CWHR: Dappled Grey

Postby Chronometer » Sat Oct 25, 2014 3:13 pm

Look at this shiny show gelding! He looks like he's just ready for his jog and evaluation for his first international level dressage show. Unfortunately, he's managed to get loose, and is now running around, causing havoc on the grounds!

To win him, fill out the form and tell me a short story about how he got away from his handler. The more creative, the better!

Though his reins are dangling dangerously near his leg, this fellow made it through his little adventure without any injuries.

How has he managed to get loose? (Roughly 500 words maximum)
It was a beautiful day, with puffy white clouds that looked like marshmallows and a radiant sun smiling down at the arena. Cade, a young giant dutch warmblood, was having his first actual show.
First, there's a few things you should know about Cade. One, he's still a bit nervous around people, as he was abused at a young age but was adopted by a kind person. Two, Cade is VERY easily spooked. He's scared of practically everything. Today, however, Cade wanted to be on his best behavior. Little did he know what lived near the arena...
As Sara, a student of his trainer's, tacked up the tall gelding, Cade could see from the corner of his eye that the little girl was shaking in nervousness and fear. She was only about 4''6, and she would've been better off on a pony or a small horse. However, she was reluctant to ride any horse besides Cade.
It wasn't long before Sara and Cade were called into the arena, and Sara was mounted on the enormous horse. Cade started off with a walk. There were annoying flies, a few sudden cries from babies in the audience, murmuring and low voices from the audience and the judges, and other distracting things. However, Cade tried to overcome his fears for Sara's sake. This was his first horse show, as well as Sara's too.He didn't want her to be disappointed. Soon, Sara gave him a small kick, signaling for him to transition into a trot. Nervously, Cade counted down from 5 before trotting. Five...four...three...two...one--
Suddenly, NEIGH! Everything became a big blur, and Cade lost all sense of self-control. Sara's small body went flying in the air, a frightened gelding started rearing and bucking frantically as he galloped around the arena, and the giant gelding's worst enemy sat in a terrified ball near the fence : a cat.
Cats were Cade's weakness. From the "almost-snake-like eyes" (as Cade puts it) to the terrifyingly skinny and furry tails and the sharp, painful claws, Cade was terrified of cats of all sizes and breeds. His reins hung dangerously near his feet as he reared, bucked, and threw his head around in fear. It was crazy, chaotic mess. What if Cade got stuck tangled in his reins? What if he stepped on Sara? What someone got hurt? Like a bolt of lightning, five trainers jumped into the arena. Two blocked the gates, one helped Sara, and two helped calm the panicked horse down.
Ten minutes later, Cade was lead out of the arena, with his head down in shame. After apologizing to Sara, Cade's trainer returned to Cade. Seeing him upset, his trainer smiled. "Aw Cade, everyone make mistakes and I know how scared you were and how you had good intentions for Sara though, because you're a good big boy," she cooed. "Hey look, it's the runaway horse!" Sara yelled before leaving the arena as she flashed a forgiving smile to Cade. Cade's trainer gave the gelding a hug and said, "I'm glad you and Sara aren't hurt...you terrified gentle giant."

Hehe, my boy got loose today and terrorised a beginner lesson. That's partially what made me release this adopt now.

How has he managed to get loose?(From Nyra's (Rider) Prospective) Chase has always been a pain, he seemed to whatever he could to annoy me. I hoped so that today he would just behave, it was his first REALLY big show and he needed to look good. It was time now to enter the ring for warm up and Chase seemed fine so far. I walked him about by the reins, he was being absolutely great. They judges announced that it was time to put the saddles on and prepare for the show. Nyra led him over to the saddle and was about to time him up when he began to nuzzle her hand. "I know, good boy Chase. Just gotta put the saddle on" she murmured. Little did I know that as he nuzzle my hands, he was also pulling the reins from my grasp very slowly. Suddenly Chase bolted and I realized the reins were gone from my hands. "CHASE!!!" I roared, racing after him. I dodged around me and raced out of the arena, yells and shrieks of suprise filled the air. I ran as fast as I could, his shiny gray rump was disappearing behind the crowds of people.

I searched the area for hours, becoming more and more frustrated and scared. Where had my dear Chase gone? I know he had most definitely earned his name but he was still my darling boy. What if the reins caught on his leg? What if he got to the road? If someone found him where would they take him? It was late afternoon when I wandered back to the arena to get my stuff. The thought of driving home with an empty trailer broke my heart. As I was loading up the the truck and about to close up the trailer I felt something on my back. I spun around and there was Chase, mane and tail wild, covered in dirt and with a smug look on his face. I wrapped my arms around his neck, "Don't you ever do that again!" I demanded, but the look in his eyes told me this would not be the last time I had to chase Chase.

NOTE: By "On the youngish side," I mean he can be anywhere between four and seven. Any younger is FAR too young to fit with this scenario, since he appears to be just starting showing low level international dressage.

Should have mentioned this before, sorry!

