Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.
Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sentient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.
A simple green tea babe. I love green tea flavored anything.

76heart ● lissa, the swamp witch ● female ● she/her ● 525 words
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It was rare that she ever found herself with a need to leave her hut in the swamp she called home, but now, she had found one, a most important one. Some strange corruption had begun to grow in the deepest depths of the waters; a lurking darkness that her magic sensed, and there was one final ingredient that she no longer possessed and could not obtain in time. She was out of fresh water from the crystal springs, water that sparkled like sunlight reflected upon its waves with glitters like stars dancing as if they were flames reflecting upon the gently rippling surface of the see. There was only one place she knew of where she could get it in time; the nearest tavern a few days walk from her home.
The journey took longer than she would have liked, but she was there with her supplies to make a potion of detection and that was all that mattered. She ordered the crystal spring water, specifying clearly that it could be nothing else, but her eyes strayed from the two barkeeps- one the color of cream, and the other of white and grayed reddish brown- to her surroundings, to the old wooden beams around and the odd decorations of creatures of stone that seemed to have been there for longer than the tavern itself. Her eyes also strayed from the water when she received it, too caught up in her thoughts and the urgency of mixing the potion right then and there, something she would soon learn would be an... interesting error, for if she had, she would have noticed the water was from a normal spring, and not one of crystal caverns.
Carefully, Lissa slid onto the bench of the seat furthest back, neglecting to see the stone frog statue by her feet as she set the potion up, and took all the needed ingredients she had taken out of her traveling sack.
It only took her mere moments to properly mix it up, her paws deft and practiced in working with such things, and a few moments more to realize how terribly it had gone wrong, when instead of a color change signifying it was done, a thick puff of smoke erupted from the oddly shaped vial she had mixed it in, startling her, and causing her to spill the potion on the frog she had failed to notice, along with a spare mushroom that was knocked off the table with a flailing paw.
When the smoke cleared after a moment, just as she was about to clear her lungs with a cough, she heard a very distinct, familiar sound that sounded foreign all the same, and she felt her gut twist with horror.
Oh no.
She looked down, and the sight that greeted her was certainly not the potion she needed.
At her feet, there was a stone frog, animated with life, and covered and fused with toadstools. It looked at her. Gingerly she picked it up, holding it at a distance, and cocked her head, forcing a lopsided smile.
Well, she had a familiar now. A very, very odd familiar.

I was gonna do it. Today was the day. It was time to find out what all the fuss about matcha was about.
Perhaps it wasn't the best timing, what with the place almost overflowing and the staff looking frantic, but I was here now, so might as well do it. You saw these drinks all over the place, saw matcha flavored everything on the internet. It must be pretty darn tasty judging by how much people raved about it, so I wouldn't mind jumping on the bandwagon.
When it was my turn to order I stepped up to the counter. "Hi!" I said cheerfully. "I'd like a medium of one of those green matcha drinks-" "Green?" The cashier, fumbling around with cups, repeated distractedly. "Um, yeah. With whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles." They looked up then, giving me an odd look. "Really?" I blinked. "Um-" I wasn't sure how to react. Were you not supposed to have it like that? Did I do something wrong? But they'd already walked off, my questionable order with them.
I hovered near the serving counter, idly scrolling through my phone until my order was ready. I managed to stutter out a thank you before picking it up warily and taking a seat at one of the tables. I stared over at the staff for a moment, before looking back at the unappealing drink in front of me.
This...this could not be matcha.
It looked like colored water. The whipped cream was dissolving weirdly in the green liquid. I took a hesitant sip and screwed up my face. Gagged slightly when I got a mouthful combined with the topping.
This was green tea. Green tea and whipped cream.
I let out a sigh, resting my head in my hand. No wonder I'd gotten such an odd look. They didn't hear the word matcha - they just heard green. An honest mistake, but I wasn't keeping this. No, I needed a replacement. I glanced over at the counter, where a line was still growing. I'll just...wait until it quietens down.
Half an hour later, when the line had gone down and the two who'd taken my order and made my drink were able to take a moment, I plucked up the courage to walk over. "Hi," I began awkwardly. "Um, so, you got my drink wrong. I wanted matcha, not green tea."
The cashier blinked. "Oh! You meant that green!" They rubbed the back of their neck, letting out an embarrassed laugh. "Thought your order was a bit odd." "We were gonna add it to the bizarre order list," the other added.
I wasn't angry for the mix up - how could I be? They'd obviously been busy, and more than happy to replace my drink. I waved to them as I left, rounding a corner before taking a sip.
Oh.
Probably best not to let them know that matcha wasn't much to my taste either.
I sighed. I'll just stick to my usual next time.

Mint had been waiting for a while on her order... and it was very simple. On top of that, it was free because she was here to study for her atmospheric physics test. As an aspiring climate scientist, it was very important to her and she needed to pass it. To get into the university she wanted to, she needed to get an A.
Pausing in her frantic typing and scribbling things down on a piece of paper, she cleared her throat. "Hey, can I get that glass of water I asked for?" Mint yelled at one of the employees behind the counter.
The first one, a girl with cream-colored fur and a kitty clip in her hair, approached her with a glass and set it down on top of a napkin by her laptop. Mint cringed and pushed her laptop further away. She was afraid that the girl would accidentally knock the water onto her computer. But that wasn't the only thing wrong.
She stared at the glass and blinked. It was a glass of water... but it had a lemon slice in it, and it was filled to the brim with ice. Water was spilling over. "I asked... for a glass of water with no lemon and light ice... How could you mess that up?"
The boy, a kalon with dark fur and pink attire, exploded from behind the counter, yelling, "See, Shi Lin?! I told you that she wanted the exact opposite of what you were putting in her drink." The girl turned to glare at him and opened her mouth to fire back a retort, but Mint stopped her by poking her in the arm.
"Hey, can you just... get me a simple glass of plain water this time? And make it quick," she snapped and handed her the glass.
