In his defense, growing up in the city didn't allow for much contact with his newfound favorite animal. Ponds weren't a common sight along the concrete sidewalks. All he ever knew was from picture books. They were absolutely elusive in his world and that made them all the more fascinating. It wasn't until his school trip to the local zoo did he finally get to see one in person. To this day it remains one of the best moments in his little life.
