    Buttermilk: vrochi
    Prompt:
Vrochi happily glided into the greenhouse, she couldn’t wait to see the little sprouts that would be popping out of the freshly planted soil. When she came upon her pot she let out a gasp of surprise, “no growth, how can that be?” she immediately began to scan the greenhouse for any sign of something that could aid the little seeds with their growth. Her eyes fell upon a pitcher of water, “ahh perfect,” she said with a sigh of relief. She made her way over to the water, when suddenly she caught sight of a bright green bag sticking out from behind a cluster of pots. She glanced left, then right to make sure nobody was around, then grabbed the bag of fertilizer, “hopefully they won’t mind if I use just a little,” she said to herself. Vrochi then made her way back to her own terracotta pot, with both water and fertilizer in hand.

Vrochi, with gloved hands, started to mix the fertilizer into the soil of her pot. She then grabbed the pitcher of water and added a healthy amount of liquid to nourish the seeds. Soon after, she removed her gloves and dusted off her hands and said, “if that doesn’t make you little guys grow, then I don’t know what will.” Then she patted the side of the pot, returned the borrowed fertilizer, and made her way out the greenhouse doors.

Buttermilk: Bloom
Prompt:
Listening to the birds twittering in the trees, Bloom followed the long cobblestone path leading to Sorrel's greenhouse. She looked through the glass before entering the building, excitement bubbling up in her stomach. "I can't wait to see my cute little sprout!" she said to herself under her breath.

Once she entered the warm, humid greenhouse, Bloom eagerly made her way through the rows of planter boxes and tables with pots and planters of all shapes and sizes. As her hooves padded across the stone slabs, she breathed in the earthy aroma of her surroundings, and the sweet perfume of the occasional flower she passed.

When she finally approached the small table at the back lined with terracotta pots, she immediately went looking for hers, but once she found it and gave it a quick inspection, her smile fell, realizing that there was not a single sprout. That couldn't be right!

The lop-eared heifer lifted her orange pot and took it to her quiet, secluded corner from the previous day. Setting the down the pot onto the cool ground and crouching next to it, she gave the soil another look-over. Bloom sighed, "Really? Not a single sprout? But I was sure I did everything right yesterday!" Nothing, nada, zilch. "I can't disappoint Sorrel either," the cow said to herself, feeling a slight bit of shame. "I guess I just find to figure out how to fix this."

Bloom stood up from her spot and began to explore the greenhouse some more, looking for anything she could that would give her some extra information. She stumbled upon a tattered, ripped journal titled "Plant Care", "Huh, I'm sure Sorrel wouldn't mind if I took a quick look through, it is for the benefit of the plant after all." Bloom pushed the pages with her nose, scanning through the paragraphs, "Aha!"

"Maybe the seeds just needed to be warmer in order to germinate?" she considered, trotting back over to her pot. She picked it up and quickly found a row of warm, orange light-emitting sun lamps and hurried that way. She place the terracotta pot under the lights, "I'm sure Sorrel won't mind..."

    current prompt - day 3: (ends 04/16/20 @3pm EST)

It's been several days now since you've planted your seeds and, so far, you haven't seen anything put a pot of dirt. You walk slowly, a bit anxious about what you'll find, to check on your seeds and... oh! Is that a sprout? Right there, in the center of your pot, is a tiny little sprout starting to poke out of the soil. It's still just an itsy bitsy thing, really, but you can't help but feel a little emotion.

How does your buttermilk feel about the seeds sprouting? Do they think they can continue to help it grow?

Buttermilk: Matcha
Prompt:
Matcha had become dedicated to ensuring the heathy growth of these little seeds. Every day that she ventured to the farmer's market, she made sure to stop by the greenhouse first thing in order to check on her seedlings. After a few days of her hard work, she noticed something extraordinary.

"Oh my gosh! Look at you little guys! You're finally starting to sprout!" she scream whispered excitedly to her little seeds, as if actually shouting in excitement would disturb the plants. She picked up her pot and inspected the sprout to get a closer look. Her mind raced as she wondered what kind of plant those seeds were holding. The flowery heifer gently placed the pot back down, and continued her new daily routine she had established for the care of the seeds. Matcha was no plant expert, but whatever she was doing, it must've been right, because her little seed babies were finally starting to grow up!

    Buttermilk: Nessa
    Prompt:

Nessa scanned the collection of pots for the one with her name. She looked down at hers with disappointment when it didn't have the little green plant all the others did. But wait... could it be? She squinted and leaned in to look at the soil. It was nothing but a tiny seedling just getting its first breath of fresh air, but Nessa's eyes lit up with joy and a small tear admittedly slipped out from her eye. She ever-so-gently stroked the tiny green thing, proud of her accomplishment. Then and there, she Nessa it Primrose, and quietly promised she would do whatever it took to keep the little plant growing. She had never once tried planting before this, but she was sure as hell going to keep on doing it if it was this rewarding. Planting was her newfound joy. She stood up and looked around the greenhouse. Sorrel was about to get a hug, whether she wanted one or not. (162)

Buttermilk: [Takara]
Prompt:

Plant!

