It feels like he's won... well.
Something for sure. Haywing pads his way proudly to the lake today, a gleam in his eyes. A big fish! He'd caught a big fish! He hadn't let himself hope for one when he'd started, because hoping for one meant that hope was just as likely to be dashed - but he had managed, falling into the water in his efforts to drag it out but still winning against it.
Of course, that means today it's just as likely he'll catch a small fish. One couldn't count on their luck lasting so many days in a row, or at least he tried not to. Best not to expect too much right off the bat; it meant that any good things that came your way felt all the sweeter. He shan't hope for a big fish today - but this just means if he catches another one, he'll be all the more pleased with himself.
He finds a different spot now, because he's earlier than he was yesterday, and the sun is shining differently. Distantly, he thinks of writing to Bluebell after today; something about it feels right, feels important.
....Even if the message will likely only be delivered by himself,
after all this. With him here, and Cliff as one of the camp counselors, he rather doubted the message would be making its way back any time soon.
