Although descended from a line of champions, Aloysia never knew the luxurious and frivolous life of a show dog; her black markings had seemed to mark her, and the humans who cared for her litter feared that this would ruin their kennel, renowned for the perfection of their dogs. It was evident, to them, that this pup must have further problems, ones which they could not have tainting their reputation.
Hidden from any prospective owners, the small pup was barely weaned when the breeders left her at the pound. A mutt that they had found on the street, they had claimed, as she cowered away from the barks and whines of the cages. A pity, but they could not take her in.
As she lay in the dark corner, her mind could think of nothing but her family. She remembered their warmth, and their love; how they had always been there. Now alone, she couldn't help but flinch as the cages around her rattled, the strange dogs trying to claw their way out. She had been close to sleep when the door to her enclosure creaked open, and foreign hands wrapped around her. One moment, Aloysia had been whimpering in a cage and, in the next, she was being driven to a new home on a pile of soft blankets.

As an adult, Aloysia serves as a foster sibling for other orphaned pups; her owner brings them home, timid and weak, sometimes malnourished from life on the streets. However, after spending time with this gentle and affectionate Boer, they go on to find their own homes and families, playful and cheerful. She never forgets them, though, and some of her adopted siblings even get to visit her from time to time.

During the days where there are no pups to care for, Aloysia spends much of her time in the garden. It is peaceful there, and she can simply lie down in the sunlight, without a care. Though she loves company, this space makes her feel content to be with just herself.
The fresh grass is soft under her paws, and there are always songbirds nearby to listen to. In the warmer seasons, colourful butterflies occupy the blooms of flowers, and the sweet scent of the roses fills the air.

Someone familiar...
It was late autumn when she first saw the other Boer; alone in the garden, admiring the blaze of leaves scattered across the ground, she had caught sight of a flash of white fur, just beyond the bushes. Aloysia had seen many other dogs walking past the fence with their owners, but this one had caught her attention: why, though, she couldn't say. She watched curiously as the pair halted, the owner turning to talk to some passerby. This was her chance!
She trotted over to the fence, squeezing behind the bushes so that she could look from between the iron stakes. There, before her, sat a dog adorned in brown and white curls, just like her; the same long ears, and short tail.
The Boer gently sniffed the air as the breeze wound through his fur. Aloysia couldn't help but stare as he turned to face her, suddenly surprised at what he saw.
"Sister!" he yelped happily, dragging his owner around as he tugged at the lead. The humans had been surprised, too, watching as the two dogs bounced around opposite one another, tails wagging, yapping and barking.
It seemed that the Boers' owners were going to be meeting quite soon, then.
