Her Name:
Lorelei, a river demon from German mythology
Her Past:
Lorelei's history is centered around one event: a regret, one that she always hides; it is the thing that has scarred her past, and made her the cold, distant creature she is today. What hurts Siren the worst, is the fact that it came not from her capacity for darkness, but her capacity for love.
When she was younger, she had a friend- a very close friend, who was a sister to Lorelei. This pseudo's name as Siren, and She and Lor(as Lorelei was called) grew up together, took care of one another, and loved one another as if they really were family. Each knew the other's hearts as if they were their own. There could not have been two closer friends.
While Lor had always been serious, in those days she was not so reserved, and she lived and loved and made friends. Siren was bright and outgoing, funny, fun-loving, and always ready to laugh. Because of this, she had many, many friends, though was close to none but Lor. However, she would of course spend time with these other friends. Lorelei did not know them well, and so usually she stayed behind and was lonely for as long as Siren was with them. Over time, this happened more and more often; but Lor, trusting her friend, never wondered why she was spending less time with her, and only waited for when Siren would return. She would be bitter, however, and weep alone some salty tears.
One day, Siren returned to Lorelei with another pseudo- a male named Leviathan. She declared to her long-time friend that she was in love with Lev. What's more, she planned on becoming Lev's mate, and on moving out of the den she and Lor shared into Leviathan's den. Leviathan was handsome, Lor could tell, with a kind of charm, but his eye gleamed with nothing that was good, and lor distrusted him. Siren, however, on hearing Lor's warnings, accused Lor of jealousy; there was a fight, and Siren left for Leviathan.
Time passed; Lor and Siren still spent time with each other, and they remained friends, but nothing like it was before. Lorelei still bared her heart to her friend's, but it seemed to her that Siren had closed to her, and no longer shared everything with her. Also, Siren never seemed her proper self; she was less outgoing, and often lapsed into silence. Lor suspected that some foulness was going on with Leviathan, and determined that she would visit the den, to see what was going on. Siren hurriedly brushed her off, however, saying that a visit was not necessary, and perhaps they could get together again in Lorelei's den?
Lorelei determined to go anyway, and see what was really going on, despite the fact that Siren so keenly wanted her to stay away. As dusk fell, a few days later, Lor swung down from the trees to visit Siren and Leviathan's den. It was dark within, and she had difficulty seeing. Nervously, she entered in, calling out to Siren. At first there was no answer; then she heard snarling, in Lev's voice, and fearful sounds that were clearly Siren. She heard words that sounded like "get out" and "go away", and assuming Leviathan would come to make her leave, Lorelei prepared herself to fight.
Sure enough, a dark shape plummeted towards her, screaming at her to leave with malice in its eyes. Baring her teeth, Lorelei leapt at it, until it lay lifeless below her. Triumphant, Lor called into the den forSiren, saying that she was freed; but the pseudo that emerged from the depths was not Siren, but Leviathan. Grieved and afraid, Siren fled until she could flee no more. Guilt overwhelmed her. She had tried to protect her sister and friend- and had killed her instead.
Since then, there has been little event in Lorelei's life; she has not allowed herself to grow close enough to any in order to allow a life-shaking thing to happen. Instead, Lorelei keeps herself cold and distant, watching life mocklingly from the outside- uninvolved, cynical, pitying and pitiless.
