800 Word Story wrote:The day after Halloween Night was always particularly quiet, especially for Sarid. And, for that he was thankful. Yes, very loud children and teenagers would come into his domain, but, all they usually did was throw away their garbadge, or damage the trees and foilage. He did not want anything to do with people who did this. Yes, he was lonley, but not so lonley as to befriend humans who damaged his home. It disgusted him, really.
With a hefty sigh, the feathered Pseudo took off, running and jumping between each tree. It was around this time of night that he would go for a run. Just simply for him to clear his thoughts, and to scout out the area. The feeling of the October breeze surfing through his featheres, and the sent of the falling leaves completley exillerated him. Sarid loved the outdoors deeply. Just as he was taking a break and began grooming his ruffled body, he heard a snap coming from the area behind him. Giant ears perked, he whisked around and crouched low to the branch, and observed. His giant amber eyes hungrily scanning the area for the source of the sound. Sniffing the air once, he heard it again. Deciding to skip on to the next tree as quietly as he could, he finlly pinpointed the source. A human girl who was very lost-looking.
As soon as he lay eyes on her, his pace quickened, and excitment flared through him. This was a common occurance for whenever he saw someone other that the plants that surrounded him. His lonliness would all but completley overcome him, and he would fight the urge to pounce on them and lick their face with glee. But, he held his ground and tried to breathe evenly.
"Observe, Sarid. Do not make contact.."
He was supposed to know who this person was before he intervened with them. The girl continued walking, and rubbed her arms nerously while her chest rose and fell with shaky breaths. All signs pointed to her being lost. Instantly, his heart panged, and he longed to aid this lost girl, but couldn't. "No. Not yet.." She passed right underneath his tree, and the Owl turned around to enable further observation.
After about twenty more minutes of him simply watching her, his mind had been set on what he was going to do. Obviously VERY lost, and afraid, he had to help her. So, he zomed through the trees, and stopped on one that was a few paces ahead of her, and he hung upside-down by his tail from a limb, his paws tucked up against his chest, and his head cocked. To him, he looked quite adorable in this pose, but, the girl didn't seemto think so. She let out a freightened screech, and fell backwards onto her bum on the cold ground. Flinching, he made a whooing sound and dropped from the branch.
"Wh-what are you!?" She yelled out, scuttling backwards. Sarid stood there, and his tail fell to the ground. People usually had this reaction to him. Should he be surprised? No. It happened all the time. But, each time that it happened, it never got any easier than before. Still looking at him, the humanrl obviousley didn't see the pained expression on his face, instead she repeated her question, while shaking violently.
'Am I really that scary?'
Now the Pseudo was hurt, no one had been this dramatic over meeting him before, and it pained him deeply. Opening his mouth to speak, he noticed the girl flinch at his movement, and immediatley snapped his maw shut. Shaking his head, he decided to take action. "I'm.. I'm a Pseudo Dragon.. And.. My name is Sarid.." As the words leaked from his mouth, her eyes widened, and a hand slowly covered her mouth, while dropping to her knees.
"You.. You talk!?"
Sarid nodded and sat down as well. "Yes. I do."
By now, the girl was completley dumbfounded. Suddnely, she began giggling softly, and his reaction to this was a cock of his brow.
"So you DO exist!" Now the laugher reeceded and she took a deep breath.
"Finaly.. I've found a Pseudo! I've been searching for one of your kind for months, almost years now!"
"You've.. Been looking for me..?"
"Yes!! And I finally have! Please, will you be my friend?"
"Wha-" He began, but quikly stopped. Yes, this was all weird, but, at the same time, excitment was now filling him. Somebody wanted to be his friend! Hehad never had a friend before!
"I'd really like to be your friend." Sarid smiled sweetly and padded up to her, and she placed a delicate hand on her head.
"Okay, Sarid. Come. I'll bring you home."
