Training Level 1: Adoption Day

Postby Ravenshadow17 » Mon May 18, 2020 2:13 pm

The Lunaria Stables, a sanctuary for Galingale Striders had only recently opened and yet we had already received a call. A mare had been spotted wandering a nearby river-side town. She appeared to be concerningly thin so a rescue mission was quickly put together. It was shockingly easy to capture and load the mare. She was all to eager to get some ear scratches. The poor thing desperately wanted affection and seemed to not even consider the option of being wary of us. Getting her into the stables and into a stall for grooming was also easy. All it took was a kind voice and the mare followed anywhere. Her sweet and earnest personality instantly tugged at my heartstrings. She was too trusting and it made me want to ensure that her trust was never broken. I decided to adopt her and named her River, after where she was found.

Training Level 2: Bonding 1/3

Postby Ravenshadow17 » Tue May 19, 2020 12:48 pm

This afternoon I went to visit River to see how she was settling into her new home. I brought her a piece of bison jerky as a treat and upon offering it to her she gobbled it right up. Before I could pull my hand away however she put her nose into my hand and gave a soft whinny. At first I was confused but when she repeated the noise I gingerly stroked her nose. That seemed to be exactly what she wanted as she just pushed her nose further into my hands. I spent at least 20 minutes giving her nose and head scratches, which she just seemed to adore. She really seems to love any affection she can get.

Training Level 2: Bonding 2/3

Postby Ravenshadow17 » Wed May 20, 2020 4:27 am

This morning I went to visit River again. When she saw me enter the stable she whinnied happily. I gave her a sugar cube and we repeated the petting session from the previous day. This might become a habit. After she was mostly satisfied with her ear scratches I opened her stall door and entered it. Grabbing a brush from the rack I began to groom her. She seemed ecstatic and I was wondering how on earth one strider had managed to get so much dirt on herself. It took me almost two hours to get all of the dirt, mud, and plants out of her fur and feathers. By the end of it, she was spotless and I looked like I had jumped into a swamp. But at least River was happy and clean.

Training Level 2: Bonding 3/3

Postby Ravenshadow17 » Fri May 22, 2020 10:39 am

This morning I let River out into the field to graze. However, as son as I turned my back she dashed over to a spot filled with dirt and started rolling around. Within seconds she was covered. I stood there in shock for a moment. It was honestly impressive that she had managed to become a mud and dirt monster so quickly. I thought about calling her back so that I could groom her but she seemed too happy. Instead I laughed and joined her, jumping into the mud. She gave an ecstatic whinny and the two of us spent the next hour chasing each other and rolling in the dirt. It was honestly worth the effort it took to clean us both up later.

Training Level 3: Halter 1/3

Postby Ravenshadow17 » Fri May 22, 2020 11:01 am

Today I started River's training. It had been about a week since I adopted her and she had happily settled into her new home. Today after her morning session of ear and nose scratches, I went and brought out the black halter I had bought for her. It was a soft leather that should be very comfortable. I showed it to her and she noised it curiously. She didn't seem to have even the slightest idea of what it was. I decided to take this slow. I would show it to her and let her nuzzle it. Then I would giver her a bit of buffalo jerky and a good ear scratch. I repeated this process a few times to help her associate good things with the halter. She responded well and I decided to repeat this process for the next few days.

Training Level 3: Halter 2/3

Postby Ravenshadow17 » Fri May 22, 2020 11:25 am

Today I started the next step in River's training. It was time to put the halter on her. At first I repeated the earlier training of simply letting her sniff it and then giving her some scratches and treats. After it was clear she was comfortable with it, I slowly placed it on her unfastened. She seemed confused but after scratching her ears and reassuring her, she settled. I gave her some more bison jerky and then started fastening the halter. Once it was done I again gave her some scratches and jerky. She seemed unsure but after getting more pets she calmed down. After about 10 minutes I took the halter off. Each day I repeated this process, each time however leaving the halter on longer. By the end of two weeks she seemed completely comfortable with it.
