Xe actually enjoys being mute, as it means xe doesn't have to show emotion. Xe has found a way to write so that others can see what xe wants to say without xim needing to speak.

What significance does the bow tie have?

Xe has always has xis bow tie, and it's the last thing xe has to remind him of xis family. It used to be a bow xis mother would wear on her left ear, and despite xim constantly wearing it, it still smells like her. Xe finds wearing it to be very calming and relaxing, keeping xim grounded.
