I first saw them sneaking around the castle. It seemed odd, as I'd never seen them before then. They couldn't have been new, the gates have been closed forever! They were frail, and tiny.. with stunning pink eyes. I was entranced. In a second, they were gone. I spun in circles. Gone. The market was so busy, I'd never find them... until. Those eyes, to my left. I rushed forward, pushing past some snappy adults. I was determined, but as i reached the same spot; nothing. Had I just imagined them this whole time? I felt stupid. No, there they were again! Again, I pushed towards those eyes.. I came up empty handed. I grumbled to myself, this couldn't be real... Nobody could move THAT fast! Yet again, they appeared. I stared back, not moving, when i realized. That glint... They were messing with me! Not this time, I thought, slowly creeping forward. I kept my gaze locked on them, as i stalked forward. As I predicted, they bolted, down an allyway. Hah! Trapped! I ran after them, coming face-to-face... They laughed... their hood fell. Their grin... Their eyes... I decided this mysterious kalon would be my new obsession.

the sky has turned purple outside her window. the first stars are beginning to light up in the darkening night, and the moon is a sliver of silver. it's the perfect spring night, and the gentle light coming from the lamp outside sends dapples of white over her face. I shouldn't be here, of course, if Paniz finds out, she'd panic. unlike my 'family'. if you can call the crowded town orphanage that. but that's not important. I should focus on the here and the now, on what's safe and always true and never changes. like sherbert. her face, normally so perk and happy, is shrouded in a frown. that's why I'm with her. her nightmares won't stop. they never do, I'm not sure they ever will. but when she wakes, I will be here, to make her laugh and smile, to help her feel better. no matter what.
