ϟ Username: Cactologist ϟ Name: Aquila ϟ Gender: Heifer ϟ Collar: Lightning to match eyes! ϟ Prompt: ϟ

The thunder rolls, and the lightning strikes
Another love grows cold, on a sleepless night

Aquila flicks off the radio. It's an unnecessary added distraction, especially with its ominous omen. She leans forward over the steering wheel to squint through her rapid windshield wipers and the practically-solid rain. What more, the impenetrable darkness tells her it's almost midnight without even looking at the dashboard. Refusing to slow down, she jerks her Taurus around another hairpin curve. Drawing in a shaky breath, she steels her muscles against the tremor and blinks the sweat out of her eyes.

It was around 8:30 when Aquila's best friend had called her. She was on her way to bed, but now that's the last thing on her mind. As she speeds down the slick mountain roads, the words still senselessly tumble around in her mind. "I thought you were staying at your parent's tonight... oh, I saw your man getting close with someone in town, and I assumed it was you..." The same fiancé that had said he was too busy with exams to come with her. If this was the first time, she might have let it go, but no such luck.

Aquila snaps back into reality with a blinding flash of lightning. She blinks rapidly, but her back tires hydroplane, and she struggles to regain control just in time for another flash. This one strikes not fifty feet ahead of her and its target tree begins to tip not a moment later. Even if she could see it, there's nothing she could do about it. It falls, she brakes and spins, there's a deafening crack, and then all goes dark.

ϟ

Aquila opens her eyes to only white light. Everything is numb and blurry. Is this heaven? What happened? Her mind is blank. Soon, unrecognizable faces appear and spill muddled words, but what she does hear doesn't make sense. This story can't possibly be her own. "No one knew where you were... a tree landed on you... lucky to be alive... coma... long recovery..."

The words continue, but Aquila's eyelids sag. Before she falls asleep again, she looks around one more time. A few of the concerned faces look a touch familiar now, but the one she's looking for is no where to be found. Even in her confused state, she begins to feel that old anger turn into a cold resentment. That she can't forget.

ϟ

Aquila sits on her porch as a slow drizzle falls all around. In the distance, lightning flashes, but for the first time she realizes she is not afraid. She still has a long way to go, but this reminds her that she has still made progress. Using the arm of the chair for support, she carefully rises onto her shaking legs and inches down onto the lawn. The cool rain runs over her, washing away whatever anger was still clinging to her. Of course, a part of her would always be hurt, but it was a part of who she was and she was learning to accept it. Slowly, she turns her face towards the sky, and she smiles.

collar/bell color: suprise me!
prompt:

Sytara wasn't always like this. It all started 4 years ago, she had the perfect life, a great family and great friends who loved her and adored her. She would go everywhere and he invited anywhere by everyone. Sytara didn't know what she did, but it all changed one night. Sytara got home from a friend's place and she headed inside her family home. But everything was packed up and nobody was around "hello?" Sytara shouted but it was so quiet, you could here a pin drop. Sytara sat down before letting the tears fall, she saw a piece of paper on the counter.

She got up and went over to it to see it was written on "Dear, Sytara.. we hate to do this, but you have let us down and you have squashed the families name.. your a disgrace and we no longer want to be associated with you or anything you do, have a great life," she looked up as tears fell, "what did I do?" She questioned herself sadly. Sytara's shoulders slumped as she walked up the stairs to her room before packing her bags, she was leaving. Now 4 years later, she had everything back on track, minus her friends and family. She now has abandonment issues and it's hard to get into a relationship for she is afraid they'd abandon her.

    name: natalia
    gender: heifer
    collar/bell color: artist's choice
prompt: naive, insecure, scared, shy. those were words frequently used to describe natalia's personality. she was always very introverted, tried to please everyone around her by not saying something that might anger them, by staying in her own safe bubble and not going out of it, because what if they all started to don't like her if she shared her different opinion or said 'no' when someone asked her to do something, if they thought she wasn't 'cool' enough, or not 'pretty' enough? she tried to fit in and please others and still, she was never truly enough. she just wanted to be herself without being judged, was that too much to ask for?
natalia decided to escape from her familiar surroundings and met new people who were so different from those she knew. they were open, accepting, tolerant and very friendly. she found herself getting more and more comfortable, opening up slowly, but surely. she learned that it was okay to be different, that it was okay if not everyone likes her. she won't hide herself anymore and try to be someone else just because it might irritate others because they were always others that love her and accept her just the way she is.
now, she is looking into the mirror, smiling at herself. she is not her mistakes or the opinion of someone who doesn't even know her. natalia knows now that she is amazing, beautiful and unique just the way she is, and nobody is ever gonna take that away from her again.

prompt:
It had started the moment her high school sweetheart had begged her to join the yearly musical with her, the young lady practically bouncing in excitement as Ro gave her a hesitant nod. She had always been the more silent and reserved type, never one to truly place herself within the spotlight or in the eyes of those around her. No, she found more solace in the quietness of empty hallways and the smell of biblichor as she flipped the pages in the small nooks of the library.

Her girlfriend was a different story; she had loved theatre since she was young, watching them on Broadway and on television, and now that she was finally able to begin her career, she could do what she had wanted to do ever since she was able to remember. It wasn't her first rodeo- living in the limelight, but that rush of ecstasy as the curtain opened always ignited the fire in her veins. Theatre was her escape. Theatre was her oxygen, her sustenance...her lifeline, and Ro felt a tiny bit jealous at how quickly her love had found her calling.

Ro found herself auditioning and earning a smaller role, much to her relief, and she would practice every night after school with her girlfriend until her throat was sore. She hated the fact she would have to sing on stage, but luckily she didn't have many lines by herself. She had slowly started to find herself becoming more confident, more willing to practice with others and getting to know the rest of her peers. By the time the last practice was over she had amassed quite the following, the group celebrating her first performance with a small after party of a few close companions. Looking back, Ro finds herself quite grateful for the experience- though she and her high school sweetheart have moved on for quite some time, she will never forget the lessons she had taught her.

gender: Asexual, does not care about pronouns
collar/bell color: Blue steel with a splatter of gold
prompt: Loss of a parent - or, in some cases, both parents - always seems to be The Thing that brings the Disney-esque hero to light. Gone are the twin supporting and shielding figures in a young person or creature's life, they are to face the unknown challenges ahead on their own and find their inner strength to bear the brunt of the imagined reality that the writers paint them into.

Yven always thought it was hooey. With a village to raise a child, as the saying goes, there's always love and support to go around.

Then, she found herself standing in their footprints.

The graves of her parents were so simple, reflecting their lives; they were born, they grew up, they fell in love and had a calf, then passed away together in an early winter storm. The mundane nature of their lives and deaths left very little mark upon the work except in Yven, who promised that they'd be remembered.

But any mark upon the world in their name had to begin somewhere.

Yven looked at the reflection of the sad, lonely little calf in the polished faces of the granite. It was not the face of a creature that could make such an indelible mark... but it could become one. Learning to love and support one's self, to mature beyond one's years... the path ahead was tricky, winding, and at times treacherous. But the promise was already made.

Yven would just have to gather the determination to see it through.

Congrats! I had a hard time choosing between a few of you, but this hit home. My hormonal, emotional pregnant self was brought to tears. I'll update Yven's collar ASAP!
