Passion

"I've always been interested in crafts and such, but that all changed one day I was in the kitchen. Growing up in an orphanage was ok heck I am still here, however, I am here to tell you about the day I discovered my true passion. It was an early morning, I'd say maybe 4 am in the morning and I wanted to show everyone at the orphanage some kindness and give back to them so I got out a cookbook and got to work. I loved the way my hands felt on the soft doe when I was rolling it. I had picked a simple recipe, powdered donut. As time flew by it was finally time to take them out of the oven. They where done, I placed juice mostly orange juice since it was my favorite! I carefully placed a napkin by their plates, with a fork for those who didn't want to mess their fingers up. As my fellow bunkmates and out 'parents' came out they asked what I have done. I told them and they simply smiled and sat down. Scared I took my place at the table and placed the warm powdered donut to my lips, I took one bit and it was one of the sweetest things I have ever tasted. I looked around as the others where eating and they simply gave me a smile and asked for more. That was the start of my true passion."

Travel, food, and meeting others

The water glistened the loveliest shade of blue, almost as if it was straight out of a fairy tale. The clouds felt so close as if I could reach them if I tried. Travel. My passion.

I was a food writer and got to travel the world. I've been told I have the best job, and I can't disagree. There ain't much better than getting free trips around the world to try the best foods each country has to offer.

I felt my lunch drop and the airplane began to lower onto the tracks below. To my right was ocean as far as the eye could see and to my left were soft green rolling plains. It was gorgeous. Welcome to Hawaii.

My eyes gleamed as the plane landed. I couldn't wait to try all the island had to explore.

I sat alone at the picnic table, watching the soft white sand and the waves of blue-green water crash onto the shore. There was something serene about being out in nature.

I had a few days to enjoy Hawaii before I began writing about my second passion. Food.

I got a whiff of a meat and sweet bread aroma. It smelled incredible, and looking down at the meager salad I bought for myself seemed small in comparison. A group of locals was gathered on the other side of the gazebo, enjoying what seemed to be a party.

"Sweetheart, come join us," said an elderly kalon behind me. She placed a plate filled with chili, a hot dog, sweet Hawaiian bread, and what appeared to be some sort of jelly-like treat. She smiled at me and gestured for me to sit with them.

The children told me stories of their people, while the elders explained their traditions. Though I had only been in this state for less than a day, I felt at home with the kind kalons.

They told me the jelly-like treat was made out of the root of the taro plant. I learned the history of the Polynesian people. I played in at the beach, enjoying a day filled with fun.

That was what I loved about others. Why I had a passion to meet new people. It was the cultures they brought and the kindness they shown that was why I had a passion to befriend and simply talk to others.

damien struggles with insomnia and anxiety, so he stays awake for many hours each day and night. although this is hard on him and his sleeping schedule, his favorite thing about this is being able to watch both the sunset and sunrise. he loves them both equally.

the sunset signifies the end to a day and the start of a long night, which also gives chances to do whatever he wants to do. when damien is awake at night, no one will bother him. that's when he does most of his creative work, like drawing or painting. sketching with a pencil and using a paintbrush calms him down, so he's not as afraid of his demons.

the sunrise signifies the end to the night and the start of a long day, which allows him to do another thing he loves. drawing and painting is just a hobby because damien's true passion is sculpting with clay. unlike other sculptors, he uses a variety of colors and mixes them together. it almost looks like he's playing with playdoh, and that's kind of what it's like.
