When Kai was very young, his father gave him a little lantern and a note.

Dear Kai,
I hope you know that your mother and I love you very much, but we were not meant to be together. Tomorrow, you will be going with your mother, your sister with me. To prevent you from making a quick decision, like I did, I am giving you this lantern and key. I had your aunt put a charm over it so that only the creature who is meant for you can open it.

The next day, Kai was taken with his mother and he didn't understand anything until a couple years later. That is why he carries the lantern and key. So as not to quickly decide like his father.

Why does it carry a key and lantern?:

Many years ago, Zanthum wandered into a visiting gypsy's tent outside of his hometown. He entered, then sat, telling the gypsy of his tale of woe and loneliness, of how he'd love to find somebody to share his soul with. At the time, Zanthum did not know the gypsy was known for her mischievousness. She said his problem was as good as solved and then -
Zanthum woke up in his home, a lantern with a key laying next to him. A small little note written in elegant handwriting laid next to the two mysterious objects. It said:


"Inside the lantern rests your soul
And the key is to open it
However, open it yourself and all will be lost.
There is another who yearns for your soul
Go and find them
And give them the key
If they are the one, they can unlock it
Then, and only then
Will you know who your soul belongs to."

Zanthum wasn't one for romantic endeavors - and especially not something as cheesy as this - but he knew it was the only say. Zanthum roams the land looking for his one true soulmate - the one that can unlock his soul and truly set him free.

I'm sorry, howlingtothestars has specifically told me to put Esakuru's 10, 11, and 12 up for adoption with the end date of August 9th, 2015. Since to me, howlingtothestars instructions are final so I cannot extend or change anything.
