cruciatos is a solitary but ever curious sea serpent. so while he may find comfort in familiarity, he cannot help but want to explore. perhaps it’s because he wants to make more familiar to him, and thus find more comfort; or perhaps he’s just contradictory in nature. he honestly couldn’t say for himself because both fit his personality.

on one hand he is both shy and cautious, always taking the time to double check his surroundings and fleeing at any sign of confrontation. yet, at the same time, no matter how nervous he may get, he continues to explore anyway. farther and farther, he willingly exits his comfort zone in the pursuit of knowledge and happiness. in this way he can be considered quite brave; not because he doesn’t know fear, but because he pushes his limits and continues on in spite of it.

so although his home will always be in the darkest depths of the ocean, he is seldom there for long, often wandering just for the sake of wandering. and of course, while he never strays so far as to reach the surface—too dangerous, even for his curiosity—he does from time to time swim up into the most faintly lighted waters. sometimes the allure is just too strong for him to ignore.

as a creature of the deep, his ideal underwater habitat is dark and cool. he was born to live in the darkness, from his murky eyes to the glowing markings covering his body. they provide enough light for him to see, and nothing more. and so it’s written in his nature: the further up he goes the less comfortable he is.

for one thing, the light is too bright for his sensitive eyes, nearly blinding him if not for his sense of smell. for another, the increasing warmth of the water is a far cry from the temperatures he’s used to. admittedly, he’d have to go pretty high up for him to be affected by the temperature, but to him the point stands.

finally, he also has an uncanny sixth sense for danger. logically speaking, it’s probably just a mix of his cautious nature and an inherent ability to sense vibrations in the water. personally speaking however, he has yet to find it in himself to test this ability, having reached the point where no danger means no progress. the temptation does grow every day though because he needs more safety measures in order to go further.

his hobbies include exploring, collecting unique shells, and documenting what he finds in new areas, including landmarks, plants, and species/creatures.

he likes discovering new objects, trying new foods, napping at home, and collecting things. he dislikes feeling threatened, overly sharp objects, and loud noises.

he has perhaps an unhealthy fear of being hurt, despite his size and apparent danger himself. he is especially scared of getting hurt by something sharp after being severely injured in the past from a rough shove against a rocky outcropping.