How has he managed to get loose? It was a bright morning, blue skies, no clouds, perfect show weather. Bone's rider was one of those rich teens that lease a horse and immediately think that they are fit to win grand champion, so she had only ridden him for two weeks. He wanted to win this show, it was in his nature, but he had no chance of doing that with her. He felt no bond with her, so, during his warm up, when she bent to pet a dog walking by, Bone pretended to spook, bolting and leaving his rider on the ground. As Bone ran, he began to envy wild horses. Your power, grace, elegance, It made him feel like he had never felt before. It had made him feel free. So many times he had scorned them, but... well, let's just say Bone did his best not to be captured. He imagined what he looked like to others, tail streaming, the braids in his mane flopping about his powerful legs in constant motion, hooves thundering on the ground. No one probably saw that though, they were too busy screaming and running out of the path of the wild horse. It's not like he would have hurt them!
When he was finally captured, Bone was deemed a dangerous horse, because his footing slipped in a small puddle and he stepped on someone's foot. He was dismayed to find out he would be sold to Cottonwood, and then to someone else, where they might not let him show. All because that Cottonwood scout had been the one to catch his reins. He would have been perfectly happy to stay at his current barn, but they were scared of him now, and couldn't wait to see him led into that unfamiliar trailer.

How has he managed to get loose? Wild was going to his first international dressage event just a few minutes down the freeway. We loaded him into the trailer and locked it, we just didn't know the lock was broken... Wild was looking out the trailer bars when something shiny caught his eye. A car with a very flashy license plate and bumper stickers had just passed us. So what do you think Wild did, he tried to escape. He just had to go after it. He started kicking at the trailer door. It flew open about the third time he kicked it. He jumped out of the trailer and started racing down the freeway. Dodging cars left and right. We pulled over because we saw the door fly open and Wild jump out. We couldn't run out into the road to get him. We tried running on the side but he was to fast and wouldn't listen to us screaming his name. He probably couldn't even see the car anymore considering it was going 70 down the freeway. He just kept running anyway. He terrified me at one point, he was about the same length of his tail away from being hit by a pickup truck. He dodged it and kept running. A police officer who had seen Wild running a little ways back had pulled over many cars so Wild would have a better chance at not being hit. We had stopped a while back because we couldn't keep up, luckily, we had another horse in the trailer, so I rode him. I was gaining on Wild when he saw the event we were going to, and he followed the other horses. In the hugh arena with tons of other horses, we lost Wild. At least until we spotted him galloping around the arena, nipping other horses as he past by. As we were running towards him, he turned towards the crowd. He didn't try to hurt anyone, but he definitely spooked some people. As we got up to him, trying to rope him, he started to buck. Luckily I knew just what would calm him down, carrots. As soon as I pulled them out of my pocket, he couldn't resist. We had finally caught him.

How has he managed to get loose? "What a beautiful day for completion" Leah thinks aloud. Jupiter snorts, personally he would rather be out in the fields with his friends. On top of going in the trailer-that-almost-always-brings-you-to-the-vet hadn't been the best start to his day. Then his nose caught a smell, a wonderful familiar smell. Carrots! He thought ecstatically and swing his head around to locate them, ignoring the bit pulling on side of his mouth. There lay a bag of carrots with brightly stood out against the grass. Jupiter swings his head in the direction to try to tell Leah to bring him there. "Hey!" She replies no rewarding his efforts for the carrots. In fact does the opposite, she tightens her grip on the reins, Jupiter sighs. Leah goes back to grab the saddle pad and place it on him. A women from the show Jupiter didn't remember her name but he remembers Leah saying something about her being the host of this event. The both of them start talking and Jupiter fails to follow what they are saying, some human gibberish he thinks to himself. Then a devious thought slips in his mind, since Leah’s distraction this could be his chance. Jupiter waits for her grip on the reins to loosen a little more, right at the moment she does he dart towards the carrots and grabs the bag. “Oh on!” he hear Leah exclaim about a feet away. She’s right on my tail! He think to himself. He know he couldn't enjoy his victory yet and he gallops forward. Soon a gate comes into view two male humans walk out conversing. I got to get in there he thinks.

Leah runs after him, DANG IT! she thinks as she follows a foot behind Jupiter, there was no hope in catching up with him now. He runs in the gate in the nick of time and Leah crashing into it trying to catch up to him. The two people that were walk out jumped to the side as soon as they saw tall gelding running them. She fumbles for the lock on the gate then, when she looks up, she is overcome with the want to laugh. There was the runaway prancing around the dressage ring with a bag of carrots hanging for his mouth. Jupiter is swinging his head around trying to open the bag she could picture the thoughts running through his head what type unbreakable human device is keeping me for from having these carrots!?. She lets out a small laugh. The two men that had fallen get up and look flustered at the sight of the gelding. To my surprise Jupiter run over toward the gate, he holds his head high showing out his prized carrot bag. She quickly grabs his reins and opens the gate. You can only imagine the stares they got.

“Hey is that the horse with the carrot bag?” Somebody exclaimed.

“Look it’s the runway!” Somebody else adds. Leah looks up at Jupiter who still has the carrot bag in his mouth.

“Why you've grown quite popular Jupiter.” She say, I’m sure this is going to be a dressage show to remember she thought.
