The lioness huffed in the silence of the night. She had made it to the top of the stairs that now stretched long behind her. But her eyes were not focused on what was past but what lay before. She had made it after years of preparation and research, now the temple sat right in front of her. The tops of the trees did not reach this far up, but their leaves swayed softly below her as the nocturnal animals made their ways through them. She lowered her eyes from the top of the dome to the door way, and headed for it. Once inside the sound of her footsteps echoed softly through the dark, the only indication that there were boundaries in the pitch black room. Soon, however, moonlight shined through a hole in the ceiling, onto a pedestal. On the flat stone that jutted from the ground rose a stone flower. The lion knew what she had to do and pressed her nose to the petals. Just as soon as she had done it the flower glowed and morphed into a small dragon. But the lioness was not surprised and stood quietly, letting the dragon speak first before she said anything to it. The dragon's voice was soft and the moonlight reflected off of her smooth back and wings, "you have come to see if you are worthy?" The lion nodded without a word and the dragon seemed pleased. "Then look no further, for you are exactly that. Come closer." The lion was shocked but did as the dragon instructed. "You are now Griselda, the one that fights in darkness. I shall award you a sword which shall be like a flame to fight evil and used to light your path." Then the dragon stepped back and turned back into the stone flower. The lioness whispered quietly to herself, "I am Griselda, fighter in darkness." She had a new purpose in life and a new calling. She would do that job proudly and wisely. She would not one to let anyone down, not even the stone dragon.
