ever the antisocial heifer, buona took two quick glances at betsy and another cow asleep on the path and clenched her jaw, her tail swishing back and forth, before she bounced to the right. her gait sped up around here as the night cow got excited to glance at all the stunning flowers. she didn't have a favorite flower, buona could never pick just one, but she had several that she was a fan of. chrysanthemums were super cute, but it was their scent that the night cow liked most about them. sunflowers were close to buona's first favorite, particularly because they were "the happy flower" that always looked toward the sun. she liked the idea of that. roses, of course, even with as difficult as they were to grow and keep in bloom, were stunning. buona never cared for the fact that they were the symbol of romance and love, but the look of a white rose was so much more elegant than any other flower and she couldn't resist the desire to plant them. lastly, buona admired lily flowers. they reminded her of a tropical vacation and an association with the beach, which was always a good thing.

Phew! Somehow the skies cleared up without ever even raining! Sherbet wouldn’t have minded the rain necessarily, but all the mud and wet might have put a damper on things. The soft heifer was now coming up to yet another split in the path.

How odd! There was another heifer passed out asleep to the arm of the maze to the left. It’d be best to leave her alone, although Sherbet did consider for a brief moment snuggling up beside them for a nap of her own. It might be a little startling to wake up snuggled beside a stranger though, so Sherbet decided against it.

Straight ahead of her, Betsy appeared again! How did she manage to weave in and out of the maze so quickly?? There must be short cuts she knew about. Sherbet was tempted to take this path to ask Betsy about any super secret shortcuts, but was promptly distracted by some budding flowers to the right. “OOOH!” she exclaimed, tearing off in this direction this time.

Of course Sherbet was drawn to flowers, they were all so pretty! When he was still young, she would bring her son Herbert out to the Buttermilk Babies community garden to explore. The pair loved admiring the flowers together, and Sherbet grew fond of any flowering plant that was blue, like her son’s eyes.

"Oh, hiya Betsy!" Disney exclaimed when she came across the heifer. "Oh, do we have any traditions? Yes, we do! We don't have too many, but we do like to party when we've got the chance. Our herd is kinda a place where cows can go to start a new life. Have a clean slate if you want to start over, y'know? That's the main idea of the whole thing. I know it sounds kinda cheesy, but it's our little home. And spring is almost like a new beginning for all the wildlife n' such? Eh? You get where I'm going? Yeah!"

Lennon wandered off to pick around some corn. She'd let Disney handle all the talking.

"Well, we like to get together on the first day of spring to celebrate. It's not a lot, but it's really fun. We rent the little place they use for a local Oktoberfest n' set up some fun activities for the kiddos n' stuff. We have a little dancin' tent sorta thing, musicians, a campfire to tell stories around, and things like that! It's a really dandy time! Honestly, if any of y'all ever want to come n' check it out anyone is welcome. We aren't exclusive."

Lennon smiled. "I know Disney likes to hype things up, but I've only been to a few and even I can't disagree. It really is quite a bit of fun!" (234)

prompt (200 words min.) -- As Bedelia nears the next intersection, she is shocked to hear... snoring? To her left, a spotted grey cow sleeps in the middle of the path. Although she's a little confused, Bedelia doesn't want to awaken her. That would just be rude!
Straight ahead, there is Betsy again, this time talking to a group of cows. After the fiasco with the rain, Bedelia has decided she's spent enough time in the maze and doesn't have time to stop and chat.
Finally she turns to her right, and her mouth drops open. Growing among the corn are none other than are the most beautiful flowers, flowers that she's only seen growing in one place. As she starts down the path, she is certain that they are the same, although she doesn't know how they traveled the ten mile distance to get here. These are Miraclilies and only grow in the perfect conditions. Bedelia had previously thought these conditions could only be met in the hidden wildflower patch down a trail from her childhood house in the Miracle Mountains (which is where they got the name for the flowers.) She and her grandma had gone there on many occasions, sometimes to just marvel at their intricate, vibrant beauty and other times to pick a bouquet for a special event. Either way, though, these flowers quickly became her favorite and always reminded her of her grandma.
Now, Bedelia decides picking one couldn't hurt, and grabs an especially beautiful one to put behind her ear as she continues walking. (255 words)

Fiona thinks of the question proposed to her, her eyes lighting up at the thought of talking about her home and the friends she loves with all of her heart.

"My best friends are amazing! Shysie, she's such a sweetie, even though she can't talk. She's got some kind of thing that pretty much keeps her from talking, but she has learned to write but also use sign language so she can talk to us! I am still learning the basics but she's such a patient girl- And then there's Sully, who's super rough around the edges but once you get to know her she's a pretty cool person. Super loyal, really funny, and man can she throw a punch! And then there's Zoe! Zoe is a barista at the local café we have in the valley. She's really social and just likes to do her own thing on her own time. She's one of the nicest girls you could ever meet!

