Blue's two orphan calves were too cute to resist!

While these two are not a partner comp, they are sisters. Therefore they cannot at any time breed with one another nor can any of their offspring breed with one another. You are by no means required to develop them as sisters with the user owning the other sibling, this is simply for breeding purposes!

Calf One
Tell us about a single SPRING day memory she has with her sister.

Calf Two
Tell us about a single SUMMER day memory she has with her sister.

- You can only try out for one of the two sisters!
- Word limit for the main prompt is 500 words.
- You are allowed 1 extra; 1 art piece or an additional 200 words.
- You cannot use your extra to add on to the main prompt it must be separate.

Name: Maple
Gender: Heifer
Collar Color: something along the lines of the right side of this please<3
Calf Number: One
Prompt: It’s known to get exceedingly hot down south, and springtime tends to feel like summer. Unfortunately, cattle are not immune to the effects of the rising temperatures. While the farmers try their best to keep their heifers cool and comfortable, their boredom is in no way combatted. Most of the cows either lie in the shade to ruminate the day away, and some sit under fans or sprinklers, which worked fine to beat the heat. But two sisters wanted more adventure before spring turned to summer and the heat truly became too much to bear.

Maple was the shyer of the siblings. If her sister had an idea, she generally tended to follow along like a little sheep, not always thinking through the potential consequences of their actions. This summer day was no different. Maple’s sister had been closely watching the humans for weeks now, ever since the summer solstice had passed. She watched them work tirelessly all day to maintain the farm and the herds, dripping in sweat. Her keen eye had noticed that once, sometimes several times a day, if it were unusually hot, the humans would open up this mysterious, cold box and pull out some frozen treats that smelled incredibly sweet and tasty! Ever since noticing, she began to study their behavior patterns, trying to figure out the optimal time to pull of the ultimate heist.

“Alright, the humans tend to clear out around the middle of the afternoon for about 45 minutes, and then they all return. I’m not sure where they all go, but that’s our best chance at getting to whatever is in that cold box!” Maple’s sister explained to her early one morning. Maple carefully listened to her sister’s observations and instructions for how to carry out the plan, simply nodding, not thinking much about it. The two agreed that later that day, they would put their plan into action.

Maple, being the larger of the two sisters, used all her weight to break down one of the posts containing the sisters and several other cows in their pen. The duo was able to hop out of their pen and trot on over to the mysterious box. Maple held onto the handle with her mouth and yanked open the door, revealing a treasure trove of goodies. The sisters helped each other open the frozen treats, and happily chowed down on a varied assortment of ice pops.

The sisters lost track of time while they were gorging themselves, and spooked as they heard a door slam and a worker holler “HEY!”. They darted away and hopped over the fence Maple had knocked down back into their pen, but the evidence was all over their faces, the different colored ice pops staining the white patches around their mouths. Although they knew they had caused quite a bit of trouble, and that the humans were quite furious, the two sisters couldn’t help but giggle. The trouble was definitely worth the adventure.

name: alyce (ah-leese)
gender: heifer
collar color: up to the artist!
calf number: two
prompt: it was easy to remember that day of summer because it was the first time after a long and dry spring that rain had finally and mercifully fallen from the sky. as if all the water had been held and waited for this one day to fall, the valley where her humans raised her flooded. the chaos was very clear: they were simply not prepared consistently heavy rain. the crops were the first to be swept away, ripped at by the endless current of water just a few inches above the ground. between two hills and divided by a river, her valley was going to disappear in hours and she was sure her humans realized this too. they were farmers, but had no other cows. they had rescued both the calves at a young age and let them live among their sheep and goat herds. naturally, those were the first animals to be moved. alyce glanced fondly as all her friends were moved into trailers , waiting patiently for their own turn. but already they struggled to keep the vehicle out of the swirling water that had spread all over the valley. as the last vehicle drove away, alyce nudged her sister further up the hill. "come on, we can't stay here. we'll get washed away." she shuddered to think of the angry, swollen river and falling in. the two orphans trudged up the hill as quickly as they could without slipping, but their hooves were not made for mud. alyce was the most balanced of the two heifers and she helped her sister regain her footing whenever she slipped. eventually, their pursuit up the mountain was halted by a fence. too high to jump, alyce huffed and sat down. she knew it was electrocuted to keep unwanted predators away from the herds, so she couldn't force her way through either. the water rose steadily as the hours went on and her smaller sister had eventually found her way to be curled into alyce's side. she rested her head on her sister's shoulder and closed her eyes, listening to the rain. if she was not stuck between a rising, raging river and an electrocuted fence - she might have found herself rejoicing the rain. she couldn't remember the last time she had felt cool liquid against her soft fur. she was certain her ears were playing tricks on her when she heard the whine of a motor, the steady beating of an unfamiliar machine she'd never heard before. alyce nudged her sister awake. "come on, stand up. i think they're looking for us." as a great metal vehicle came out of the sky - the sky! - alyce's eyes widened. how was it flying? truthfully, she wasn't sure she cared. it mattered more to her that her humans hadn't abandoned them and were coming to rescue them. and she would get to fly, to live - which were the most memorable parts of the entire day. plus, alyce was sure she'd never go thirsty again. (500 words!)

Name: Olivia
Gender: Heifer
Collar Color: Maybe a pastel orange with white flowers/polka dots? :o whatever looks cute!
Calf Number: Two
Prompt:

Her eyes were like the sun itself.

