Story: It was a dull, gloomy evening. Wren was just a newly weaned filly, shaggy and filthy in her winter coat. She'd been pulled from the pasture and herded unceremoniously into the rickety metal trailer that now rattled around her. The youngster was afraid- all alone with nothing to protect her from the noise and vibration except a fairly light dusting of straw and the rubber mats on the floor. Her ears twitched wildly with anxiety that only got worse when it began to rain.
Relief didn't even come when the trailer finally clattered to a stop. The smells were strange, and the ozone in the air from the storm didn't help either. She was led out by a stranger whose face she couldn't see and led through the pouring rain to a quiet, warm barn. The halter was slid from her face and hung up, then she was left alone. Or so she thought. A pile of straw shifted in the corner, much to Wren's alarm. Thankfully, it was only another filly. One not much older than herself. The white, mottled and speckled filly's leather halter revealed her name-
Dyna.
Not much vocal communication occurred between the two, mainly due to Dyna's muteness, but they bonded nonetheless. After all of the fear and stress from being moved so suddenly away from her dam and old home, Dyna was a heavensend. The sabino filly stuck by Wren's side during the bay's adjustment period and gave her all of the socialization and affection she craved. Before long the pair was inseparable. They were trained together, groomed together, stalled together. Both would show signs of anxiety when apart for too long. Luckily, both were trained in dressage and the striking difference in their coats intrigued judges when they performed as a pair. They were called the "Blue Eyed Dancers" in shows by their fans. Miraculously, they never developed a rivalry. Even years later, they still remained as close as when they were fillies. They still slept together, groomed together, grazed together, performed together.
When Wren suffered a leg injury that ended her dressage career, the decision was made to retire Dyna alongside her. They were only in their teens, so once the bay had recovered, both were employed for light riding by the stable hands and visitors to the stable. Always together, never apart. Even after retirement, they remained beloved by their fans, who visited them even on the stormiest days while they laid together in the same barn where they first met, lazily dozing in the warm straw and soft yellow lights.
