favourite riddle;
we hurt without moving and poison without touching. we bear truth and lies, and are not to be judged by size. however, we
can also brighten someone's day and offer consolation amidst the fray. what are we?
ans; words
why;
the power of language was always an important part of megumi, especially for someone who was never particularly strong in
areas such as math and science. language arts was her forte, and in a world where math and science were the rulers of one's
success, megumi was perceived to be "less intelligent" than the kalons who excelled in those areas. words... when used right,
they have the power to hurt or heal. in megumi's case, the taunting phrases thrown in her face by her professors and peers
were nothing if not cruel. "why does megumi hide her face in those books of hers? doesn't she know that just being good at
language arts is fruitless? smarten up! learn something useful like mathematics and remember the periodic table for once!"
despite the way those words carved wounds into megumi's confidence and gouged at her self esteem, she found solace in the
wonders of her books. the characters in those books always had a motive, and were strong up until their very last breaths.
they believed that they could achieve whatever they dared to dream of, and megumi wanted nothing more than to become
a character in her books. however, it just wasn't possible for her to become one with her books. all megumi could do was hide
behind the papery thin pages that served as a wall between her and the rest of the world. it wasn't until after high school
that megumi realized that she had a certain way with those words and could manipulate them to her way of success.
after high school, megumi started to write. at first they were mere journal entries, expressing how she felt during her high
school days and what her days are like now. however, it wasn't enough to satisfy her inner needs, so she started to write the
type of stories that she always loved reading. each word made their mark on her audiences, and megumi spun tales so intricate
and elaborate that it left her readers breathless. the words were her soldiers, and megumi was the commander. she left a
perlocutionary effect and forced her readers to feel the emotions that they were supposed to feel. this was megumi's way at
getting back at the world who had been so cruel to her at first, and through her words she proved that she could be successful
as well. math and science weren't her rulers, but language was.

"as i sing, i weave melodies of sorrow. it is not my choice to make,
but rather the path that has been destined for me. aren't i not a
despicable being? my success comes from the mistakes of others,
and everyone knows that i purposely try to persuade the other
kalons to make mistakes. it suits my objectives, so why shouldn't
i? nevertheless, the fact that i am cruel remains unchanged."
megumi blanched when she glanced at her shaking paw, struggling
to think of words to write. that would never do, she decided, as
she crumpled up the sheet of paper that lay in front of her and
tossed it into the waste bin. letting out a sigh, she reached for a
math textbook and ran a paw down the cover.
"i should have been reviewing the subject of polynomials. it's
been a while since that subject was last introduced to the class,
and i still don't completely understand," she murmured, before
taking out a new sheet of blank paper to do her questions on. the
kalon despised math, but she had to attempt to keep up in order
to prevent her grades from slipping. just being proficient in the
art of language wouldn't be sufficient for megumi to receive her
diploma.
"i'm not quite as terrible as you make me out to be. i've been jeered
out and laughed at and made fun of. still... i have plans for this
world. i will make you all regret what you have done to me and
my song. this time, i will be the dominant figure. not you."
"i wish i could be as straightforward and brave as my characters,"
megumi decided, before she began working on her questions.

"'there is still hope!' i scream to myself as
loud as i can, for if i don't, i will never let
myself lift my head up in pride. 'i am not
a failure; i'm just different. i'm good at
things that others are not.' but all i want
is to be normal, not special. why am i not
the same as everyone else?
to this day, i still do not know why. perhaps
there truly is something wrong with me."ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
"hey, what are you writing, megumi?" a voice called out, as the brown furred kalon lifted her head quizzically. after identifying the voice, she
smiled gently and shifted her body slightly. the action was casual enough to not raise any awareness from the other kalon, but it had covered
the other kalon's view of the paper that megumi had been writing on. no one would really care or notice the way megumi discreetly hides her
creations from the eyes of others, as the only thing that they really focus on would be her skill in math and science. "is that a new story of
some sort?"
"why, you know me too well!" megumi exclaimed, letting out a small laugh and covering her mouth daintily while she did so. shifting again,
the brown furred kalon turned around to face the other kalon fully in the eyes. "it's nothing important, though; i know i ought to work on
those worksheets that our teacher assigned to us, but i had this marvelous idea in my head and it would be a waste if i didn't jot it down.
who knows, maybe one day after i've pulled my grades up, i can finally work on all of those unfinished writing projects that i always
wanted to complete."
"that would be the wiser thing to do, i guess. after all, your grades are your first priority, are they not?" the only kalon inquired, as megumi
nodded her head. however, she had a wistful smile on her as she nodded. suddenly, the pink eyed kalon turned around and grabbed the sheet
of paper. taking it into her paws, she crumpled it into a small ball before standing up to throw it away into the waste bin. the other kalon
was clearly surprised, as they followed megumi across the room. "hey, why'd you do that? that was a perfectly nice idea you had that you
just threw away! what's the deal?"
megumi paused in her actions, letting a conflicted look drift across her face before blinking it away. "i'm not sure what you're talking about.
you're right, my studies should come first. the stories will always be here with me, even after i leave them alone for a bit. they'll still be
here once i finish my exams. that story idea... it wasn't as fleshed out and creative as i would've liked it to be, that's why i threw it out.
there will be more opportunities to create stories, but now is not the time." sighing, the brown furred kalon nodded at the other kalon
again, but this time she seemed tired. "at least, that's what i'd like to tell myself. they should still be here once i return, though..."
