Aïda flattened herself against the doorframe, hoping desperately the angry kalon would think she'd ran ahead instead of ducking into this place. Where was this place, anyway? Ignoring the shouts from outside, she snuck a glance around the room. It appeared to be somebody's house: the first thing she noticed was the laundry hanging from wall to wall, and then the kalon kit standing at the sink.

Flip. Aïda felt like vomiting. She knew this kit. The blue fur, shell jewelry and shine; they were unmistakable. They hadn't noticed her, but despite their deafness she was sure they would soon. Staring at her paws, she froze.

There was a flicker of movement from across the room, looking up she saw the other kit's paws fluttering throughout the air. <why are you in my house?> Aïda swiftly decoded the sign language and flushed heavily. She couldn't tell them why, she couldn't tell anyone why. When that foster family had found out.. they'd forced her to go to a therapist. There had been shouting, about some sort of kleppymania thingy, her autism had been blamed even. It wasn't fair.

<I was hiding..?> Her paws shook as she signed, adding, <someone tried to take my glasses.> Fumbling around, she held up the blue sunglasses she had stolen. Avoiding their eyes, she turned and fled, returning home without glancing back to see their frantic signing, without hearing their strangled shouts after her.

She was never going to tell anyone about her glasses collection again.

prompt: Symphony is a linguistics nerd, which only half explains their secret hobby of painting rocks with sweet messages in different languages, and leaving them places. Beyond their love of languages, they appear to just be a big sweetheart. Regardless of what drives them, they've never told a soul that it's them. Everyone in their little town has seen their rocks, and only about half the time do people recognize what they even say. It's become a bit of a town mystery, nobody really knows who paints these rocks or why, they just know that if you can decode the message, it's sure to brighten your day!

Their actual reasoning for painting the rocks isn't what you would think. Yes, they love languages and they speak many, and yes, they like to make people smile, but more than anything, they like to confuse people. That sounds mean, but really they're just intrigued by the brain, and watching someone figure out their little puzzle always interests them! They went through a lot with their family when they were younger, which led to them being a bit of an oddball now, resulting in their love of linguistics and puzzles. It still doesn't quite explain why they spend their time on that of all things, but it is what it is. On top of keeping them interested, their secret hobby also never fails to put a smile on their face when someone decodes one of their messages and smiles a little because of it.

My heart was pounding as I tried to shove the skeleton into my closet. My mother was climbing up the stairs quickly, to tell me to do something, I was sure of it. We worked together as the keepers of the castle - my mother, the head maid - and if she found out I had this medical skeleton, she'd take it away immediately. I wasn't supposed to learn medicine; I was a maid, nothing more.

Oh, but I wanted so much more; I wanted to be someone who could help so many. I had talent, I knew I had the brains, so why couldn't she see? If I could just prove how smart I was and how well I could study...

I packed the skeleton away just as my mother came into my room. The attic of the maid's house was the smallest; fit for a young girl like me. "Aedhyl, you mustn't stay up so late! Go to bed, we have work in the morning!"

I'd left the candle too close to the window, I realized. I'd almost been caught today for such a silly mistake. With a quick sigh, I turned to my mother to reassure her; "I will go to bed now, I'm sorry."

She huffed in response before trudging back down to the kitchen to prepare next morning's breakfast.

I breathed in relief. My skeleton was safe and my dream, for now, would remain a hidden hobby - hidden from the prying eyes of my mother.
