// Task 1; Unloading
This mare earned her name through unloading. She refused to exit the trailer when the doors swung open, giving everyone who looked at her dirty looks. She hid her foal behind her, letting out nervous and anxious whinnies. When someone tried to coax her out, she decided to rush them, barrelling out and nearly knocking them over in the process. Her foal, on the other hand, trotted out, glancing around at everyone while staying loyally by his mother's side. However, Heathen wasn't done with her handlers. She rushed the rest of her handlers until they were all out of the pen, and bit at anyone nearby. There, she earned her name; "Absolute Heathen."

// Task 2; Taming

You think it's easy to tame this mare? Think again! She wouldn't let humans near her for weeks, rushing and biting when needed. She was becoming a quick danger to others, and someone had to do something. It ended up being Cole, the spoiled rich boy, that would end up taming her. He was a scaredy cat when it came to horses, however, when attempts of friendliness were refused from Amelia, he was the next one on the chopping block.
When she rushed him from the fence, he, shakily, held his ground, and let her whinny and snort and nip all she wanted at him, until she realized that he wasn't moving. Furious, she stomped her foot and yelled at him again. Still nothing. This went on for a few moments before she lost interest and trotted off. Or so it would seem.
When he tried to get closer, she stared at him, and when he stepped foot in the pen, she rushed him again. This time, however, she did not bite, nor did she hurt him; just hold him close to the gate, eyeing him up. When she realized he wasn't a threat, it was only then that she allowed him to stay.

// Task 3; Introducing The Herd
Around the time that Heathen was being introduced to the herd, Tempest had just had her first foal. A spitfire of a foal, Tempest Song, as the filly was called, was nosey, and curious, and she wasn't afraid to speak her mind. One night, she snuck into the pen where Heathen and her colt were waiting, and, interesting things happened. Heathen attempted to scare her, however, that didn't go over well. Tempest Song just...couldn't be scared. She was a scareless filly. Sure she ducked to avoid the snapping jaws at her, however, she let out a whinnying laugh at her and just raced around the pen. When Tempest discovered what was happening, she raced to their fence and tried to scream at Heathen. However, Tempest Song was just toying with her.

When Heathen realized that Tempest Song wouldn't cause a threat to her, she got impatient with her and turned to ignore her. However, her foal seemed to enjoy Tempest's company, and the two hit it off. Eventually, Amelia came in to separate them all, but, for that soft moment, the mare was able to bond with one of the members of the herd. Or maybe just her foal.

// Task 4;
Heathen and her foal were absolutely filthy. That much was true. Amy was passing the torch of care on to Cole, who had to man up sometime and face his fears. However, Heathen perhaps ONLY trusted Cole to be even remotely near her. It was a long process; he had to approach her first, and touch her first, and that took a LONG time. However, eventually, he was actually able to brush her for a few moments; before he was chased from the pen. Still, it was a start.

// Task 5;
Dude, we couldn't even get her to get brushed and you wanna bathe her? Fine, fine. If you insist. Cole didn't know how he was gonna do it, but he had a bucket of water, a sponge, and not a lot of high hopes for this interaction. He tried talking to the mare as he approached, letting her know he didn't mean well. She was NOT having it. She knew what was up, and avoided him at all costs. Eventually, he ended up tripping, falling, and spilling soapy water all over her and her foal.
Aaaaand that's about as much bathing as she was gonna let him do for a while.

// Task 6;
Fully tamed. You think a mare like this can be really tamed? Eh, fine...Cole will do his best. Cole was used to being handed pretty ponies already fully tamed to him. He wasn't ready to accommodate for wild, untamed horses, but he worked for Amelia and was required to help around all the time. Frustrated with his lack of progress for Heathen, the guy sat outside, nearly on tears. He wasn't used to actually /failing/ at something. He was a successful three-day-eventer, he had gold in many classes of dressage, and yet, he couldn't bond with a single mare.
A small nudge at the small of his back. Cole turned. Lucifer was looking up at him with glowing eyes, a spooky grin on his skulled features. Cole jumped back, startled. Heathen trotted over, nickering to Lucifer and nudging her behind him. Heck, was Cole crying? Yes, he definitely was crying.
Heathen walked over him, nosing and taking in the sight she had seen. Slowly, she nudged his chest with her head, letting out a soft nicker. Tentatively, Cole reached up, and gave her neck a pat, and she didn't fight him on it for once. He slowly sat up, giving her a hug, which, to the surprise of everyone, she accepted.

// Task 7;
After that bonding moment, Heathen was very loyal to Cole; she trusted him, and he trusted her. So, thus began the training. Cole wanted to halter her; Heathen, trusting that Cole wouldn't hurt her, allowed it. However, she didn't enjoy being lead, at least, with a proper lead. However, Cole actually managed to lead her without one. He'd leave the lead fully slack and just click with his fingers, and she would follow.

//Task 8;
After getting her to follow his lead, groundwork was pretty easy for Cole. He was an English Jumper at his finest, so he started working her on that, leading her over small ground poles. It was definitely engaging and enriching for the horse who hadn't known a whole lot her life, and every new thing she met with excitement, rather than fear. Cole was proud of the horse she was becoming.

//Task 9;
Cole waited until Lucifer was going to be weaned in order to ride her; however, he could start her on the saddlepads and bridles right away. She also wasn't keen on a bridle, however, with enough coaxing from Cole, she accepted it. The saddlepad was slid onto her, and he just put gentle pressure on her back, getting her used to it. She bucked the first few times, sidestepping away, and that took a long time to really get her to stand still. But who could blame her? She's a Heathen.

Foal Training
Gain Trust;

Shortly after fully bonding with Heathen, Cole was able to approach Lucifer. Lucifer was an entirely different Grelificent than his mother. He was timid, at least, at first, but he was very, very curious about the world around him. At first, Heathen had to hover around Cole and Lucifer, making sure that her precious colt wasn't going to be harmed. Over time, however, as she trusted Cole more, she allowed him to get close to Lucifer, and actually pet, and interact with him.

Approach The Foal;
The first time Cole tried to approach the foal, it did not go well. Lucifer wanted nothing to do with him, and neither did Heathen. He got dirt kicked up into his face a lot, and it was overall very unpleasant for everyone involved.

The second time Cole tried to approach the foal, he managed to coax him and his mother with food. Lucifer, honestly, just stole the food and then hid behind his mother once more. Cole thought it was still some progress though.

By the third time around, Lucifer knew that Cole wasn't really a threat to him, so he was starting to trust him. However, he wasn't going to just lay down and take whatever. Cole approached him with a brush; it was grooming time. Lucifer kept avoiding him, using his nimble little legs to avoid him. When Cole falls into the dirt again, Lucifer casually just laughs at him from the side, stealing the brush and running off with it. UUUUGH.

After Cole bonded with the mother, and Lucifer started being weaned, Cole got a lot more one on one time with Lucifer, and the two of them had an interesting relationship. Cole eventually got to pet him one day, when Lucifer had his first taste of hay. While he was eating, Cole ran a hand over the horse's dirty coat, and, Lucifer tolerated it. Once.
But. IT was progress. And progress is better than nothing!
