What's In My Bag?
1. A bundle of lavender. Smells sweet and fresh, and it intoxicates the mind. Allows anything it touches to pick up its scent. After three weeks of sitting in the backpack, the leaves are beginning to turn crusty and lifeless.
2. A roll of duct tape. For all of life's emergencies that can be patched up with sticky plastic.
3. Scissors. To cut off strips of duct tape. Or remove a pesky price tag. Or for crafts. Whatever. They don't cut too well; the owner is right-handed and the scissors are for those rare lefties.
4. Driver's license. Custom, made by the government. For proving that our Jett Beryl is who he told the DMV he was.
5. A book. Torn at the cover, beginning to grow mold since a leaky water bottle seeped into the backpack. The writing inside is still as powerful as ever. Who knows who wrote it?
6. A pair of earbuds. Came with the smartphone. Like new condition.
7. Cracked smartphone. Not connected to a phone number and doesn't have access to the internet, but still plays a personal collection of music.
8. A spare binder. In case something happens to the one Jett is wearing, or in case some kid needs it.
9. Loose schoolwork papers. Haven't been removed since graduation last semester. Decent grades.
10. Dog treats. To be distributed indiscriminately to dogs, whether homeless or pampered.
11. Fresh banana bread in a ziploc bag. The snack that's been on his mind since early this morning.
12. An empty milk bottle. Completely clean. Not an antique.
13. A croton plant, with Jet (lignite) and Beryl (known for its impurities) embedded in the soil. A very healthy plant. It's the reason why there's crumbles of soil in the bottom of the backpack. Lucky item number thirteen.

What's In My Soul?
Jett is spiritual by nature, and he's constantly searching for answers to unanswerable questions. His plant, with his two special gems in it, is very important, hence why he carries it around everywhere. He believes that having a representation of yourself outside of your own body helps you understand yourself better. After rigorous work graduating from medical school, Jett is pairing his knowledge with his spirituality. He runs a business, Dr. Jett Beryl's Holistic Medicine (We'll Help You Beryl Through Your Problems), where he gets an intake of every patient to gauge their character, and then creates a combination of a plant and several gems unique to each patient. He treats each patient using all of the traditional techniques, but uses the plant as a healing aid. If the plant is taken good care of, Jett theorizes, the patient is more likely to take care of themself and will therefore find better success in healing.
