The rivers have dried, and the ground has crumbled beneath our paws. The flying bird never soars above our ears.
Our tribe has fallen.
There was yelling, screaming, sobbing, and then silence. "The chief is dead!" I ran out of my den. My mother lay by my father's silent body. My younger brother stared at the corpse, his eyes sharp, and gaze wavering. I couldn't stare at my father, my head burrowed into my mom's fur. "It's going to be ok Little Fish, it is time for you to step up as the next in line for chief." My mother, The Grass That Dances, bowed her head to me as I stepped forward. My younger brother stepped out from the side and tackled me to the ground.
He stood proudly. "I am the rightful ruler, you shall all follow MY orders and not the ones of the pitied fools." My mother stared up fearfully at the beast that has become my brother. "Swimming Minnow, it is Little Fish's throne..." He scratched my mother across her face and smiled stepping up to the sun rock. "It is time, for a new age." He glared at me, I knew I wasn't as strong as him. "You see,
the reason why the Chief died...was because of her!" He continued to meet my gaze. "He never recovered from the injuries, when he tried to save you." Swimming Minnow's eyes slit. "You were the reason for the attack, you couldn't stay in our territory....you brought the other tribe to us on purpose!" My blood became cold, it was only a few days ago...my father couldn't heal. "Tell me it isn't true."My mother stared at me with pleading eyes. "It happened but it wasn't on purpose, I didn't mean to!" My brother stare hardened "I am Swimming Minnow, and I believe that Little Fish just confessed to the murder of your chief!" He stepped down and stared me in the eye. "Run Little Fish...never return...never come back, and never look back." I stood there for a second. The sad eyes of my mother bore into my heart. I ran the wind swept me with it, I stayed in touch with my breathing for only a second, but I was starting to lose my breath. I stopped, there were rocks around me, only a minimum amount of vegetation was growing in this area. I fell to the ground. My body was shutting down. One day I knew I had to return home, and save my home from my brother, the Swimming Minnow.
