Buttermilk: Ghostly

Prompt: "What a disaster," Ghostly muttered to herself as she entered the farmers market this morning. "How could one duck possibly do this much damage?" She walked around heading toward the duck pond looking in awe at the sheer amounts of damage done. Many of the venders were visibly upset at the vandalism, she could feel the pain as she walked by. The duck would just have to wait to be found today. She had to help rebuild the stalls that were destroyed but the foul fowl. She started by cleaning all the mud and mess that was made so the venders could start rebuilding. It took hours to just clean the messes that were made but it was finally done. Most of the stalls were fixed but she helped out where she could. At this point, it was near noon with no sign of the dastardly duck. She asked around for a bit and no one appeared to have seen it today. The only clues he could have left were fixed and cleaned up this morning. She would just have to wait and see if he strikes again tonight.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 2
Username: BadgerBuddies
Buttermilk: Bakari
Prompt:
Bakari had heard of the trouble her Buttermilk Babies herd mate Daffodil was having at the farmer’s market. Of all the Buttermilks to call in, Bakari was the right choice. As an expert in animal sciences and wildlife biology, Daffy was hoping that the penguin colored heifer would be able to help, and as quickly as possible.

“Daffy, you need to understand, it’s going to take me awhile to formulate the best plan of action” Bakari explained to the sea lion colored heifer. “This won’t be a rash decision, winging it type of plan like you might prefer. I know this duck needs to be reigned in, but we need to do so in the best way possible! Without stressing out the animal!”

Daffy huffed, as she could consider herself as an animal who was experiencing stress, but she let her herd mate continue on, as she knew she needed all the help she could get.

Bakari turned her attention to the damage around her, shocked that one simple duck caused all this destruction. She sighed, and knew that her research and observations of the duck to formulate a plan to capture it would need to be put on the back burner for the current moment. She shuffled away from Daffy and began to pick of the pieces of the mess left behind by Hurricane Duck.

Buttermilk: Adalind
Prompt:
Adalind states at the chaos in disbelief. “You want to tell me that this was just one duck?? How is that even possible? I mean, I’m out of words.” She looked around once more, still not believing what she was seeing. “I’m really sorry, I would help you find that duck but no one has seen it yet and I think I could be more of a help if I stayed here and cleaned up with the others, I really hope you understand that. But I promise that afterwards I’ll help you to find that duck.” Adalind quickly made her way through all the booths to check how big the disaster was. After that, she decided to first help at the booth, which looked the worst. “I still can’t believe that this all was just one little duck”, she muttered to herself while cleaning up the mess. When she and some other cows had finished cleaning up the booth and she went to check on the other booths, it finally hit her how big the chaos actually was. More than half of the booths still looked like a mess and it was almost afternoon already. “If the cleaning goes like it went the whole noon, we won’t be finished with cleaning up until after the sunset, I don’t think I can help search that duck today, but I’ll make sure to help search tomorrow. Given that there will not be such a disaster tomorrow too...

    Buttermilk: Halley
    Prompt:
Halley laughed as she came across the chaos in the farmer’s market.

All around her, people were franticly cleaning their booths, trying to repair the damage done. ‘That sneaky little quacker,’ she thought with a grin. Booth owners glared at her for finding such delight in it, but she simply smiled at them and gave a little wave.

“No help from you, then!” one shouted.

She shouted, quite loudly, in response, “Of course not – I’m on the hunt!”

“Now it’s time to see what these clues tell me,” she mumbled to herself, pulling out her journal from her pocket. Slowly, Halley crept around the grounds, inspecting the muddy footprints the duck left behind. She followed them around, noting the direction of the footprints at each booth. Surely she could trace his path through the farmer’s market!

She managed to find the first booth to be accosted by the duck, but had no luck finding footprints leading towards it. “Hmm,” Halley mumbled under her breath, mind spinning with all the new information – webs slowly forming in her mind and connecting to each other. She crouched down to the ground and swiped a finger through a muddy footprint, then brought it to her nose to sniff it. What was that smell? She couldn’t quite place it.

Another mumble under her breath, this one inaudible. She swiped the mud on one of the pages of the journal and blew on it until it dried down. Then she went on her way, tracking the muddy footprints once more.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 2
Username: Yodel
Buttermilk: Alli
Prompt:
When Alli arrived at the farmer’s market the next morning, she was just as shocked as everyone else at the damage that had been done overnight. Who knew such a little creature could be so destructive? She almost found it amusing imagining the little guy chewing at the booths as she sniffed one of the feathers on the ground. But the thought quickly vanished when her concern over the damage really set in.

Daffodil, the heifer in charge of the ducks was asking the various cows who were offering their assistance to split into two groups, continuing to search for the duck and attempt to track it down or stay behind to repair the destruction. Alli hesitated, she was torn between the two sides. On one hoof, she wanted to help find the lost little duck, put in her efforts to find the little guy before he got hurt, but on the other, it was in her nature to help where she could and the market desperately needed it. It was also important to note that quite a big portion of the cows seemed uninterested in the chore of cleaning up and had instead opted to chase after the duck, no doubt it was because it seemed far more interesting and adventurous.

