lonnie planned for weeks, months even, for halloween. the best time of the year. their time of the year. they had been preparing for their best friend's costume contest, which they entered every year. lonnie always ended up second place, but this year, they were going to crush the competition. they'd scoured craft stores, party stores, general stores, and every store in between for all the pieces they needed for their costume this year. they were going to go. all. out. they needed hydraulic pieces, plastic panels, vampire fangs, liquid latex... this was a halloween costume for the ages. they painstakingly pieced together all the parts they needed, crafting a set of impressive wings, complete with hydraulic movement (an idea they had taken from some neat looking cosplay videos). they carefully applied liquid latex to their fur and their gummi belly, sculpting it into the shape of thick scales. they glued the vampire fangs into place, and gave their mouth a few good chomps just to be sure. with a final dusting of shimmery magenta pigment, lonnie's costume was complete. they stared into their mirror with awe. the didn't recognize themself under the dragon guise. it was clearly put together by an amateur, but rudimentary or not, they were sure to finally take first place at the contest tonight!