The tiny speck of greenery was the most amount of greenery Takara had ever managed to plant and care for, so the blinding success of even getting the start of a stem and a leaf was exciting - but oh, dear, getting this far was trying enough on her nerves - caring for it long enough to watch it become an actual plant-y plant - bushy or full of stalks or flowers or - what other shapes of plants were there? - was going to wear her through, if she didn't watch herself.

Carefully, she measured out some water and poured it into the dirt, then turned the pot a little, fixing the angle of the sun on the tiny sprout. There were so many things to worry about - overwatering, under-watering, too much sun, too little sun, too hot, too cold... and not just air temperature, no, there was also the temperature of the water. She could at least trust the dirt, she thought - it had been provided, after all.

Buttermilk: Viola
Prompt:
As soon as Viola stepped into the greenhouse, she could sense something had happened, rushing over to her plot she spots the small sprout peeking up from the moist soil, causing her to let out a loud whoop in excitement.

"Gah, FINALLY! Now I don;t ever have to come back to this disgusting, repulsive, moldy little greenhouse ever again! Viola's time here has ENDED ladies and gentlemen!" She cheers, hopping up and down excitedly. "Thank heavens that's over, now I can go back to my balcony, a glass of peach tea in my hand... Ah, how lovely that sounds right about now, I cannot wait to get back home!"

She rushes to retrieve her Valentino white bag from the cubby, fishing her sunglasses out of one of the pockets and setting them daintily on her face with a pleased sigh. She moves to step out of the greenhouse, a wave of guilt hitting her like a freight train. She dares to look back at the little sprout, the small plant looking quite lonely in it's plot in the far corner of the establishment. Viola shakes her head, trying with all of her might to will away the guilt weighing in the pit of her stomach. With a heaving sigh, she slumps back to the plant, putting on her gloves and caring for it as she did everyday... and will for as long as it takes. (236 words)

Sorrel's Greenhouse - OPEN

Postby ptarmigan » Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:11 am

username: ptarmigan
buttermilk: buona!
prompt: as she suspected, there was a tiny sprout after a few days! patience was key with gardening and she felt an intense emotion of pride swell up in her chest. buona was always attached to her plants and treated them like they were her children (a bit odd, yes, but whatever kept the 14 green houses at snowdrift vale producing enough food to feed everyone) so when a plant that didn't look like it would have the best outcome ends up with new growth, the night cow felt unnecessarily excited about such tiny improvements. happy about the new growth, buona leaned down and whispered a few words of encouragement to the growing sprout before moving the pot to be closer to the clear walls of the greenhouse. it would be warmer there and get more light, but not too much (it would dry out if it was in direct sunlight) and she knew it was the perfect spot for the sprout.

Buttermilk: Bedelia
Prompt: The moment Bedelia saw the tiny little sprout, she literally jumped for joy and gave a loud whoop, startling everyone who happened to be browsing the greenhouse's selection. Bedelia didn't seem to notice their strange expressions, though, and immediately scooped the pot up in her arms, dancing over to where Sorrel was working.
"Oh, Sorrel, look! I did it! I doubted myself, but I did it!" Bedelia exclaimed, grinning from ear to ear.
After releasing another whoop, she pranced back to the corner of the greenhouse without waiting for a response. Once the pot was safely back in its place, Bedelia let out a sigh and stepped back to admire her work proudly, still smiling. After a little while, though, her shoulders slumped and she sat down by the pot with a humph, resting her head in her hands. She had realized that now she was at a loss again and had no idea what to do to keep the little thing growing. Did it need more soil? Or maybe another watering can's worth of water? She mentally scratched off both these options, though, as the pot was full of soil and was still soaking wet. Also, the sprout surely didn't need more food already, as it had a whole apple in the pot to eat from a few days ago, and it was so small. There surely wasn't anything else she could do for it, was there? Deciding that she was satisfied, she kissed her little sprout goodbye and left for the day. (254 words)

    Buttermilk: Crowley
    Prompt:
How does your buttermilk feel about the seeds sprouting? Do they think they can continue to help it grow?

Thank someone. They squinted at the little sprout, a soft huff leaving them that said, at best 'this was acceptable'. Just in time too - Crowley was just about to hit the end of what had been, in their opinion, a very generous metaphorical patience rope. Tail flickering once, they ducked down, touching the dirt softly to test it's moisture levels, examining it carefully for signs of rot. Then, without a word they moved off, gathering supplies. This sprout would flourish into the greenest plant this greenhouse had ever seen, or they would destroy it. It was a simple goal really and they were determined to see it through till the end, for better or worse. "That's better," they growled as they added some plant food. "Keep this up and you just might make it through this." This plant would learn to fear respect them or it would wilt. Only time would tell."
