Ryuu was born as a street dog, along with 4 other siblings. It was already a competition for survival from the get-go. His mother didn't have enough milk to give all 5 puppies because she was also malnutritioned. By the time Ryuu learned how to run, he had already lost 2 siblings. He never really stayed by mother's side and one day, wondered off. He was a lone dog.
However, as time passed, it showed that being nice to anyone was showing weakness. He had to roughed up to survive and fight for food. This led to him being a vicious dog. He never harmed anyone...yet. But because he always snarled and growled whenever someone walks past or gets too close, no one could guarantee he will never bite someone. It wasn't long before people started to try and catch him, to protect him and the public as well.
He ran as fast as he could but wasn't eventually captured and after an aggravating period of time, he was eventually rehabilitated and able to be put up for adoption at BWSDA.

Story: My owner disappeared. I never saw him again. Nobody wanted me. I ate the scraps from the city streets and roamed the city, the streetlights shining all through the night. I befriended other dogs, and some humans left food out for me. But still, my life was a lonely one. I missed the days when the snow fell from the sky and landed on my soft coat. I would practice with him, building up my strength and endurance, while pulling his blue sled. But those days were over. I only had the now.
I curled up in my usual spot, a small alley with an old blanket sitting in the corner. Soon, I had drifted off to a deep sleep filled with dreams. I was walking through the night, with my owner, in the street. Snow was falling, and we were the only ones around. He stopped, and said something completely clear to me. He did not say it in words, but in the way he looked at me. No matter how far away I am, even if I’m in a different land, I’ll still love you the same. Never forget that. We’ll always be together in heart. I woke up slowly, still basking in the beauty of my dream. Something landed lightly on my nose, snapping me out of my reverie. A snowflake! I looked around me. The world outside was blanketed in snow. Maybe it would be a good day after all.
I was making my usual rounds through the city, when I noticed someone walking a couple of dogs. I had never seen those dogs before, and by now, I knew everyone. I walked up to them, and offered a greeting. They appeared to be a pair of Alaskan Malamutes, well cared for by their owner. The owner noticed me, and knelt down carefully, not sure if I was hostile. “Well, hello there,” she spoke, in a calm, lyrical voice. I walked a little closer and sniffed her. Yup, definitely a dog person. She smiled at me, and walked away. Maybe this was the start of something better.
She came every day now, checking to make sure that I was okay, I guess. She was always mumbling to herself about how she needed to make things better in the world, and that all dogs needed homes. Finally, one day, she lifted me into her car and drove me to the shelter. They scanned me for who knows what, and declared, “Yup. He’s the dog of Antoine LeBlanc, such a shame. Baltic Huskies are such a noble breed.” The lady nodded, and left, her two Malamutes following in her wake. “Let’s get you comfy.” They led me into a kennel with a couple blankets, toys, and a bed. Certainly not up to my owner’s standard, but I wasn’t exactly complaining. I curled up, my fluffy tail covering my nose, and they left me to sleep.
When I woke up, I heard the sound of many voices calling out to each other and feet shuffling on the tile floor. I stood up, stretched a couple of times, and WIP

