Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Their shining tails are used for identification and showing off,
which is helpful when spotting another Kalon from afar. This
association with other Kalons is why they are head-over-heels
for any shiny or colorful item that they come across!

here's my staff kalon! i hope you guys like it :> my chosen palette was color fog

I am never lost cause I can see the future through my eyes, I am never scared cause my heart is always strong, and I am never weak for my mind is beyond any reach...

username: Dreamlight

kalon name: Wysteria

personality: She is quite a shy one, never can tell what’s on her mind. She doesn’t talk much but deep in her eyes you know there is something beyond her but if you ever get to know her she might open up to you, showing the caring philosopher girl within her that she is buried beneath the sorrow and pain she . Her heart is always in the right place but something it’s hard to notice. She will seem to be alone but she is never lonely for the forest is part of her.

short story: We often will forget to ever take things for granted, sometimes we are blinded by it and never full appreciate it. We all start like that, even I did. Growing up I lived in the mountains, it may seem isolated to a first glance but after living there all my life it really is a burst of energy everywhere. Never did I feel alone, I remember the mountains in the first crack of dawn. It welcomed me and was full of surprises even after knowing the place so well. It’s like we knew each other and could understand each other. Nothing was better then to walk through the forest, listening to the birds, the damp moss underneath, and the slight chill tingling in the air filled me with energy between the growing trees. Everyone that lived by were like family to me and to the smallest of critters were my friends. We all had a gift, mine was sight. I could see within anything and everything. I had the power to see things way far-away and could zoom in my vision. It was always crystal clear and I appreciated it every day. It was our blessing from the forest that protected us all.

I loved the forest with all my heart, if you look through my perspective it was our home and part of me. Outside the forest and mountain range the world was changing, colors fading and life dying. The forest was enchanted to keep us safe but over time we simply enjoyed our life here. We never wandered outside and for that we were never warned.

It hit like a lightning, one day the atmosphere changed almost like the forest was warning us. I remember scanning the area while my two good friends, Amarylis and Everest used their gifts. Sound and language. Amarylis listened for any disturbance and Everest warned the creatures and instructed them to spread the word. It was nothing like we had ever faced, at the horizon a bluish hazy clouds creeped at the edge of the forest in the distance. Lightning struck within it, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the energy of the forest wouldn’t be able to hold it back any longer so we ran as fast as we could to warn everyone we could to get the safety. I ran like I never could sounding the alarm, listening to it echo as others continued it. Ok now where to hide, I thought as calm as I could. I lost track of the others and the clouds came with no mercy. Underneath where it had spread the forest faded instantly wilting and turning grey. I could see it’s path, how fast and the direction. I went to the only place I knew could keep me safe. At the center was an evergreen tree, I had always been drawn to it and hid there as a young Kalon. Brushing my hair back I leapt over the stream and under the huge tree. Beneath its roots was a crevice where I squeezed in, leading to my hiding place. A small compartment lying under the tree next to its trunk. I felt reassurance placing my paw against the tree. It would be alright. I focused on my vision, I could see through things sometimes but that required a lot of energy to go that far so closing my eyes I took a deep breath and opens my eyes. Yes I could see through the dirt and saw the fog coming in, it had already taken a great deal of the forest and I could slmost feel it’s pain, making my heart cry but I knew I had to stay strong. Then I could feel the fog coming in, the chill and the feeling of all life surrendering. I braced myself for anything, curling up and tucking my hair in but then a I could hear a soft melody from the tree. Surprised I slightly lifted by head up to see the whole tree was glowing like it was fighting back. Lending my strength I place both of my paws on the trunk instinctly. I could feel and electric buzz traveling through me between tree and me. With a blast of energy knocking me back it wiped out the fog but not fast enough before the fog had surrounded me for a second which sent a shock of pain through me, I cried out and limped against the floor. I felt numb, my eyelid heavy and everything hurt. Opening my eyes I couldn’t see, I panicked but I was too weak to move but deep down I knew what it meant, I was alive by some miracle but now I was blind.

kalon name: Vuori
personality:

Pretty calm now (He's 29 now, was 23 when the story took place), use to be really angry and had to avoid situations in order to keep his cool and not yell at people. He's an understanding and accepting guy, just sorta sad at the world and it's harshness.

Small things:

- Down-to-earth
- Calm
- Friendly
- Probably needs a hug every now and then

short story:

Vuori unpacked some of the newer shipments out of the box, and set them up on the shelf.
The yarns had been marked for him, so when he touched the specific grooves on each one he knew what they were, and the color.
Yarns were also marked by brand and fabric, so he could sort them into color, brand, and material.
He was thankful his boss marked them so he could work, being blind wasn’t easy when it came to working a crafts store.

