And they basically kicked me out of the house until I got a pair of sunglasses.
Mark came with me, as he always does, and began to almost drag me somewhere. This was not how he usually acted, so I decided to humor him, and follow along.
So I did that for a while. And realized this wasn't the main road anymore...
And then later it wasn't even a dirt road. It was barely even a trail, running through a forest!
I tried to stop, tried to explain to my buddy, that, whoa. This was far enough, but he didn't listen. After all, I hadn't known him for very long at that point, and hey, he's a scarf. Scarves do what they want.
Anyways, he kept pulling me along, pulling me along, until finally, there was a clearing in the woods. Just that. Just a clearing. I was really confused, so I asked my little scarf buddy, 'Dude. What are we even doing here.'
He ignored me, as he often does, even now, and pulled me into the center of the clearing, and pointed at a very specific spot. I rolled my eyes, and stood on it, again, humoring him. The spot clicked, which was weird, and then a second later, a huge rumbling noise started up.
Freaked out, I stepped back, and good thing too, because the ground was opening up, and, cliche and all, a set of stairs was underneath. 'You want me to go in there? Seriously?' I ask, disbelieving that my scarf had brought me all the way here, apparently for a pair of sunglasses. Mark pulled me a bit toward the stairs, almost making me lose my balance. 'Whoa, whoa! I get it, I get it, I'm going in! Sheesh...' I took a small step forward, then put one hoof on the top stair.
Ever noticed how deer and stairs never seem to mix well?
Well, they don't.
A few bruises, scrapes, and a very large trip later, I reached the bottom. I stood up quickly, and looked around. Not very well lit... But a few torches spaced every now and then.
When I walked by one of them, Mark grabbed it, giving us a portable light source. With a nod of appreciation at my scarf, I continued on my epic journey to find a pair of sunglasses.
There wasn't anything fancy down there. No monster battles, not really many spider webs, not even labyrinthine hallways, but I suppose I was grateful. Even though I would've given anything for a real adventure when I was a kid, right then, I just wanted to get what I had come for, and get out.
After a time, who knows how long, because dark underground tunnel places weren't exactly ideal for keeping time, but anyways, after a long while, we came across a different room. It had a door, which Mark pushed open, and had better light sources.
Don't ask me how; it was brighter. Maybe it was more torches, or brighter torches, but either way, it was definitely better lit than the rest of the tunnels.
In the very center of the room was a pedestal, and on top of it? A pair of sunglasses. 'Huh. Whaddya know? Good job buddy.' I said, walking up to the center.
Mark grabbed the shades quickly, set the torch down, and used both hands to carefully set the glasses on my head, over my eyes.
The world looks different from behind a pair of shades.
Shaking my head, I turned to leave. But Mark pulled at my neck again. I turned to look where he was pointing, and saw a button in the opposite wall from the door I entered in.
I walked over to it, and he pressed it down. Another door opened, but this one led straight outside, no stairs or anything.
Grinning a little bit, I stepped out, and started home, a true Strider I guess.
