Her mother named her after the Andromeda galaxy on account of her eyes. It has a longer history as well,
given that the galaxy was named after a Greek woman in myth. She was renowned for her beauty and rescued
from certain death by a handsome hero named Perseus. Andromeda loves her mother but she recoils from that
aspect of the story; should she ever be chained to a rock she's quite certain she'll be able to get herself loose,
thank you very much.
