Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (#91)

This kiddo was given to us by a hunter; under the claim that the dog was a "terrible hunting dog". Only fault to this ? The Toller is still just a puppy. Of course it's not going to like being around guns and trying to learn the ways of hunting. We didn't mention this to the man, however, and just let him leave. The dog is extremely skittish and lunges and snaps at people that move too quickly; we suspect they're a fear biting dog, so it's best to move slow and keep your hands up in the air when moving around them. They seem to be somewhat okay with other animals, though they do use their pup growl when they're threatened. After some time, they don't mind hesitantly letting you pet them slowly. The duck they have goes everywhere with them; it was a kind donation to the shelter. We don't know why they like the duck so much, but they do.

Foldex (#92)

The cat was actually heard about awhile ago, though the shelter just now managed to catch it. Despite it's small size, squashed face and overly pretty fur, it's a street smart cat. We're assuming that this cat has been on the street since it was a little kitten, which is rather sad if you think about it. They don't lash out at people on impulse, but they do seem to have a patience meter that can go off at any time and once it does ? They'll thrash around a bit and run away from you. They seem to see themselves as something higher than any other race around them, and refuse to be beat down by any other dog, cat or human alike. It's probably suggested you, as the owner, find a way to control their attitude as well as not have that many other animals in your house.

Why do they like that duck so much ?:
After being dropped off my the shelter, Lily received the toy from one of the volunteers.
Many think she had a toy she loved as much as the duck that she was forced to leave behind
as she was surrendered by the owner. The duck being the first toy she got since then, she
became obsessed with the toy, carrying it with her everywhere, sleeping with it, taking
it with her while eating. This is how the shelter discovered she snapped at people,
even biting.She bares her teeth and growls at anyone who tries to touch the toy, and
has bitten at times. Not hard, but still bites. However, Lily's obsession with the toy has
gotten to the point where it needs to be taken away, which often results in bites.
In all, no one really knows the real reason of why she loves the toy like she does.

Why he likes that duck so much: For Jay, the duck is partially like a source of comfort. As a puppy he always relied on his mother to protect and shelter him from the not so kind hunter; so when he was moved to scs that sort of 'barrier' and guardian was removed, leaving him really frightened and terrified of people. Jay doesn't want to hurt people because he loves the affection and pleasing pepole, but he cannot control his snapping urges out of fear since he is just a puppy- so he keeps the duck in his mouth. With the duck in his mouth he is unable to try and nip anyone, just making him give his little puppy growl of warning.
The other part is that Jay doesn't like people hurting the ducks. He just wants to be their friend! So the little puppy Jay feels he is protecting this duck from all the people he doesn't trust, because he just wants the duck to be safe too.

[b]Why do they like that duck so much ?:[b] Nova loves the duck so much because it was his first hunting catch, and his owner rewarded him with it. He loved it right when he got it, He usually cuddles with it when sleeping. Nova is just attached to this duck and loves it to death. He loves the soft feeling of the ducks feathers in his mouth, It reminds him of his owners parka that he sleeps in. WIP!

To Molly this little duck means everything to her because she feels so safe with it and it relaxes her. Like a child who can't sleep without their teddy is exactly How Molly sees this duck. It makes her feel secure.

What's their worst encounter with another animal ?: Ironically, when Felix was a kitten he discovered a mouse scuttling about in an alleyway. After spending some time attempting to corner the creature, he put on a burst of speed straight at it. The mouse ran to the left, causing Felix to run right into a wall, leaving him confused and still hungry. Oh, he's had his share of dog attacks and angry humans, but Felix still regards the mouse indecent as his worst failure, due to his pathetic attempts at snagging a meal.
