negative personality traits:
notes; They were raised as an only child of two still-married parents. They left home when they were old enough to escape their overbearing parents and discover the world for themselves, instead of take the protective "the outside world is bad" mentality that their parents would wish for them to have.
As a child, Yveri ran away from their family for days on end, seeking refuge in the library to read every book on the shelves. This inspired them to become a lower class librarian, archivist and scribe, where they could remain in mostly empty, quiet rooms with absolutely no other people and nothing else but a book, writing materials, and several candles. Not to mention that even if there are other people -- they have to remain mostly quiet.
Yveri is constantly dusting/cleaning their surroundings with their tail to keep from getting sick. They bathe multiple times a day when possible to rid themselves of the built-up dust that winds up in their coat.
Job Responsibilities:
-transcribing old books onto new paper that are beyond repair (salvaging their covers for later material),
-reshelving books They prefer not using their magic telepathy where possible because it doesn't take much before it exhausts them.
Tends to avoid people because they are usually too loud for Yveri. This makes Yveri come off as skittish and flighty, although it's nothing more than a tendency to avoid things that hurt their ears.
crush:
"the first time i met her, i only met words on a page."
yveri found her name repeated in the front card of a stack of about 20 books while putting returned books back on the shelf and fell in love. they crafted an idea of who she was based on the many books she read, which varied from the historical nonfiction section to the natural sciences section and even included a few books from the arts and crafts section. this obviously was a person with wildly differing interests that loved botany, the arts, and even learning about the past. her name was amaranth. she seemed like the perfect jaupie, but eventually her name stopped appearing in the cards in the fronts of books. for about half a year, yveri whispered her name while doing their job to see if any of the people surrounding them in the aisles respond, but there were no takers. it was obvious to them that amaranth would never return to the library.
"i saw it once, and like all other names, i thought it would leave me.
and then i saw it again. and again. i realized she was a regular here
and i had never even seen her. "
eventually, yveri went to another scribe in the library and found out her address from the library's records of people with a library card. they bought a bouquet of flowers and went to her home in the city. from one of the windows, a light shone out. yveri's palms started sweating nervously at the prospect of seeing their crush but regardless, still knocked on the door. a girl about yveri's age came to the door, answered with a gentle 'hello' and yveri almost ran away at the mere sight of her. they handed her the flowers and introduced themselves and how they had found her. they asked if they might go out for tea sometime, but unfortunately amaranth, the girl of yveri's dreams was homeridden. locked in because of an illness, it was unlikely that she'd ever get out of her home, much less for tea.
"i asked her if i could come in when i found out i was at her home,
and she had said yes. we spent the afternoon talking about books
and i have to say... i think i blushed all night. ever since, i've been
blushing because she's never off my mind. i go visit her when i'm off
work, which is hardly ever, but sometimes i see her name checked out, still.
she has an assistant at home that comes over to check out books for her...
and take hand-written messages back to her from me."
yveri was eventually told that amaranth became well again, but because she works in the royal court as a messenger to the queen, it would be unlikely that they would ever run into each other again in person, regardless of how many books amaranth's assistant comes to get for her.