Alli knew that she would probably be the most helpful if she chose to stay behind, and ultimately that’s what she had decided. When it was her turn to make a decision, she told Daffy, “Um, I’d like to stay behind and help clean the place up so things can get up and running again!”

Alli isn’t a particularly handy heifer, so she picked up one of the buckets of soapy water and washcloths, sat herself down at a booth and began to scrub the muddy webbed footprints off the side. “I wonder how that even got there?”

"I can’t believe so many of you returned again to help find the duck! I even saw a few new faces today! Not to mention, so many kind souls pitching together to help our the Farmer’s Market community in a time of need! We all can’t thank you enough, and here are 6 sunflower seeds for each of you who pitched in, as a token of everyone’s gratitude.

Now, back to business. It’s Day 3 and our attempts to catch this duck haven’t been going so well. I hope you’ll all stick with me today in our efforts to curb the shenanigans of this last duck running amok!”

Please check the main page for updates for sunflower seeds and to check out the third prompt!

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 3
Username: ♔Voltaire♔
Buttermilk: Soot
Prompt:
"Man this duck is something else! Well, first I would ask the farmer for the half-eaten veggies, I am sure no one would want them after they have been mauled! I would cut the remaining pieces up and possibly make a trail of food pieces back to the booth in hopes of luring him back! I would definitely try and reason with the farmer when I ask to keep some good produce out as another incentive, and I would ask for some cucumbers, beans, and peas for the little treasure trove I will have set up! Hopefully it will lure the duck back and we can catch him! We could possibly leave some fruit at other booths too, in hopes that the duck will see em and then make his way over to them. Doing that can lead him to the food trail and hopefully bring him back here where we can set up some type of trap."

daffy’s great duck hunt - day 3
username: ptarmigan
buttermilk: buona!
prompt: buona thought this was beginning to get kind of silly, but resisted a loud huff and glanced at the farmer's stand and back at the daffy. with one decisive move, buona walked over to the farmer's stand and gave the smoothest smile she could. "so, i heard you were stolen from last night?by this damned duck?" the night cow's accent was suddenly stronger (most people thought it was endearing, she hoped this was the case with the farmer). "i can catch this duck and keep him from your farm stand. but im going to need any bag of barley - maybe one with a hole in it - and some oats. the ducks at snowdrift vale really like that mixture. think you could help me, and everyone at this market, out?" she knew the ducks would come if she laid out a trail and left it leading into a large enough pen where they wouldn't feel enclosed.

    Prompt:
"Oh, so he's messin' up all the fruits n' veggies, is he now? Looks like we're gonna have to lure him in with some of it. The ducks I grew up with enjoyed a bite of watermelon or two, so I think I'll give that a shot. Oh boy, they went wild! Plus, good ol' watermelons are a pretty decent-sized fruit, so they're sure to catch the rowdy bird's attention. If we hide around the corner or somethin' I think we'd be able to throw a net over him when he comes around!

"Now, how am I going to get this watermelon? Well, I think I can offer some of my homemade apple cider in exchange for the fruit. I only need one slice anyways, that should do it! I brought two big flasks for Lennon n' me that Nessa's holding onto right now but I'll gladly sacrifice some of it to help y'all out."

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 3
Username: Knickknacks
Buttermilk: Logan
Prompt:
Logan had never been... particularly strong in the persuasion camp. The suggestion that she try to talk the farmer into lending her some produce was one that left her feeling somewhat out of her element. But still! It's for a good cause- the capture of the wayward duck, out of concern for both his safety and the general orderliness of the market! Logan gave a small, sad shake of her head, thinking of all the delicious fruits and veggies the duck had destroyed. What a tragic waste.

The persuading of the farmer to part with some produce? Was actually a pleasant surprise- he agreed readily, grimly stating that 'someone needed to catch that feathered menace before he comes for the rest of the booths!' Logan was left with her pick from a lush crate of delicious-looking produce. The temptation to grab a snack was strong, but Logan decided to focus on the task at hand. Remembering the sorts of produce the duck had seemed to target in his 'raid' the night before, she selected a few shiny apples, a few tomatoes, a vine of plump red grapes and some crisp leaves of red lettuce.

Why had the duck decided to target only the red produce? The world may never know.

Logan decided to try and stake out the duck- setting the produce, seemingly unattended, in an overflowing crate beside one of the stalls on the edge of the main bustle of the farmer's market. She then stationed herself a booth or so over, hiding in an empty tent with a clear line of sight to the crate. Now all she had to do was wait for the duck to take the bait.

(And hope that she didn't crack and take it herself first- she was still awfully hungry...)