But he managed, and his coworkers were happy to help him if he needed it.
After a few more minutes of stacking, with the box almost empty (his paw pads had brushed against the bottom), he heard the chatter of multiple people, and the bell at the door ringing.
He turned to where they were, and tried to make himself visible (the shelf hid him more than he liked).
“Hello! Welcome to Ben’s Craft Store, anything you’re looking for or need help with?”
He could tell now that there were at least four people from the sounds they made, maybe even more?

“Oh, we’ve got it! Just browsing to see if anything catches our eye.” “Okay, have fun!”
As Vuori returned to his stocking, he could hear them talking more clearly now, the voices indicating at least six people now.
And they were talking about him and his eyes.

“Man, did you see his eyes?”
“Do you think he’s blind?”
“Why would they let him work here if he was blind?”
“Poor thing.”
“They look really strange.”
“Almost ugly…”
“What, no, I think they’re pretty!”

They all continued arguing and talking, now mostly focused on the items in the store, but a couple of them still on the topic of his eyes.
Vuori quickly emptied the box, and went to the back to put it away, trying to ignore the tourists chatting in the store.

He broke down the box after scurrying into the room, breath uncomfortably fast, fingers shaking.
He was angry at them, and he needed to keep his cool.
It wasn’t their fault his eyes looked ugly and milky now, and that he was blind (someone had described his eyes to him at one point).
Although he thought they could at least talk about his eyes later, but then again they all seemed young, so he tried to excuse it.
Vuori sat down on the faded old couch, and tried to keep his emotions in check while his paws shook.

He was fine.
The accident was over a year ago.
These people didn’t know any better.
He needed to get over it.
He needed to have thicker skin.
He couldn’t lose his job.
These people didn’t know any better.
The accident was over a year ago.
He was fine.

Vuori had finally managed to convince himself he was in a better place, and went to the cash register.
The door opened, and a flamboyant voice rang out.
“I am heeeerrrre!” Oh, it was one of his coworkers, Nahiko, coming in for his shift to take Vuori’s over. “Do you mind ringing these customers up?” “Anything for you darling!” Nahiko guided him out of his spot, and rang up the customer that was ready.
“Go home now dear, you look like you need it!” He nodded, facing where he heard Nahiko’s voice come from. “Thank you.” He murmured, going towards the back to change as Nahiko called out a goodbye to him.

He got out of his work clothes as quickly as he could, grabbed his cane, and trudged down the path to the misty forest ahead. Vuori’s fingers still shook slightly, heart still raced, and his head still swarmed like an angry beehive.
His cane was patrolling the ground ahead of him for twisting roots, but it still could not save his boots from clipping a root, causing him to catapult to the ground.

He gasped as the breath was knocked out of him, chin smashing into the root, tongue almost bitten off by sharp teeth, cane knocked out of his paw. He lay there in anger for a moment, a pure, unbridled rage forming at himself and the world.
Then he got up onto his knees and paws, searched for his cane, and tried to calm down. He didn’t really calm down, but it was better than the white hot rage he felt a moment before.
Finally confirming the object in his paw was not a very smooth stick or a very sleepy slash dead snake and indeed was his cane, he rose to his full height, and continued down the path.

Vuori focused on his surroundings in an attempt to feel better and control his rage, but at the same time, it just made it worse. Using his other senses seemed to confirm even more that he was blind, and what that blindness implied.
The woods were misty, and the air smelled of earth and plants more so than usual.
The air around him was also very humid, so it must have rained recently, if the mud squishing under his boot was any indication of that (and had gotten on him in his fall).

Eventually his cane knocked against a familiar rock, and he crouched down to feel it to confirm it was indeed what he was looking for.
Yup, that familiar smooth gauge in the side made by his uncle to let him know he was at the right place.
He turned right, and held out one paw as he walked forward.
After his cane knocked into the tree, paw feeling the rough bark and part of the wood planks nailed into the side, he sighed in relief.

He was at the hunting blind his uncle used and use to bring him along into.
Although now his uncle was less of a hunter, had moved, and was trying to support his sister, who was his mother.
Plunging the cane upright and into the mud, he kicked off his boots, and climbed up the planks.
He felt the flat boards of the floor when he put his paw up to reach the next plank, he pulled himself up, and crawled into the small blind.

It was dark, cool, and dry, as he could tell from the air that was brushing against his fur and skin.
Vuori sat down, legs sprawled out, as he leaned against the exposed tree bark inside the blind.
So many memories of this place swirled in his head, and so did the accident.
He closed his eyes, and allowed the hissing rage to flow, letting his emotions out as he thought about the accident.

He’d been working in the lab, coding another one of his many projects on his laptop.
Many robots, car parts, half finished projects, computers, wires, and old trophies surrounded him, with a few people bustling in the school lab as well.
It was quiet, which was exactly what he liked about the lab.
Oh, seemed like another bug had popped up as he checked his work.
He started to fix it, only to see a figure trip on a wire out of the corner of his eye, and a project someone was working on in front of him explode, sending shrapnel everywhere.