it's a sad fact that breeds of dogs come and go in popularity trends that lead to puppy booms, owners blindly wanting the dog the media promises and buying with no research into the breed itself. with the public's growing awareness of baltic huskies, they have become the latest victim in the long line.
merida's breeder, a fan of baltics, purchased a pair of dogs and set to work in hopes of turning a profit. the litter was big, her mother - though she did an excellent job - was barely two years old, and she and her pups were left in a backyard with little socialisation, it wasn't exactly the best start of life merida could have had. her breeder never registered her or her siblings, with the register fee.
at eight weeks old, she was sold to her new home as it neared the worst time of the year for puppies; bought as an early christmas present for the couple's five children, aged between nine and seventeen, who simply adored the breed. they weren't bad people, you understand. few truly are. but they were, however, ignorant - very - to the specialised needs of such a breed.
and, particularly, this one.
for the rest of the holidays, merida was spoiled. she slept on the end of the eldest child's bed. she had attention all the time.
then school and work started again, and the pup found herself quite alone for the first time in her life except for the father of the family, who worked from home and had a hard time juggling the pup and writing his articles. though she was a quick learner, she had accidents in the house due to people forgetting what time she was supposed to be let out at. her walks became more and more dispersed and causing arguments over who was supposed to walk her until eventually they dwindled to maybe two a week. she seemed to have trouble getting the hang of coming back from a distance. she responded well to consistent hand signals, which could prove troublesome in such a large, busy family.
she started teething and destroyed everything that was left within each. sticks, teddy bears, a phone charger that was thankfully plugged out, a valuable pair of shoes owned by the eldest child who's room she had up until that point been sleeping in. she was moved down to the kitchen, where she gnawed on the leg of a chair and was promptly moved out to the yard. she still got attention, the kids played with her after school and on the weekends - but it was hardly enough to keep her stimulated.
merida took to escaping, running with the neighbouring dogs. she'd be brought home, and the hole in the fence would be patched or the gate made a little higher and the game would begin again. with so little attention paid to her throughout the day, nobody noticed when she started digging a hole behind the hydrangea bushes. she had the day perfectly timed.
it took her awhile longer than some of her other attempts - then, what's quicker than just jumping the gate? - but eventually the little husky that could wriggled her way under the fence to freedom - and before the night was out, in front of a car. she had a lucky escape, no permanent injuries. the family all felt guilty for not noticing sooner her escape route or that she been missing for over an hour before they realised - and with no time to dedicate towards agility or a canine sport that could keep her occupied and happy - they came to hard decision to look into surrendering her to BWSDA.
again, not bad people. just ignorant. in fact, they loved her very much. and understood they couldn't give her what she needed. sometimes love means doing the best for someone else, even if it hurts.
a natural for the sled, though quite happy in her new environment with other dogs, was in need of a serious training overhaul and it wasn't long before the reason for the many chases in the park when she refused to come when called came to light; merida is hard of hearing. she has an estimated fifty-percent of her hearing, and can work in a team well with a patient owner. but as her hearing looks like it may continue to worsen, it is likely she'll retire from her racing career early. she has, however, came a long way since she was brought in at a year old and is quickly on her way to becoming a model dog for training younger members of a kennel how to behave. until the day arises, if it ever should, she has proven herself as excellent wheel dog material, with no fear of the sled so close behind.
her genetics were tracked from her parents, surrendered some time after her birth when her breeder couldn't keep up with the demands of two baltic huskies, and she has since been registered with the association.
her previous owners continue to keep in contact through email, and have come to some of her practice races. several of the children have expressed an interest in working in the BWSDA in the future. the future looks a little brighter, with education - even if it doesn't come in form we'd most like; learning to swim before you jump in the deep end.

No one likes the idea of a mutt. The stigma of them being beggars, street dogs, outcasts with jumbled genes; that's why everyone wants that breed-name purebred dog, no matter how expensive. They want to impress their friends with a cool dog, after all/
Of course, the truth is even "pure breeds" are mixes of other breeds, but their specific names and recognizable features are what catch eyes, and wallets. Even if someone is better suited to a 'mutt,' some still pay for the pedigree.
Such was the case with Victori. Her owners had done a little bit of research, enough to know how much she would shed and what to feed her. It was more asking around than actual research, but they were the uppity rich sort of people you find in housing developments.
Unfortunately, Victori fell victim to a simple case of her owners not knowing how to provide for her needs. As a working dog, she needed to be played with and excersized.

Story -
It was cold and rainy , and all I remember was lights. So many bright lights. Then I saw darkness , nothing but pure black. I stepped forward , but there was nothing. When I came back to life I saw people rushing around me surrounding me. They put there fleshy paws out at me. My only instinct was to growl , knowing I was going to lose this battle. The fleshy things walked away , and came back moments later with a wonderful smelling thing in their hand. they held it out to me , but I backed away not knowing if they meant to hurt me. They sat the stuff down and slid it across the ground. I soon realized it was food and ate it without second thoughts. It left soon after I started eating. I soon fell asleep. I woke up , and i was in a small box. I barked , but I didn't hear a reply, then I saw the fleshy things again. It seemed to try to be comforting me or helping me. I let the thing touch me , and it felt nice I enjoyed it a lot. I decided to call them up-walkers. The up-walker looked at me and seemed to say something to me. Soon they picked up my box , and I saw a up-walker in white clothes that had a pointy thing. It jabbed me with pointy thing it hurt for a little bit , but not long. They shred some murmurs and i fell back into darkness. I woke to feel clean , and not grungy. I saw some nice people walk up to me and put a bracelet type of thing around my neck , and attack a rope to it, and they led me away into a better life.
