Re: Beaumont Collies #1132-1147 (Anniversary Event)

Postby LOSTINUNKNOWN » Thu Mar 13, 2025 11:54 am

While the majority of the stories written for the Beaumont Collies I own are within a mention of a kennel, I imagine the following (1-7) would apply if there was mention of a kennel:

Prompt Number: 1.
Response: 171 words.
Despite the fact that the majority of the collies residing in the kennel deriving their names from the minor gods and goddesses of Greek mythology, the names themselves delegated based upon the manner in which the Beaumont Collies were found as former strays, the kennel is housed within the United States in 1937: Strasburg, Colorado. By consequence of both the various unoccupied portions sporadically drawn upon the town of Strasburg, on par with the fact that the owner had inherited the property from their grandfather, the kennel is structured atop yards of open plains - the majority of which encompassed by a firm metal and oakwood fence, for the sake of training and as a means of accommodating the needs that may arise from the population of collies and livestock of cattle and sheep. The various buildings upon the property are composed of firm stone and tilted wooden pillars that were hand built by the ancestors of the owner, often requiring mending by consequence. There are currently four collies within the kennel.

Prompt Number: 2.
Response: 205 words.
A typical day, by the notion of compliance and no issues between the Beaumont Collies nor staff, takes root in the owner waking at 5:27 AM - subsequently guiding the Collies to the coarse field perched directly beside the kennel for the reason of a restroom break, and feeding the Collies, prior to the roughly five descendants of the owner arriving for their respective shifts at 7:40-8:00 AM. The Collies are seperated into three groups based upon what the descendants specialize in for in the Title Program. The first training session for Comformation begins at roughly 9:00 AM and ceases at 9:30 AM, the first training session for Herding begins at roughly 9:40 AM and ceases at 10:10 AM, and the first training session for Agility begins at roughly 10:20 AM and ceases at 10:50 AM. The descendants allow a 60 minute break for the Collies before the second training sessions for Conformation, Herding, and Agility begin. At around 2:45 PM, the descendants allow for a second restroom break to occur, with the final feeding for the Collies residing at 3:26 PM. The descendants return to their respective homes nearby at 4:40-5:00 PM.

Prompt Number: 3.
Response: 160 words.
Newcomers, whether in terms of distant relatives or those visiting the kennel out of interest/as a tour of the establishment, are often intrigued by the sheer craftsmanship the owner's ancestors toiled to construct the kennel itself - each and every fathomable stone and wooden pillar bound by deft hands of dedication and a desire for safety, as the kennel once served as a home before it was altered by the current owner of the territory - in addition to the various intricate floral and medieval animal designs etched into the interior walls. In regards to newcomers of the Collie varation, they derive their interest from the sheer warmth the descendants bestow upon them, especially given the fact that the majority of them are strays and/or were reared in less than ideal environments under a lack thereof in warmth. Thus, newcomers of the human experience are enamored by the building whilst newcomers of the Collie experience are enamored by the people.

Prompt Number: 4.
Response: 261 words.
For the sake of story purposes and non-literal, the owner enforces the regulations for training and the descendants enacts such via the means of "positive reinforcement", direct interactions with the livestock of the territory, and gravel racing.

Positive reinforcement, within the confines of psychology, is a concept of conditioning that involves the addition of positive reward after a desirable behavior to increase the likelihood of that behavior occurring again - a concept that can be enforced for both humans and other mammals capable of processing the difference between positive and negative consequences. Positive reinforcement is most prominently displayed by the manner in which the descendants that train for Conformation utilize.

Direct interactions with the livestock, the livestock in question serving as the various cattle and sheep that were reared by ancestors prior to the owners obtainment of the property, takes root in positive reinforcement within the first few sessions as to ensure the path of least resistance for later sessions in which the collie is delegated with the task of gathering the cattle and sheep into a specific area or in a specific manner. Such is practiced with the knowledge of potent incidents occurring, and subsequently, a way to cease the incidents once occured.

Gravel racing are operated in a manner much like how Greyhound racing is operated: Using an artificial lure that travels ahead of the Collies to persuade them into chasing it. As conformation isn't required for agility, the descendants responsible for the training induce a desire for the artificial lure into the Collies before they meet the gravel track.

Prompt Number: 13.
Response: Colt: asas bb CC DD EmEm hh II kyky Mm SS tt Uu LL.

Prompt Number: 14.
Response: 1146-1147 = Tucker + Marley.

Prompt Number: 15.
Response: Phorcys is the Collie I favor, solely for the fact that I was under the assumption a few of the other entries would hold precedence over my own. Thus, the fact that I obtained Phorcys was one of which served as a pleasant surprise. Nevertheless, I absolutely adore the accessories he harbors, alongside the juxtaposition of the coat to the eyes.

Prompt Number: 16.
Response: While I am not entirely new to this community, I am not prone to interacting with other members by consequence of my consistently busy schedule. Therefore, I joined the community out of an admiration for the coats of the Beaumont collies, a desire to own a few gorgeous design, and the fact that most often the adopts meet my time limitations.