He couldn’t remember much else, only that the shrapnel had hit him in the head.
The pain had been excruciating, and he barely registered anything else, before he blacked out.
Apparently people had been screaming around him, and he had been whacked in the stomach with another piece of shrapnel, but he didn’t remember that.
The shock had made it so he ignored everything else around him.

He curled up onto the wooden floor, lying down as more memories came to him, rage and sadness took over completely, almost sending him into a haze.

His career with computers was gone, the doctors had told him.
He could never see again, could never see what he was typing again.
His career was dead before it had even begun, his teachers had told him he was one of the greatest students they ever had there. Only for that dream to die, and all the promise his eyes brought gone.

His uncle had disappeared to go work, too.
The money Vuori had brought in for his mother to use to pay rent had disappeared when he lost his eyesight. Everything disappeared, just like his terrible father.
His father, eyesight, career, money, happy mother, uncle…
Everything had just went poof in an instant.

After about an hour of self-loathing and drowning in his emotions, he went to sleep inside the blind, determined to sleep off his anger.
He had no intentions of going home, then snapping at his poor mother in his blind rage.
As the mist continued to dance in the woods, Vuori fell asleep, another horrible day passing by.

kalon name: Alma (meaning soul, heart, spirit, or lifeblood in Spanish)
personality:
-Alma is distant and empty seeming. She just moves around as if she’s locked inside, a shell that has lost the life it had. She is always searching for something, always looking... she doesn’t speak, or really acknowledge others. She’s almost in another world. Only moving around in this one while she lives in another. Despite her empty expressions and slow movement, she tells stories. Not with words, but with the feeling around her.

short story:
“What happened me? Where am I?” Walking around lost in the woods you can find her. She moves slowly as if she’s trying not to break something. Why is she so careful? What happened to cause this? Well, if you want her for long enough… you’ll find out. She moves slowly to make sure she’s careful not to hurt someone else. She’s always looking around to make sure she doesn’t get hurt. She’s in the woods because that’s the last place she felt. The last place… she saw him. The one that broke her heart, the one that showed her love, and the one that abandoned her.
They were both young, both full of so much spirit. One day he took her to the woods. She always wanted to go to the woods, hear the animals and smell that fresh air. Experience true peace. When they went to the woods together, it was the day he planned to leave her life. She didn’t know... They both journeyed into the woods together on a hiking trail. It was supposed to be peaceful day. But even the birds knew. Not too far into the trail, they decided to venture into the woods off the trail. When they did, they eventually came to a large rock. It was covered in mosses and lichens trying to start life. They went and sat upon the rock to just enjoy being in the woods. After a short while of listening to the various sounds of the woods, from the creatures to the wind lightly brushing the leaves, he broke the silence. “I think it’s time.” he said simply, without even turning his head to look at Alma. “Time for what?” she asked him, turning to see he only looked at a dying tree ahead of them. He rose, keeping his gaze away from her, and got off the rock. “Time we end” he spat with venom in his voice that melted her away. Alma could only stare at him as she thought of what he said. End the walk? End the trip? “What?” She had to ask as her voice quivered and cracked. That one word was what would break her. “Us” he reaponded like ice and walked off, leaving her alone to the woods as the sun fell from the sky and the moon rose to give cold. She could only sit there on that rock and stare at where he once stood, cry softly as she heard his one word echo through her soul. It screamed at her, it mocked her, it consumed her. Tore her apart.
As the last rays of sunlight dipped below the horizon, she finally rose from the rock and stumbled off it to the ground covered in dead and dying leaves. “Us...” she echoed his words to herself. She knew what it meant but refused to accept that. She refused to think he was done with her. “No” she croaked as she held a scream of pain in her heart.
She drug her paws through the leaves and weeds as she muttered to herself, her eyes glazed over and fur staining from the tears that lingered. She felt empty and without a soul, without a heart. She didn’t know where she was going and just walked without a destination. She didn’t want one. As the night grew colder, her feeling of anything left more and more. All the crying made the bottoms of her eyes stain red, and her eyes faded. She slowly turned all her muttering into one word “ghost...” she would say, repeating. “Ghost...” the only thing she felt was that word, the only thingn she could think was that one heavy word. “Ghost...” was what she became. The more she said it, the more her eyes faded. She lost the light, the color from her. The trees around her howled her pain they saw, the wind echoing her word. All she could feel was those trees that felt her pain and responded, the only things that cared... as she stumbled through them. Further, further. “Ghost...” the cold turned the red under her eyes black, her fur now colorless and shaking black and white. Taking on the image of the only things that cared about her... “Ghost....” she sat beside a tree and stared at the leaves around her. Empty. Her face was blank, her eyes cold and empty. She became that solemn word... A ghost. Always wandering the forest, empty.
