Taming Journal 1:
First Encounter: Unsure, Tossed food out for them. word count: 232 words
It was a fairly quiet evening. I had set out to bring Amura and Lupo back from their day in the field. We have an open range for them to run, having gained their trust enough to know they wont wander too far from home. Opening the gate I made my treck in, feed bucket in place to reward them for coming back. After a few calls, I heard lupo call back to me. Following the direction of the noise found them staring at something far off in the field. Upon closer inspection I saw it was a muddy horse.
At first I was unsure. I mean seeing him from afar, covered in mud. It was a little scary. Lupo alerted me to the newcomer. Followed by Amura stomping at the ground. He was a muddy stallion, about as big as Lupo, but I couldn't see his colors. I was worried for my Mustangs, being the owner of course. I carefully stepped away from Lupo and Amura and moved to my feed bucket, gently grabbing a handful of feed and carrots and tossing it on a rock a yard away from him. The Muddy Mustang watched me carefully, ears pinned back. Before turning away and trotting back out into the field. Amura, Lupo and I watched him go, wondering if we'd see him again.
Taming Journal 2:
Second Encounter: Wary, Noticed Amura Settling word count: 231 words
It had been a few weeks since the last i had seen of the muddy stallion. Lupo and Amura were looking for him every day, probably wondering if he was coming back. Lupo was resting in the stables, recovering from a minor accident with the gate that nicked his chest. Amura was out on her own today, since i wanted to check Lupo's stiches and make sure he was healed enough to go back out. I heard Amura make a fuss over at the gate so i reluctantly left lupo in his stall and went to see what was bothering her.
She nickered and led me out into the field. I thought she had found where in the gate Lupo lost his battle with, but i noticed the mustang was back. Amura was able to get a good 6 feet from him without startling him, having brought over an apple from the trough to give to him. I noticed her body language, she wasn't afraid of him or trying to ward him off. Rather she was calm and trusting of him. Slowly i approached, wondering if i could get as close. But i couldn't. Once i came too close the stallion backed away and trotted quickly up the hill. Sighing i patted Amura on the neck, gave her a sugar cube from my pocket and went back to check on Lupo.
Taming Journal 3:
Third Encounter: Calm, Lupo Trusted Them word count: 343 words
Lupo had headled from his battle with the gate a few days after Amura and I met with the stallion again. I had come to call him "Yuna" after deciding to name Amura, Amura. I felt it was a sweet name, since not once did Yuna attempt to hurt me, Amura or Lupo. It was an early morning this time, since i was behind on a few chores and needed to get them done. Amura was still sleeping in her stall so I let Lupo out and let her rest. Lupo reluctantly went out by himself and allowed me to open the gate for him. I had gone back into the barn to clean his stall when I heard him whinny. Amura had woken with a start, geared up for a battle, but settled when she saw I was there.
I let Amura out of her stall and followed her into the field. Lupo had wandered farther into the field, which was unusual since i hadn't fed him yet. But coming over the hill i noticed why. There, Standing a few feet from Lupo was Yuna. At first i was nervous since Lupo was generally protective of Amura and I, especially when it was at first light. But i noticed Lupo wasn't being aggressive at all, he was calmly watching Yuna without making any fast movements. Amura trotted up to Lupo's side, nickering softly. I guess she was trying to let lupo know he could eat breakfast with them. After a short moment, Yuna looked at me and flicked his ears.
Carefully he stepped up to me and sniffed at my coat. I didn't make any moves to startle him, but i knew he could smell the sugar cubes in my coat pocket. We locked eyes and i could see him studying me before snorting and turning away. I wanted to touch him but i didn't, knowing very well he wasn't tame. Carefully I stepped out of the way and watched him trot back over the hill and off further into the field.
Taming Journal 4:
Fourth Encounter: Happy, I could touch him and hive him a cube! word count: 377 words
It was nearing the start of the warm season, and it was becoming harder and harder to work out in the heat. Amura and Lupo enjoyed messing around by the water trough and barrels, always trying to splash each other. I had just finished cleaning both of their stalls and refilling their feed troughs when i heard one of them whinny and trot to the gate. Unsure of what was going on i put down my pitchfork and shovel and walked to the gate. Amura was covered in water, and lupo was watching something in the distance. Looking over Amura's shoulder i saw Yuna walking up to us carefully.
I could tell he looked drained, with the heat it's hard to keep cool. The field closer to the barn had lots of shade and lots of places for water to keep cool. So i knew it must have looked enticing. Smiling I dug my hand into my pocket and pulled out some sugar cubes. I had to push Amura's face away so she didn't eat them. Coming into the field I made sure Yuna saw me interact with Lupo and Amura. Amura was pleased to get a sugar cube and event pulled on my hair a little for more. Lupo came over at my soft whistle and i rewarded him with a pat and a cube.
Yuna was watching me suspiciously, but came over to sniff my hand. I realized he must have remembered the smell of the cubes and wanted to try one. Smiling i opened my palm, offered it to him, and waited. At first Yuna was unsure of what i was trying to do, hesitant as always. But after a few moments of silence i felt him take the cube from my hand and back away. His response had me smiling. He trusted me! carefully I patted amura on the neck, making sure Yuna saw and reached to pat his. After a small flinch he allowed me to pet his neck and give him another cube. After a few more days, we began to see much more of him. and even now he was playing with Amura and Lupo in the water! Now all that needed to be done was cleaning that muddy mustang!

Bath Time!:
Bathing Yuna Was Fun! He Enjoyed It word count: 351 words
I was very excited. While it was a hot day and i was starting to slow down on my chores, It was a special day. Yuna was going to get his bath! It had to be hard, walking around with layers upon layers of mud on you, but I was determined to fix that!
I let Yuna to the paddock and set to work. I was able to get him used to running water and the brush earlier on so it wouldn't be too much of a surprise for him. Carefully i set to gently getting his coat wet, to make the mud looser and easier to come off. Once his coat was wet i took a soft cloth and started to wipe some of the thinly layered mud off of his coat. Most of it came off with ease, but there were some large clumps i had to work on. I applied as little pressure as possible as to not irritate his skin, and soon most of it was off, leaving a dirty brown coat.
Smiling I turned and grabbed the horse shampoo from the bucket and set to work on covering him with suds. Turning the hose spray to a gentler setting, i started to wash his mane, ears and body to remove the last remnants of mud. Yuna at this point was enjoying this, being astonishingly calm for his first bath time. Once his coat was clean i moved to get a brush to brush out the mats in his mane gently. Once the mats were gone i gave his mane a quick trim and started to try him off with a soft towel.
After a good 5 minuets i moved him into the sun to trim his hooves and check his teeth to make sure they were in good shape. Amura and Lupo came over and nickered at Yuna as if to say the loved his new look. I gave them all a sugar cube and let them go off into the field to play while i cleaned up. And beleive me, he was one Muddy Mustang!