Prompt Number: 1
Response: Show or tell us the basics of your kennel! Where are you located and what’s it like there, how many collies do you currently have?

Previously when I thought about the set up, I didn't think too hard on logistics. It was reality adjacent lol. Somehow all the collies easily coexisted in the same house with one owner having plenty of time for each and no messes or crowding. For this prompt I tried to imagine how it could work in the real world (or at least slightly more realistic), including all the other species on the ranch. I still think the main owner must have 50hrs in their day compared to everyone else's 24 lol (xxx is the stand in for the main owner's name (they/them)). Despite the many stories featured in my head and for adopts, I haven’t settled on a name.) The setting is a world that's basically like ours but allows for slight differences (like the land ownership deals and slightly higher/more complex animal intelligence).
It’s a large chunk of rural land. There are neighboring farms as well as a mix of public, private, and protected lands surrounding it. The land experiences all four seasons from snow covered freezing winters to hot dry summers. The area is large enough to encompass several ecosystems. Prairies cover the bulk. There's a large deciduous forest in the southwest, a swamp in the southeast that connects to a small inlet bay from the sea. Mountains soften into hills in the east and central north. It has a large mountain lake, a smaller forest lake, and rivers and streams throughout.
The ranch consists of many moving parts on a massive chunk of land. It is all under xxx’s name. The protection, maintenance, and monitoring are their responsibility. The largest portion is not accessible to the public. It is protected land under xxx’s jurisdiction. Both the land and endangered species within are protected, monitored, and maintained. The east portion is where ranching is allowed. A smaller subset is the chunk open to the public side of ranch activities. While xxx is the main owner and organizer, they have teamed up with three other co-owners. The quad is close both within and outside of work. The four have a close community with each other. Each came to the table with different areas of expertise and interest. While they all help each other out, each focuses on a different part of the org.
Ranch includes: Ranching (cattle, sheep, bison, fowl, alpacas, bees, ??), Farming (variety of crops for livestock and humans), animal training, and the wild land research/management. The ranch hosts trainings (for the animals and people), workshops, events, competitions. Xxx has a big interest in animal behavior and welfare so the training isn’t just for sports. They rent out the arenas and buildings to different organizations looking for a place to train and compete, both in the sport and working world. (Focusing on the dog activities- herding, agility, Search and Rescue, scentwork, hunting, therapy/service, detection, etc). There’s a host of people on the ranch at any given time. In the bunkhouses you can find livestock managers, green thumbs (farm crew), maintenance crew, vet, trainers, and interns for all of the above. They also host researchers with grants and have an art residency program (1-2 individuals at a time). The ranch hosts a variety of events including conferences and the occasional wedding which can help with costs. They have plenty of opportunities to intern or volunteer in whichever field someone’s interests may lay! Overall, the ranch produces many goods and services from fully trained working dogs, to livestock and crops, to classes, to a space for a large variety of events.
Some collies sleep in the kennels (which have kennels for both individuals and groups), some sleep in the bunkhouses curled up next to their favorite staff member, some stay with xxx at their house, others stay outside to sleep under the stars, and a few sneak into the barns to sleep with their favorite non-dog friend.
Recently, the ranch reached 50 Beaumont Collies!

Prompt Number: 2
Response: What does a typical day at your kennel look like?
A typical day is both chaos and structure. Everyone eventually finds where they fit in the routine. Animals need to be fed and checked over, livestock need to be moved, crops cared for, trainings completed. For the individual collie, it depends on their job and interests. Some may spend the day moving sheep while another wanders alone in the woods. (I imagine the animals with slightly higher intelligence than real life and more complex communication so they have much more free will and ‘self governing’ than our pets at home). The dogs that aren't as interested in having a job or doing sports have the ability to follow their own interests. Some like chatting all day, others enjoy art, some do puzzle feeders, others read. Group runs with a 4wheeler tend to be a highlight of the week. Each collie tends to have a favorite human that they often follow around throughout the day.
The ranch also has quite a few programs that keep the host of collies active. They lease out collies to trusted neighboring ranchers looking for help with livestock. Borrowing a dog works for all parties; the dogs get a job and the borrower doesn’t have to have a dog full time or pay for training and upkeep. They might only use a dog during the busy season. Young dogs are taken along on trips into town to get valuable experience, training, and exposure. Other dogs go into town for a variety of services and volunteer work like therapy companionship dogs in nursing homes and hospitals, therapy reading dogs in schools, and therapy stress dogs in the airport. Back on the ranch there are plenty of people to care for the dogs. The co-owners, ranch staff, interns, volunteers, and those paying for classes/training in a variety of topics. People come to shadow and train and they get to work with experienced dogs. This also frees the trainers up to focus on the younger or more difficult dogs. They also have a program where some dogs get to go home with people for a night or few. These could be people that just want a dog short term but can’t commit long term or those interested in owning a working dog but this is a while to have a trial run and get experience without fully committing. Junior handlers can borrow a dog if their parents aren’t willing to buy/adopt a dog (yet..). The dogs in these programs also end up getting more one-on-one time.

