Nantang comes from a unique lineage of more hunter-like species of Qilin rarely sighted. A valley contains their herd where they only hunt small rabbits and other rodents, and while they are fierce protectors, they are quite peaceful towards outsiders. Their unique features evolved in the isolation of the herd when the rocky cliffs collapsed and trapped them within their valley with little vegetation to sustain a herd and a river in the middle. Over time, they started by trying to eat the fish in the river, but with few that came through, they turned to the rodents and hardy roots they could dig up.
