Story: As a foal, Malaika was quite mischievous. One night, she decided to escape from the stable. It was a dark, silent night. She backed up in the large stall, readying herself to leap over the door. Her heart was racing. Tonight was the night. She galloped at full speed towards the door and leapt bravely, expecting to crash into it hopelessly. But what she felt was wind blowing past her head and solid ground. She had made it over! She whinnied happily, relishing in her accomplishment. She bolted towards the barn doors and kicked them open, as she had seen others try. It worked! She cantered out and breathed in the fresh air, a breeze ruffling her short, fluffy mane. She galloped towards the field where she had seen the humans take the older horses for rides, unsure of what she'd find. When she made it she saw a herd of horses, seemingly wild, galloping loudly through the field. She raced after them, hoping they were nicer than some of the horses at the stable. She heard a neigh of alarm from a horse near her and the herd slid to a stop. A large stallion, most likely the head of the herd, trotted over, snorting and throwing his head back in a threatening way until he saw that Malaika was only a foal. "What are you doing here, young one?" The stallion asked, reaching his head down towards her. "I-I just escaped from the b-barn, the horses there are mean." Malaika replied, her voice laced with fear of what they may do to her. "Hm, we've only seen the fastest, strongest horses get out of there, and there are few of them that actually make it so far before being taken back, sometimes worse. You must be very clever then, young one." She raised her head in pride. "I am! I'm the most clever foal of them all!" He snorted in amusement and flicked his tail back and forth. "Then how would you like to join us, young one?" "Really?! I'd love to! Oh, and my name is Malaika!" "Well, Malaika, we need to get moving or we're going to get captured." He cantered back to the front of the herd, leaving Malaika with the horses behind him.

"Come on, Storm! The herd's in trouble!" Malaika snorted with impatience. He was so slow! She decided to canter off without the colt, his snail speed getting on her nerves. She galloped away towards the field where she had met the herd that night, neighing in alarm at the sight. Humans had ropes around her herd-mates necks, yanking them away, foals being separated from their dams, horses bucking and rearing to no avail. She galloped into the fray, her heart pounding with fear. She couldn't go back, not after she had been gone for so long. She reared as a horse ran in front of her, a human trailing behind them. The human threw a rope around Malaika's neck, causing her a great panic. She reared and bucked, attempting to hit the man, but failing desperately. She felt more ropes being thrown onto her, slowly tugging her away. "No!" She hollered hopelessly. No one would save her. She had been put in a stall, close to the one she had been in as a foal, but this one was larger. She stood, waiting. Hoping. Just then, a girl came in with a man and they stood in front of her stall, looking at Malaika. The girl edged closer. "What about her? She's stunning!" The girl said. The man nodded, "Alright." he said, looking at Malaika. Then another man came over and opened the door, grabbing a rope. He warily walked over to Malaika, the rope in hand and watching her closely. She stood still, knowing that if she caused trouble there would be consequences. He attached the rope to her halter and pulled her out. He led her out of the barn and into a trailer, where she stood for a while as she was driven to a new barn. A new home.