Prompt Number: 3
Response: What do newcomers find most interesting about your kennel?
Humans: People are usually shocked at the amount of moving parts the ranch is composed of. Everyone said it would be impossible to focus on so many different areas and yet, somehow, the co-owners have a lot of success and stay afloat. They are intrigued by the cooperation and community that has built this organisation. Doubters are surprised to learn and see the level of care that goes into the health of each individual. A lot of time is spent on the welfare of all the animals. People are also interested in the unique coats, colors, and species housed on the ranch.
Dogs/Critters: Animals that haven’t been around many others can be surprised by the number and diversity found here. A lot of abuse cases make their home here and find interactions very different that what they previously knew. Overall, the animals seem interested in the amount of freedom to pursue their own interests and life in general.
(word count 159)

Prompt Number: 4
Response: How do you train your collies, and what are they trained in? Do you compete in our title program?
Training is a mix of standards and case-by-case basis. In general, all the collies are taught some basic cues and handling. During this time the trainers get to know the individual better, both personality and physicality. From there they begin trials where the dog gets to try out different sports and events. Special focus is given for letting dogs do activities that satisfy the instincts for what they were bred to do (herding get to herd, working might cart pull, sledding get to do joring, terriers do barn hunt, etc). Not all dogs stick to what you might expect though! The dogs are trained in whatever they are interested in (and that’s safe for them to do). They often try a variety of sports before settling for a couple. Some dogs have no interest in competitions or much human interaction at all for that matter. Others want to do ALL the things. Some love training but have no interest in work or competitions. This is a working ranch so many of the collies are used on the job. Many of those also compete in herding trials. It really just depends on the dogs! All dogs get the opportunity for mental and physical outlets outside of training as well. Most of the collies are happiest with herding some variety of critter. Most also like to add dock diving, frisbee, tricks, or scentwork.
(Between them all, the humans and dogs have tried just about every sport including but not limited to Agility, Obedience, Trick titles, Canine Freestyle, Joring (bike/scooter/ski), Dock diving, Disc games, Herding, Treibball, Barn Hunt, Tracking/Trailing, Scent work, Cart pull, Flyball, Coursing, Fastcat, Hunting simulation, Field trials, Earthdog trials, Sledding, Schutzhund, etc) (word count 284)

Prompt Number: 5
Response: How do you welcome new collies into your kennel?
The most important thing is going at the collie’s pace. Most dogs need at least a few days to adjust all the sight, smells, and sounds on the ranch before really being introduced and integrated with the others. A few super confident and social dogs jump right in from day 2. Others take weeks to adjust. In general, the first day and night are spent with just one person, exploring the main areas the dog will be in without others in the space. This gives the dog a chance to get used to all the smells and such. Over the next few days, introductions will be done slowly. One resident collie, then a pair, and so on. Some dogs actually do better with a “companion” collie from the beginning to feel more confident in the space. Eventually the newcomer is exposed to bigger groups and more freedom as they grow more comfortable. In the beginning they are given their own small space at night. As they meet more of the pack, they are given options between communal space or individual privacy.

Response: Guess the phenotype/color of at least one of the adult collies
Cassidy - Black and red point merle min white
Brandy - Black Seal Heavy Ticked Min white +cryptic merle?
Marley- Black and Dark Red Brindlepoint Piebald

Prompt Number: 14
Response: Guess the parents of at least one of the litters
Litter 3 - Marley & Tucker

Prompt Number: 14
Response: Show off one of your favorite collies and tell us a little about why they’re your favorite!
How to pick a favorite?!
I was going to go for my first collie but decided on these three. They share a combo of amazing design and some kind of milestone (collie number or in Skölli’s case-the first faulty eryth).
For two of them, significant effort was put into their adopt entries. There are so many incredible creative individuals in the community, it's easy to get intimidated and not enter for stuff because I assume mine won't be good enough. But for Skölli and pepita I was really inspired and excited by my ideas and pushed aside the self doubt to enter.I love their backstories and often use the two in stories.
For Chiliad, I feel so lucky and honored to have a collie created by so many different artists. The shock and gratitude from winning never wears off!

Thank you all so much for participating in Blue Moon Meadows! We hope you’ve had a good time developing your kennels and collies with our event prompts - and now it’s time to use the tickets you’ve earned!
You may apply for as many or as few collies as you’d like - you can place all of your tickets on a single collie, or spread them out across any number of collies in any amount. The only limitation is the number of tickets that you have earned!
The litters will grow and all phenotypes, genotypes, and parents will be revealed after winners have been rolled! All collies will have four breeding slots remaining, even if they are a parent of a litter.
To use your tickets, simply pick out the collie(s) you would like to enter for and post the following form on their page. If you are applying for a puppy, you will do so on the litter’s page (be extra careful to note which puppy you are using your tickets on! puppy 1 = left, puppy 2 = right).
You will have until CS rollover from March 14th to 15th to use your tickets! You may edit your posts at any point up until that time.
