The bay prances with excitement in the stall,
excited snorts sound around the track

putting their all and everything in, glaring at the competition at their side
Concentration, the look their jockeys faces etch.

They fly across the grass, their hooves pounding
Determination flashes in the horses eyes, but the bay remains at the front of the pack.
Citation, the challenger, his galloping hooves sounding
His body weight lighter than his tack

The sweat flecks at his bronze neck as he passes the post
cheers raise up from crowd, he had won!

Life off the track

The soft nickers that greeted the large bay thoroughbred warmed his heart as he lifted his head from where it had been hung during his peaceful slumber. Usually Citation wouldn't have slept as long as he did, but the workout he'd partaken in just yesterday worked him dry of any energy. He was grateful that today was one of his only days off that would get for a while. Because of his popularity on and off the track, he barely got any relaxation time and when he did he was still being checked out by vet's, ferries and even fans who came by the stable to pay him a visit. He had grown used to the publicity and everything else that came with being a well-known racehorse, not only that but a Triple Crown winner as well. His eyes were still heavy with sleep but his nostrils flared open to drink in the sweet ramona of the fresh hay that had been tossed into his stall along with the full bucket of glistening crystal water that had his dry throat calling out to. In the next few minutes in which his muzzle was lowered into the water bucket as he drank up the cool liquid, jockey's began filling the barn, taking their mounts out of their stalls and prepping them for training. After his thirst had been quenched, the red bay stallion lifted his head up, his brown hues watching the scene around him as horses tossed their heads and nipped at crossties. Casting his gaze to the wall that separated the stall next to his, his took a step towards it and lowered his muzzle to the crack in the wall that allowed him to peek into the other horse's home. Luckily the horse that owned the neighbouring stall was a close friend of his named Polo, or more distinguishable by his race name, Polaroid Perception. The chestnut stallion greeted Citation with a friendly, low nicker and bumped his muzzle against the hole. Their interaction was cut short when Polo's jockey came to fetch him.

Citation spent the next few minutes after Polo's departure simply standing in his stall, observing what was happening around him. That was, until a tall, lean man strolled over to his stall door. His jockey, Mason, stood before him with the familiar chain lead that glinted in the rays of sun that filtered into the barn. Letting out a snort, the stallion moved towards the door, letting his head stretch out over the stall door to greet his jockey. The bond he and Mason had was unmistakably strong and he was one of the only humans that Citation bestowed his trust in. Time passed as Mason clipped the lead to Citation's halter and led the tall stallion out into the barn then out where the fresh air greeted the stallion. Inhaling the set scent of the outdoors, Citation's ears perked forward and his head was on a constant swivel as he attempted to take in all his surroundings. Mason led his mount towards one of the empty paddocks, turning him loose and swinging the long gate closed before returning to the barn. Left to himself in the spacious paddock, the stallion tossed his head excitedly and gave a little jump that made him look like a young colt. Bucking and sprinting around the paddock is how he spent most of the morning in the paddock, that and calling out to almost every horse that passed by his line of vision. Some returned his call and other's blatantly ignored him as they focused on commands their jockey was giving them. Nonetheless, Citation spent his day off relaxing in the paddock, grazing on the lush grass that cast a green shadow over the ground of the enclosure as well as tiring himself out whenever a bout of energy came back to him.
