Purl Name: Aelstan (variant of Alston)
Name Meaning: It originates from Old English and it can mean 'elf stone' or 'town at the river source'. I selected it for the meaning of 'elf stone' because the breed has pointed elven-like ears and he is coloured similar to different kinds of stones. Also anything associated with elves is often considered to be beautiful, elegant, noble, or special which should all apply to this fellow.
Gender: Male
Hound Variety: Smooth
Personality: Aelston has a rather reserved personality being the calm dog who watches his environment more then immediately reacting. He is generally cautious of new things but when he learns that nothing bad will befall him, he warms up to it. This includes his reaction to new people, though he is usually more towards standoffish if his owner is with him or they are on his territory. He is bold when need be but otherwise he is a gentle quiet Purl.
He is also proud and holds his head high as if he knows he is a canine worth taking notice of. However, he usually keeps that attitude away until he is being brought into a show ring. This is where he works and he knows that he will walk away with a ribbon, or at the least a lot of positive attention.
When simply being at home he will happily spend hours lazing about the house or taking the time to cuddle with his owner. When they decide to play he is full of energy and won't stop until he can barely walk without stumbling on his own toes. He favourite toy is a simple red-orange hockey ball, but if he has it you are better off staying out of the way. He has high prey drive for that toy in specific and will run you over if it happens to roll past you.

*Creative Writing: A short story about when Shelby went to choose her first Purl.
"Ok, so I'll drive us over to the food place but the second the last bite is down we are going to get my dog." Shelby says sternly after finally relenting to Jenna's constant demand to eat before taking the longer drive to collect the Purl. With a roll of her eyes and a smile Jenna jumps into the passenger seat and shakes her head at her friends impatience.
"Honestly, Shelb the dog isn't going anywhere until we get there cool your jets!" She says with a laugh as Shelby hops into the car with a huff of annoyed defeat.
Glancing at her the other woman as she drove Shelby says, "Maybe that is true but I have been waiting for this so long, and the breeder said it will be a first come, first served basis. Which means if we get there late all of the good ones will be gone! I won't complain if I get the last of the litter but I do want some options as to which Purlhound I get. This is a big decision and I want to love the personality not just the simple coat colour. I also don't want to settle of one if it isn't what I wanted that wouldn't be fair to the dog." Jenna has nothing to say to that having some reservation about getting a dog in the first place. So the drive continues in silence.
...
"Come on, Jenna chew faster! You got a smaller pita then me and I still finished before you." Shelby is practically vibrating in her seat with anticipation to go choose a Siberian Purlhound. She has the wrapper from her food clutch in her hands and is twisting and crushing it into the form of a dog. She sighs with frustration when Jenna simply raises her eyebrows and pauses to take a sip of her drink, obviously baiting her anxious friend. "Fine then take your time." Shelby glares back at her and grabs her mango smoothie taking a long drink, when the loud sound of the straw no longer picking up any liquid reverberates through the restaurant it makes Jenna cringe. Shelby narrows her eyes coming up with an evil plan to get her friend to move faster. She pauses to take a breath then starts sucking on the straw relentlessly almost smiling with satisfaction as the gurgling noise starts drawing curious eyes.
"Shelby stop that! You are acting immature and disrupting everyone." Jenna has dropped her lunch on the tray just to glare at Shelby, who ignores the complaint and continues with the grating noise. "Fine then I'm done anyways!" Jenna jumps to her feet and throws out her trash with a pleased Shelby following suit.
...
Now in the car as it moves over the bumpy rode the pair remain silent, Jenna still annoyed, and Shelby too excited to speak. It feels like they have been driving for hours when they finally see a sign that says 'Purl Palace Kennel' which is the name of the breeder. Shelby wastes no time in turning down the driveway and parking the car next to a few others when they pull up. There is a couple taking there new companion with them as they leave and Shelby's smile brightens at the thought of getting to bring her own home soon. Jenna doesn't even have time to get out of the car before her friend is gone in the direction of the building.
Once the pair meet the owner and are taken to the back of the house they have already seen a handful of Purlhounds and ribbons everywhere.
When the woman stops and gestures towards a large pen in the middle of the yard where the older pups available for adoption were Shelby happily walks over to it at a steady pace. There are a few left and not all of them are from the same litter judging on the slight size differences and how they are grouped together. Shelby kneels next to the cage and smiles as all the Purls scramble over each other begging for attention. Their coat types are widely ranged within breed standards and all are stunning in colours and patterns.
Jenna seeing her friends delight also wanders over and some of the dogs turn their attention to the newcomer. Shelby uses this opportunity to step back and observe trying to fit personalities with each Purl, based or their reactions to Jenna. It isn't long before Shelby notices a slight movement from one side of the pen, she turns her head towards the shadow curious. There sits a handsome little pup slightly bigger then the others but just sitting there watching these two new humans.
"Hello, there. Who might you be little fellow?" The long pointed ears swivel towards her and his head tilts slightly as he listens to her gentle voice. His coat is in beautiful shades of grey and smooth. His gaze is cautious, and curious as he eyes Shelby. She can't help but smirk at the intelligence he seems to have. She walks casually around the perimeter of the pen to the side where he was seated.
"My aren't you like a little King watching your subjects from afar, eh?" She plops onto the ground next to him and holds up one palm hovering at the edge of the bars At first he doesn't move not even so much as blinks, but then he swivels from his position to better face her and stretch out his
(Still working on it right now I just don't want to mess up the tab and lose the work. x] )
*Theme song: Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John and Kiki Dee This seems pretty fitting for if it were Aelston and Shelby seen as the two sides. Not in love obviously but loving like a dog and its owner. They are there for each other and comfort one another through the general ups and downs of life.
(I'll be done with this soon, promise. 8] )