"Liv, let's go over there, I think I see a perfect spot!"

"Coming." Taking a deep breath I followed my sister to the edge of the path, where she immediately bent down to begin scratching at the soil with a twig she had found earlier in the walk, turning over moist earth and prodding the small gravel pieces from the path out of her line of focus. Digging deeper rewarded her with a small, pink, wriggly earthworm which she snatches from the ground and places in the cup with the rest of the ones scavenged.

Fishing is more than just adjusting your sinker, casting your line and hoping for something to bite; though my sister believes otherwise, her attention more focused on the tasks at hand rather than appreciating who and what is around her in that very moment. All she knows is that when summer hits, the bass on our area are the hungriest, and she wants nothing more than to catch as many as she can to beat her previous year's goal. It's mainly all catch-and-release, to which she always brings an old middle school notebook with her to make tallies on how many fish she catches and of what variety.

After that last worm was collected, we had both headed to the pond farther back on our parent's property, sitting down and making sure our fishing rods were set up properly before casting our lines into the water and waiting. Not long had passed before I had caught my first bass, much to my sister's dismay- and then another and another. The sun had begun setting by the time our fishing trip was over, but my sister was having none of it, her poor, trembling hands gripping the pole until her knuckles were white, the look in her eyes filled with both determination and a small hint of disappointment.

"Hey, it's getting really dark, I genuinely think we should start-"

She interjected immediately. "Olivia, please, just a few more minutes." Sighing, I settle back into the grass, watching as she attempts to calm herself and focusing on the task at hand. Fifteen minutes had passed before are heard her sharp intake of breath and I jumped up at the same time she yanked back, hooking whatever was on the end of her line and fighting to reel it in. I wrap my arms around her wait to give her more support and she fights with the fish, finally bringing it to land and marveling at the Large-Mouth at the end of her line. When she finally looked back at me, my world lit up as if the sun had never set, her eyes sparkling with an unfounded sense of happiness.

Fishing. My sister may think that it's a simple task, casting, reeling, rinsing and repeating. But I truly know it isn't. It's about the memories you make, and her smile is one of mine.

Gender: Heifer
Collar Color: eye color w/ a lil white heart please!!
Calf Number: one
Prompt:
"You know this is a bad idea, right? We're so far from home!" Bea whimpered, cowering behind Colette.

"Yeah, duh!! And what about it? I'm telling you, spring is the only season this will work, we have to go now!"

The two had been walking all day, and had made their way past the south border of Mulberry Meadows, and they now stood at the mouth of a great yawning cave. Little purple crocuses had popped up around the edge, and a small trickle of water ran down into the dark, a reminder of the recently melted snow. "Are you sure we have to go... in?" Bea gulped, shuffling her hooves. The descent looked steeper than Colette had mentioned, and she was having second thoughts.

"Do you trust me? It's not as scary as it seems, and I'll be here the whole time." Colette assured, gently leaning on the other heifer.

Bea nodded anxiously, leaning back into her friend. "Fine. I trust you. Let's go."

As they ducked in, the silt shifted under their hooves, gently sliding them down the incline. They shared a frightened look as they slid down farther, eventually coming to a stop on a more solid floor. There was a soft glimmer of light farther down the tunnel, and one where they had come in, but the darkness was still looming. Without a word Colette went ahead, using her tail to guide her friend along.

Before they knew it, they were in the middle of a cathedral-like room, with a large vaulted ceiling with a hole in the center.

    Prompt:
"Now, before we get to business, I'd like to get a few things clear. I know what this sounds like - heck, if I were you I wouldn't believe me either - but I know what I saw. I'm not crazy. My sister's not crazy. Got that? Good.

Yeah, so, what you need to understand is how miserable the heat can be. Yeah, yeah, I know everyone experiences summer, but until you've spent a hot day out in the middle of nowhere with the nearest power line being a solid hour drive away then you don't know what I'm talking about. I hate the heat. I always have and I always will. It's annoying and pervasive, tainting everything it can get it's grimy little hands on like a leech on the earth itself. There's no escaping it, at least not long term, and the best one could hope for was a nice patch of shade. That meant, logically, that my sister and I spent a great deal of time in the nearby forest.

When I say a great deal I mean we knew that forest like the back of our hooves. It felt familiar and safe and as much like home as curling up next to our mother did. We knew every rock and tree and all the hidden pathways. It felt impossible to get lost in the woods. But, well, clearly, we were wrong.

We were playing hide and seek. I, as always, started out the Seeker. Things started off normally. She ran off giggling and I sat there counting to sixty, listening to the thunder of her hooves fade into the distance. I counted down and headed off, in no rush to end the game and content to wander the forest at my leisure. Except...I heard something unexpected.

My name, echoing from the trees, in a voice that was somehow familiar despite the fact I knew it belonged to a stranger. In retrospect I should've been nervous, but weirdly enough, it was almost comforting, and before I really knew what was happening, my hooves were following it.

I'm not sure how long I walked. Time felt...strange as I went deeper into the forest. And I seemed to almost lose myself if that makes sense? I forgot why I'd been in the forest in the first place. Everything felt fuzzy, but not in a way that alarmed me. At least not at first. Not until I saw Lyra.

By the time I'd reached her and the old tree my skin was practically crawling. It's bark white as ash and it's leaves an ominous red. The voice resonated out from it and at that moment I knew we were in danger. I grabbed her, dazed and confused before the tree, and ran. We never found that clearing again."