"As for traditions? Oh, Firefly Valley as a boatload of em, there's always something going on! I think one of my favorite traditions we have is the welcoming blankets. You see, every time a new herd member is welcomed into the valley, there's a blanket that they get as a housewarming gift. Each blanket is handmade by two of our staff, all handwoven and everything, and then they will embroider the name of the newest member into one of the corners! I still have mine, as everyone pretty much does. It's the softest thing ever and it always reminds me of how wonderful this place is." (268 words)

Her eyes softened as she wandered down the path carefully trying not to step on the flowers as she admired them delicately. She looked at down at them thinking of her favourite flower. Her favourite flowers were Lily of the Valley's, they were positively beautiful and stunning. She loved when they grew in every year in her garden outside. Her and Venus spent a lot of time setting up their gardens, both of them had their own. She remembered when she was younger running through a field of them, the last memories of her mother. It was something she could never forget and every time she saw the flowers it brought her about, it allowed her to see her mother's voice and hear her voice whispering into her ears. It made her so happy and made it precious. She looked towards the other end of the path as she softly made her way down through the maze to the next point.

Almost as soon as the rain came it was gone. Ghostly stood up and promptly shook herself off. This maze was just full of surprises, because, look. "Princess flowers?" She gasped. These were the same flowers she had found in the egg hunt a couple of days ago. The same flowers she had named with her mother by the river so many years ago. "They seem to flourish here." She picked one by the butt of the stalk. "Look at me talking to a flower all alone in a corn maze." She placed it behind her ear just as her mother had so many years ago. "But, maybe I'm not alone.." She looked to the sky, the clouds still clearing from the storm. "Mom? are you there? Oh, who am I kidding?" She had never felt so alone in all these years than she did right now. But just as her heart sank a beam of light broke through the clouds and hit the spot where the flowers grew. Looking up to the sky once more the beam widened just enough to surround Ghostly and the clump of flowers. "Maybe, I'm not alone." She smiled at the sky, alone in the corn maze. With a Princess flower tucked behind her ear.

Day 4

prompt -- Frisco decided to not even necessarily think about where he was wandering at this point, choosing to instinctively move down the right path this time. Ironically, it was also one of the only directions he hadn't gone yet. Frisco was pretty invested in his thoughts and watching the sky slowly shift colors again from the murky gray to blue and almost missed the flowers along the path as a result. Once he noticed the small, colorful plants he smiled to himself slightly. He wasn't much of a gardener or anything himself. He couldn't grow a plant to save his life.
Regardless, he remembered his friends that would have extravagant gardens in their yards, with big pots in the house. He never knew any flowers beyond the normal roses, but he loved all of the pretty plants and budding flowers. His favorite was one of the orange flowers with petals that spread backwards, their centers sprouting forward in thin stalks with pollen tips. They always reminded him of tigers and, in fact, he was almost positive they were a tiger something. As much as he liked the flowers and his friend's lovingly rambling about their plants, he had a hard time remembering the names.
The flower still held a special thought in his mind and he would definitely have to ask his friends for the exact name when he got the chance. [231W]

    prompt (200 words min.) --
It took surprisingly long to get to the next intersection this time around, and by the time she finally got there, it appeared that the thunderclouds had cleared. This time, when she inspected the paths ahead, there were two that had other cows! One was Betsy, as per usual, but the other was one she had never met before. The grey heifer appeared to be taking a snooze right in the middle of the path. How lazy. Skye considered taking that route just so she could wake her up.

The cow-less path had a surprising amount of flowers, especially considering Skylar hadn't seen them anywhere else in the maze. Upon noticing them, she immediately thought of her farm-mate Bloom, who absolutely adored flowers. If she were here she would definitely take that route, and then probably stay there. That's ridiculous. Only a sissy cow would take a route purely for the flowers.

Straight ahead, Betsy seemed more chatty than usual. No thank you. Not going that way. Skye was determined to get out of the maze at some point, not just stand around talking all day. That left only one option.

Skye looked to her left, a somewhat menacing grin growing on her muzzle. This was gonna be fun. She stormed down the path, stomping as hard as she could before screeching to a halt and spraying dirt towards the sleeping cow, who awoke with a start.

Skylar cackled, trotting around the bovine and taking off before she could do anything about it, "Get off your lazy butt!! This is a maze!"

The heifer never had very high opinions of lazy bovine, she typically saw them as pathetic, and she thought it was unfair to everyone else when they chose to slack off.

Gal was like 80% sure this cow had to be somewhat magical. No way could she just keep...disappearing and reappearing otherwise. Gal wasn't sure if she was invisible or could just straight up teleporting, but something was afoot here. But then, why would someone with so much power be running a corn maze? Weird. It seemed like a waste of those abilities, honestly. Why do this when you could be a super hero? Maybe she just...really liked mazes? That would be big chaotic energy, for sure. Or maybe she was some sort of corn witch, tied to the crop because of an oath with a very old good. That would explain why she could melt in and out of the fields at will, right? Either way, she supposed it would be rude not to answer the questions thrown at her. And, just in case, it wouldn't do to pissed off a Corn Witch.

Gal complied with the questions, trying not to think too hard about saying the wrong thing and ending up turned into an ear of corn. She told the being before her about her small little group of friends and their love of tabletop. She maybe even got a little too into things and started breaking down character stats. Fortunately, the potential witch didn't seem to mind.
