words of incantation. Unknowingly, though, the shackle extended the life of Meidahl. Darker magic was used to create the protecting object, and while Meidahl remains youthful and spry, when he feels weakened it takes life from the plants that surround him until he is restored.
The shaman, once realizing what abomination he had created, tried to have it destroyed. Meidahl understood and did not fight, but the shackle would not be removed, even by the power of the shaman who created it; it held its own, feral mindset and fought with a vengeance when it felt destruction was near. The shaman fought to destroy it, but died himself, and so it remains on the stag as he wanders about, gathering herds and leaving them at the doors of people who he believes needs them.
